  1. Window shopped for a new truck today. MSRP of $57,600 for a 15 leftover high country 4x4 w/ the 6.2 litre. About $55k out the door. I realized today how much I really like my SS... and the fact it's paid off :)

Could you imagine the msrp if they were to bring the SS Silverado back? 13 years ago the msrp of my truck was $42k... Factor how truck prices have soared since then. I bet the SS would be in the 60's if a high country is almost 58.

I looked at a 2500HD duramax, just for the heck of it. $65k!

      Truck prices have gone crazy!

  3. That moment when your 2wd sport truck is completely useless in the snow....sighhhh

  4. What are you all doing for rear view camera mounting?

If I'm gonna get involved in painting, the whole truck is gonna get strayed. The beautiful Florida sun has taken its toll on it.

I have been looking art those but then I'd have to have it painted to match.

  6. replaced brakes all the way around. im talking calipers brackets, rotors, pads, and connecting lines, bled, bled, and bled some more. still soft soi replaced the booster, still soft, the truck stops but not like it should, what am i not doing right?

You gotta take it to the dealer and have them hook it up to ther Tech II tool and power bleed the system. It activates the ABS pump and forces out all the air. Been here, did that.

  7. Here's a first, went to a used car dealer today and looked at a 10 year old Wrangler Rubicon (super low miles though). Their asking price was 5k above book value. I made then an offer (above book value). Nope. They wouldn't even negotiate a dollar off the price... wow!

Here's the funny thing. In 2005, the Jeep was $25k, brand new from the dealer with zero miles and full manufactures warranty. They are trying to sell the same Jeep, 10 years old, 20k miles in good (not excellent!) condition with no warranty for $25k! Crazy!!!!

  8. Yay! I get to spend $1,800 on steering/suspension parts on my HD. The issues are most likely caused by my Torsion Lift. Wonderfull

I'm not far behind. 2k into the truck last month and I'm looking at doing the front end very soon.

  9. Yet another puddle of coolant under the truck. It has been pressure tested 3 times and holds 20lbs. However, leaks a puddle when it sits over night after being driven.

problem is when it was puking (large quantities) of that wonderful coolant/trans fluid mixture, it leaked all over everywhere under the truck so everything is wet. I de-greased the engine yesterday (twice) so we'll see if I can pinpoint it now that it's all clean. I'll probably just do the water pump anyway... 12yrs old and 101k on it.

Some googling suggests possibly the waterpump and/or thermostat... why not?

  11. Another large puddle of coolant under the truck this morning. It has been driven once it was fixed. AWESOME!!!

  12. New radiator, hoses, flushed the cooling system, twice. Drained and refilled both difs and the transfer case. New rear shocks and rear sway bar installed. Glad it's all done now!

  16. Well, good news today. Took my truck to the trans shop, slipping the whole way there. Fluid was really low. Had the tranny serviced (new fluid/filter). There were no metal shaving or anything bad in the pan, fluid was clean also. No idea where the fluid went. The underside of the truck is bone dry but as of right now, a new tranny is not needed :)

      90zxdriver

I bought the truck at 60k and the first thing I did was take it to dealer and had any/all fluids drained/flushed/refilled. That was 40k miles ago.

That is what my trans guy though happened as well. He checked the transfer case it it was right at the fill hole. He said if it had been leaking, the transfer case would have been over filled (it wasn't). He didn't have a good excuse either as to where the fluid went.

I don't know a whole lot about transmissions, is it possible some fluid can burn off when towing my boat? It really doesn't like hauling the boat on the highway. From my limited knowledge, I don't think tranny fluid can burn off though...

I'll admit it, it's my fault. I should have checked it sooner. It was still on the dipstick, still clear red and doesn't smell burnt. I agree, it had to go somewhere but it has never left a spot under the truck and crawling under it, I don't see anything wet. Other than a small amount of oil around the oil filter housing (leaking oil cooler).

  20. Just rolled 100K miles and at the same time, the low fuel light comes on. That's about right.

    1. 90zxdriver

      90zxdriver

Just for fun, 100,000 miles with an average 11 mpg = 8,333 gallons of fuel used this far. 8,333 gallons of fuel at an average of $3.00 for premium = $25,000 in fuel.

  21. Thinking about putting the SS up for sale... again

    1. 90zxdriver

      90zxdriver

Probably. I need to figure out the situation with my boat first. The Rubicon I want to replace the SS with can't tow my boat.

I had the CoverKing custom neoprene ones. I ended up selling them because they wouldn't stay in place on the factory leather seats. They supposedly work very well on cloth seats. They did fit well, just wouldn't stay in place.

I find it funny that little V6's put out more power (on paper) than my 6.0 SS. But, there is no replacement for cubic displacement.

    1. 90zxdriver

      90zxdriver

Keep it and just add the C6 to the fleet. That is my plan except with a C5...

If I move back to the northeast, the SS will be garaged. I'll find a throw down here in Florida (no rust!) before I go back for the winter months.
