  1. Darn, I just bought one a few months ago at Sears. Very handy when you have a tough nut to crack. Makes me wish I had one a long time ago, all those years of wrenches with pipes stuck on for leverage
  2. I don't think you would hurt anything by driving with the pump broken. Back when I had my Radix installed, the installer missed the "dummy fuse" so the pump got no power. It will hurt performance, though. I suppose in extreme situations it could make things more prone to pinging (hot weather, lots of full throttle driving). I think the computer will take care of keeping that from happening, though. Just take it a bit easy till you get it fixed and you are sure to have no worries.
  3. I was beginning to think my IP was accidentally banned again
  4. From that link "just hollow out some cats. the cops will never know" Cops can't smell? A engine without cats makes a distinctive smell, easy enough to catch when you are behind the car. We would probably call it cool, but cops are used to pulling over street racing ricers, and are no doubt wise to the hollowed out cat and the resulting smell of exhaust. <edit> Some more information on Cats in CA from the CARB website: CARB Aftermarket Catalytic Converters I think the big fines are for shops installing illegal CATs not individuals.
  5. I don't know how well all that power gets to the ground, but if it sticks, that thing would go like a rocket!

  7. Dave at OC Transmission just rebuilt my SS's transmission last month. He does great work, lots of good word of mouth out there about his shop. Dave knows his stuff for these trucks and what the good mods are. I was not the first SS he has worked on. I went for a bit higher stall speed on the torque converter, which does seem to make is a bit quicker, with a slight loss of manners when doing easy going driving. I am sure my rebuilt transmission will last a long time even with the supercharger. Back in February, I had him build a 700r4 transmission for my 64 Impala, which broke due to some engine trouble I was having (engine would not idle, and I was trying to get it home, and must have popped it into gear at too high an RPM -1,500 or so, and broke the input shaft. He stood behind it and fixed it, even though it would have been easy to say it was my fault that it broke due to abuse because of the engine issue.
  8. Ahh nothing like sitting in a memory seat and reminiscing. Heated memory seats are even better . Not sure I would want a transmission with that kind of kit installed Well, somehow he managed to figure out how to make kids... Too bad about little Ut being a T Does it come with the supercharger? Or did he mean a soupercharger?
  9. Probably not the motor that will suffer first, but the transmission.
  10. All years, fuel filters = yes. Cabin filters, 02 was the last year I sure wish they still had them, everytime I turn on my car after a big wind, I get a face full of dust
  11. You don't say where you are from, but if you are in a state with smog inspections, be sure to consider a system that will pass that inspection. My vote is for the Radix (yes I am biased ). No tinkering required, just bolt it on and enjoy. Very reliable and looks like it came from the factory with it.
  12. I kinda get burned with every purchase there
  13. Nope, that is why I took that picture back in '03. This is also where Magnacharger has you hook up for power for the intercooler pump on a Radix. No fuse, no pump. No pump, no intercooling
  14. I am still working on my 64 Impala Got my 350 (stroked to 383) engine disguised as a 327 now ;) I drilled a hole in the back of the block to get the old style PCV system working. The older blocks has a casting back there for the PCV tube.
  15. Are you talking about this fuse? Yes you would want that in place.
  16. Happened to mine about a year ago. Between the iPod and XM, I don't miss the CD much. I was able to get the CDs out after unplugging the wires on the back and then plugging it back in.
  17. The seller seems to be making too much of a connection between the Syclone and the Buick
  18. Another trick I have heard of is to add alcohol to the gas. May not be good for the rubber, but burns cleaner.
  19. I hear those roadside checks give a lot of false positives. A stroker would not be detectable by such devices anyways. Remember, the only issue would be the increased amount of exhaust gasses coming out the exhaust, the proportions of pollutants would be the same as a stock motor.
  20. Still alive and kicking. I guess I post more when I am doing or thinking about doing stuff to the truck. Have not been doing much in the way of mods in recent years, just enjoying the ride. Been spending my $$$$ on restoring my 64 Impala lately.
  21. Here is the post-mortum. The input shaft was loose where it attaches to the drum. There was a spiral crack in the part of the drum that holds the input shaft, which is how it got loose. The replacement has a steel band to help prevent this in the future. The shaft being loose seems to be what caused the 3/4 clutches to fail, as the input shaft moves out, it cuts off oil supply. At least that is as near as I can remember it. I don't know transmissions very well.
  22. I would not want to do anything shady and certainly want to keep the spirit of the law. I like to breath clean air. With so many cars in SoCal, we have to make some sacrifices to keep from asphyxiating ourselves. It is just the overbearing control exerted by CARB with regard to any upgrades, that is bothersome.. Mine passed it's first test a year ago and did well. I don't think the guy even bothered to check the CARB sticker on the supercharger. I guess that is one nice thing about the Radix, it is so well designed, it looks like original equipment.
  23. Well, I am assuming the engine looks kosher from the outside, just has the stroker crank, rods, pistons. Cats and intake would remain (or in my case, the CARB Legal Radix, although that would become a bottleneck). What I am curious about is if the increased volume of exhaust from the higher displacement would push it out of compliance with the sniffer. I am not sure how those sniffers operate. They measure in Parts Per Million, but I don’t what assumptions underlie that. If it is strictly PPM then the 402 will (in theory) be putting out the same, just more volume of exhaust. Think of it like a percentage. On the other hand, if the sniffer has assumptions about the volume of gas passing by, then it may cause the pollutant count to go up. Even then, since they have to give a bit of leeway for cars that are not in perfect condition, it might be possible for a stroker to squeak by.
