  1. Anybody built a 402 or 408 stroker and had it pass California Emissions test? I am wondering if the testing can detect the increased cubic inches to the point you would flunk.
  2. I would want to be the guy in the far lane. He just lifted one tire, and he won
  3. Been three days without wheels, 3 or 4 more to go You would think I would not miss it so much when I work from home
  4. Interesting, I had the exact same failure on my 03 SS, except I did not get much warning and I made it up to 78,898 miles. I have a Radix and tow our travel trailer occasionally.
  5. There is a local shop, Orange County Transmission (www.octrans.net), that will be fixing it. They have a great reputation with the local hot rodding folks, for building upgraded transmissions. He just built an upgraded 700r4 for my 64 Impala. He just did another supercharged Silverado SS from a guy named Greg (not sure if he hangs out here). It won't be cheap, but it should be bullet proof. I think I will go for a slightly higher stall speed on the converter. Any suggestions on what treatments I should be looking for? I am guessing they will have it covered, but don't want to miss any good upgrades.
  6. For everyone who has wondered how long the stock transmission lasts with a Radix, the answer is: 78,898 miles -2500 (when I had the Radix installed) __________ 76,398 Miles Driving down the freeway today, went to pass a car and my get up and go, got up and went. Limped back home on surface streets with only 1st and 2nd gears willing to engage. Time for upgrades
  7. I was wondering why the strap didn't snap.
  8. That warranty is only good if they can't blame the problem on any engine mods you have. (been there, lost that battle and GM wanted $1400 to replace them ). I bought some used cats from a member here who was getting rid of his cats. Also Random Technology makes a good high flow cat. In any event, get it taken care of soon, if they are plugging up, it can damage your engine.
  9. The IBDII computer check is only as good as it's inputs. Those can be tampered with rather easily in some cases, like O2 Sims for people who remove their cats.
  10. I suppose they could tax the fees, Then charge a fee for calculating the taxes...
  11. My first car was a 64 Impala with bench seats. If you want to go around a corner 'somewhat fast' and still be behind the wheel when you are done, you wear the seat belt That got me in the habit early on.
  12. They hate cleaning up the mess when you don't wear a belt and get in an bad accident Also, this is California, where Big Government knows best.
  13. The guy at GM that designs door locks is obviously getting paid off by some car theft ring. Door security is a joke on cars these days.
  14. I have had a Optima yellow top in my 64 Impala since 2003. Granted it spends most of the time on a battery tender, rather than the daily start up routine, but 7 years, even in storage charge, is doing pretty good. I also have an Optima in the SS, but that has only been about 3 years.
  15. For those less inclined to fabricate, there is this product http://www.jimmijammer.com/Product,%20Hood%20Guard.html
  16. If it makes you feel any better, I am still impressed with that build. From a wreck to a truck again Amazing
  17. Do you mean this thread? Pics Of My 03 Ss Build
  18. Must have been a real stupid thief. XM radio requires a subscription, and each radio has a ID number. So when you report that ID as stolen to XM, the next person who tries to activate it will be in possession of stolen goods, either the thief or the person he sold it too.
  19. Nothing "gangsta" about my car. Gangsters are scum and the culture of glorifying those idiots is deplorable.
  20. I renamed it to "Donut Derelicts Car Show Pics" to avoid confusing the officers out there I love those old trucks.
  21. Donut Derelicts is a long running (since 1982!), informal gathering of car nuts that happens early every Saturday morning. http://www.donutderelicts.com Here are a few pictures I have collected recently, enjoy:
  22. It has been running off and on the last few months. I have been nibbling away with small projects on it. At the moment it is up on jacks, almost ready to drop the old transmission out. I find it helpful to keep it running as much as possible, so I can drive it around a bit and remind myself why I am doing all this messy and expensive work
