  1. I think it was Thursday morning? Headed North on the West Beltway.. saw a really clean '03 SS, looked mostly stock other than a bed lid and ventshades. Yeah if you're in here that was me next to you in the black Intimidator SS covered in daily driver filth and sounding like a dump truck since my passenger side cat finally cratered. We were a mini-SS convoy for several miles in that rotten traffic until I broke for I-10. Then later that night West end of downtown - Brazos street maybe? around the clubs - saw another black SS, I had the light so I didn't get a chance to gauge what year, but from a glance it looked like a nice truck, too! I almost never see two SS's at the same time except at home. ? Richard
  2. Any GMT800 truck with RPO DL3 would be a donor but IIRC those are only on the high-end trim level trucks (check high end Tahoes/Suburbans/etc.) Power adjust, power fold, heated, signal, puddle light, auto-dim (driver's side - also called "light sensitive")... They're damn expensive new from the dealer, over $500/ea if you can find 'em. Richard
  3. Cloth seats yes; if you decode the VIN it's probably detailed in one of the RPO codes. I don't know about lack of console but that's probably an RPO that's missing from the regular expected SS list - also means it won't have a Bose stereo as there's no place for the amp/subwoofer setup. Some of the last couple year SS's were available somewhat stripped of options. There's pics of a few SS's with the cloth seat setup here on the forum; if you search 'em out you'll probably get your answer on the console too. Richard
  4. That CL ad is for an 8 lug rear tho.. so he's gonna need appropriate axles and rotors, too. And with 170K miles out of a 2500HD it may have been worked hard.. I'd rebuild it completely while apart. $$$ definitely 14 bolt is a solid upgrade, though Richard
  5. I know it's a long shot but anybody have a good used passenger side cat that will fit a 2006 SS? Want to deal locally around Houston TX since shipping would likely destroy a used one as they'd just toss it around. Hoping for a simple bolt-on swap for my rattling one instead of paying the muffler shop to chop and weld a new one, although that's probably what I'm gonna have to end up doing. Figured I'd look for a good used one first. EDIT - apparently this part # is same across several applications, including all the 6.0 Silverados from 2006 back to 2001, and the 8.1 trucks too - who knew? (assuming the dealer's app info is correct) Thanks! Richard
  6. Wow, I think we both overlooked that, sorry! I'd say don't sweat the trans then. Richard
  7. 4L80E swap, once you start making any real power, you're just throwing money away trying to build up a 4L6x. This has been proven time and time again by people spending thousands and thousands on "built" 4L6x transmissions. Richard
  8. No bluetooth instead? I hate cords.. Anyway I've seen some USB sockets that replace the lighter, barrel style with a nut on the back so they "bolt in" like the original lighter socket they're replacing. You connect power to them and charge your devices. I would bet there's the same style product out there that is simply a USB extension you can hook the head unit to, just might take some creative search terms to weed out the ones that are simply power outlets. Richard
  9. The DRL bulbs burn out a lot quicker than most since they burn hot. Have you checked the bulbs first? Replacement # is a 4114 for the correct ones. I threw some $10 LED replacements in there and they held up reasonably well for about 8 months but one of them finally cratered when one of the contact legs broke loose from its solder joint, which can happen when they solder those stiff wires directly to the circuit boards inside the assembly, they get stressed when you shove 'em in the socket. New headlights are a crapshoot. Normally I'd say go with real GM but they're made in China now and the quality sucks, especially for the higher price. They haze/yellow (and even peel) quickly, and in 2-3 years they'll look like ass with a bunch of tiny cracks you can't sand/polish out. TYC is usually known for making decent quality aftermarket lenses; you can search the net for who has the best price on 'em. Richard
  10. Yep that's right off the rack at the auto parts store in the bling section. Silverado SS is limited edition already of course, but they didn't come with a badge like that. Richard
  11. Every once in a while I've seen an auction for the OEM seat leather, but I don't know how commonly available it is. You might check out leatherseats.com and see what they can do for you. I can't remember if it was here on SS forums or another truck-related forum (maybe PT.net?) that someone said their stuff was nice. Richard
  12. You'd think one of the wheel repair shops would know. I really don't personally know so I didn't want to jump to comment...but it seems to my un-educated self that the center being a different finish is probably a step done before they weld the center to the hoop. :/ Richard
  13. Wonder what happened to Edgar? Anyway, surely if someone wanted to forge an Intimidator, they could make a fake SPID label. I mean hell it's just a sticker. However, it would have to match the VIN on the dash tag (which is why I mentioned it) - and if you run the VIN through Compnine or have a friendly dealer run it, the RPO codes that come back from that report are straight from GM's build database. Richard
  14. On the service parts ID (SPID) label in the glovebox along with all the other option codes. That is, IF it's an Intimidator, otherwise no SSI code.. Richard
  15. Hola Edgar, Check the sticker in the glovebox for RPO code SSI. This code is the Intimidator package. Also compare the VIN on the sticker to be sure it matches the VIN on the tag riveted to the dash area. If it has SSI it's an Intimidator, just might be missing the door and tailgate scripts if it has been repainted. Does it have the DEI logo headrests or the regular SS? Also gauge should have Dale Earnhardt signature image, and tailgate cap is a 3 piece wing. Richard
  16. I did that to get a no-key handle on the driver side...the rear mounting stud is not in the same place. Had to get my body man to cut the tab off the door and relocate it. . Richard
  17. What exact fluid went in? Was it marked for posi-trac units? Was posi additive used? If so...that's the wrong stuff, and can cause incorrect lockup of the factory locker. Eaton Gov-Loc (RPO code G80) uses just plain gear oil, no posi additive. EDIT - lol my bad, I thought your post sounded familiar. You had just posted about similar issues previously. Richard
  18. Some jackass tried to break into my truck last night and screwed up the front passenger door handle. Busted the grab handle part and gouged the bezel so I need the whole thing. Black bezel with chrome grab handle. GM original part only please, don't wanna buy aftermarket. Also gotta be from the front door; rear is different.. GM part # is 15182419, pretty sure it has to be 2004-2006 because earlier ones may have the keyhole on the passenger door. Need the no-keyhole style. Thanks! Richard
  19. Welcome, I was vacationing in your home town.. oh.. 34 years ago. Loved it. I'm sure it's changed a bit. Stayed at the Hotel Sol Mar which I believe no longer exists; it was on the beach at the Pacific side of Land's End. Friend of mine went there many years later and it looks like they knocked it down and built some huge hotel complex in its place. Richard
  20. The emblems for the exterior? You won't want them used; they're too fragile and are likely to break pulling them off a truck. In fact when I had mine painted I replaced them anyway because they were showing signs of sun damage. You can get the Intimidator scripts brand new if you hunt hard enough. The door scripts are easier to find; it's the tailgate script that is a little bit narrower so that it doesn't crowd out the SS emblem. The non-original copies of the scripts that are all over ebay etc. are just vinyl puffy stickers and are not correct to originals whatsoever so please skip those. I got the tailgate script from online Chevy dealer IAMGMPARTS if I recall; will edit back with the part #'s when I dig through my file in a little bit. Of course the SS emblems are the same exact ones used on the regular SS truck. The dash insert...you gonna have to get it from someone willing to part with one. I know there's probably someone here that has one though. EDIT - part #'s Intimidator scripts for doors - 88980874 - best price I found 3 years back was $153/ea Intimidator script for tailgate - 88980875 - same deal 3 years ago best price I found was $157 - this is the smaller one correct for the tailgate. SS emblems - same for doors and tailgate - 15178666 - around $80/ea If you're restoring though you're laying out good money for paint and bodywork, may as well only go with brand new emblems. When you compare 'em to the old ones you won't regret it. Yes it's over $700 for 6 emblems total, which in reality, is only about 10% of what high quality paint/body is gonna cost. Richard
  21. Someone may have changed the gear oil as regular maintenance. If so, and they put "posi" additive in it, that could be the cause. The Gov-Loc specifically does not require "posi" additive as it is not a posi unit. This is a highly-debated topic in some areas so if needed I can look up the TSB from GM that explains it; there's literally no argument. GM specifically states that use of those additives in the Gov-Loc can cause improper operation of the locker. It takes regular gear oil, and in your SS's case that would be 75W-90 synthetic. I'd start there - replace whatever is in it with the proper lube so you know that is correct; this will also give you a chance to look inside and get an overall feel of the condition of the differential. Check the amount of crud attached to the magnet, sitting in the case, and feel the edges of your gears, etc. Richard
  22. I say, own nothing but toys. I've got a 300 SRT8 in the garage and two SS's in the driveway. You can't have too much fun. Whereabouts in middle TN? I've got family a little East of Memphis, little bro is an LS-nut. Richard
  23. #3 sounds like the deal of the bunch. The mods will cost you some money but at least if you do them yourself you know they were done right, no corners cut, no mistakes made. It's half the miles of #1 so IMO that more than makes up for the cost of any mods you'll do. Also, if it's hours South of TN it's probably a rust-free truck unless it came from somewhere else. Or, if it's in coastal FL area - check it REALLY close for any rust, particularly the fuel and brake lines!!! If you see any rust either pass on it 100% or get a substantial discount. The one thing that detracts from it is the smoking - I hate smoked-in vehicles, but if it's not majorly stinky then you can get rid of the smell fairly easily. Used car dealers do this all the time. Rent an ozone generator machine. Richard
  24. What the hell!! That's crazy, man I am sorry to hear it. I sort of get what the cops are saying but then again is the gps signal not evidence?? Richard
