  1. I doubt it. I haven't seen too many Monte Carlos with a tailgate.
  2. I agree 125%. In my earlier days, I wanted a fireplace too. I installed one of the 'gel fuel' fireplaces. Nothing more than a glorified candle. I don't care what anyone says, they do emit an odor. Maybe not terrible to some, but gave some that visited headaches. When I sold the house, the guy's insurance company made him rip it out too. It's essentially an open flame, with no protection on it. I installed a 'vent-free' garage heater for a guy in his cabin -- this is a no-no. First of all, there's a slight odor, not horrible. But the heat it put off was so HUMID that it left frost on his windows. The new electric ones look very realistic, if you purchase a good one. I'm a believer in direct-vent, but if this is not an option, then I would look at electric.
  3. It's called Insurance Fraud.
  4. A cloud or a puff of blue smoke when you start it up isn't so serious. It's probably valves that are leaking... however, that's not such a bad thing. It just shows that they are getting lubricated. If this bothers, you can have a valve job done for minimal cost. If a little oil consumption bothers you, then stay away. GM says a quart every 1000-1500 is normal, which seems excessive to me. I've never had one that burned more than a quart every 2500-3000 miles. I currently have my work truck, an 83 1/2ton 2WD, with a 350, edelbrock carb/intake. It puffs a cloud when I start it, but that's it. I don't even burn a quart in 3k miles.
  5. I checked into getting a car brought up to Midwestern WI from South Carolina -- $575, and I don't have to go get it. They do all the hassle work.
  6. That's it... no more truck porn for you.
  7. No one else would touch his price. I'm not gonna throw $3600 in the toilet.
  8. $30,935 MSRP $4,500 Trade (01 Impala base) $20,176 with tax/title/license
  9. So, I've been looking for some time, and finally decided on a new Impala SS. Deal was exceptional, but the dealer didn't have any in stock. There are 7 other dealerships within 100 miles that have the EXACT car that I wanted to purchase. Not one dealership was willing to do a dealer trade with this small town dealer. Understanding that every dealer is an independent dealer, and they can do what they want. But as a businessman, it just doesn't make sense... If I have 7 desks in the shop, and a customer wants to purchase THAT EXACT desk, why wouldn't I want to sell it, rather than build another one? Apparently, Chevrolet doesn't have much control over the dealerships... or this is why I'll never understand Big Corporate America. Anyway, I just ordered a new SS, and it's supposed to be here within 6 to 8 weeks. I guess, at least it won't have but a few miles on it when it does actually come in. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
  10. I loved this post! 'I had a wreck at lunch, but in a way it's good.' You must be one of these eternally optimistic guys. Can't wait to hear what you'd say if you were kicked in the nuts. 'Man, it hurt for awhile, but after that, it felt pretty good!!!' I'm just kiddin' ya. I'm one of these guys too. I don't flip out over the small stuff. It's not worth it.
  11. I've seen this before... Was it the superbowl ads?
  12. i was wondering the same thing. I called them. Some 2005 are digital already, some aren't. I thought about doing the digital upgrade, so I could add the on-star line to my existing cell phone account. If I were to upgrade to the digital, I could.
  13. I disagree with you on the caution. The wreck was BEHIND them, not in front of them. If there were more laps to go, then fine, even though I would like to have seen Mark Martin win (since JR is DNF) -- 23 years and no win at Daytona? It seems as though he gets close, but just can't quite pull it out. I do agree with the cheating remark 100%.
  14. Yes we did back in the day. What is PEX? As for copper, as you can see, there is really nothing as far as plumbing goes for the addition so I highly doubt it was expensive at all. Our whole house was already done in copper when it was remodeled back in the day. We've never had any problems with water pressure. If there isn't much to be done as far as plumbing, DO NOT go with pex. It is more prone to leaking in the future. PEX is Poly-Ethylene Cross (x) tubing. Leaves no odor, no taste, no corrosion in the lines. With PEX you can go up to 1000 feet away with no joints, except at the termination fittings. There are a few different types (Wirsbo being the most common around here), but there are several others. As for future leaks, I'd tend to disagree. Nice thing about Pex up here is if there is a line that freezes, it will expand a few times. With copper, it will break. I know far too well. (not that freezing is a concern of yours in Cali.) Pex, as others have stated, can also be installed with a manifold, so as to equalize the pressure to all lines. Copper, it could be done, but it would be extremely labor intensive. Pex is also quite a bit quieter, as the poly acts as an insulator too. Not saying that all copper homes are loud, by any means. But I have seen a few that were plumbed incorrectly, and everytime the toilet flushed, it sounded like an airplane was landing in the living room.
  15. real time would be badass but i think that might make some people upset to know that they could be watched. It's more the WHO's watching you... or your family. Think about it... If you go to work and your home is vacant, what's to stop someone from breaking in. Maybe city not so much worry, but what about folks livin' in the sticks? Worse yet: you leave for work, and your kids are home alone. I don't think we'll see an up to the minute map for awhile. At least, I sure hope we don't.
  16. its his step mother not mother in law. He wants 51% of DEI to sign with DEI again Can you blame him? What would DEI be with out DE? I think RCR owns #3 yet, so, if anything, he'd probably go there, if step-mom doesnt see fit. Budweiser has already stated that wherever JR is, Bud will be too. She'll come to her senses, though.
  17. Ah, that's just a scratch. It'll buff out Some people should just be kicked in the head. Sorry to hear about your luck.
  18. Too late to bitch about what this country is coming to - we already lost Chrysler. Mr. P. No doubt. I wonder how many parts of our trucks are built someplace other than here??? It seems like whenever I look at something, it's made in mexico, or taiwanese.
  19. Wind Chills??? Monday, I didn't go to work (gonna be outside siding) because it was -27 degrees. Wind Chill with 15 - 20 mph winds were putting us -50.
  20. 03 AWD bought new in april of 05. Never sold, people around here aren't willing to spend 42k for a new truck, and not be able to pull a fifth wheel with it. I came in and offered $31,500, and then with rebates ($1,000 truckfest, $500 first time buyer, $500 24 hour test drive) , and my '83 chev is gonna blow up because of side-saddle gas tank' rebate ($1,000), I went out the door for 28,500.
  21. get cable and it won't be slow............................ I'd love to see cable that goes 11 miles out of a town of 2000 people. I'll live with the slow speed if it means I don't have neighbors within 1/2 mile or better from me. I hate people. damn. my neighbors are like 25-30 feet away. You would probably hate living in the NY Metro area. My nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile down the road... and that's my mom and dad. I bought a chunk of land from them, and built out in the sticks. Would I do it again? Absolutely. I bought a house in town, fixed it up and sold it -- and was glad to. I'm not really a fan of shutting all the blinds/curtains in the house when evening falls. Conveniences, yeah... the grocery store is a block away, etc. But my sanity is worth more than that. When in town, everyone's your friend... especially when they need something. I'm a builder, so naturally on the weekends, I am always looking for someone to come and tell me they're thinking of remodeling their bathroom, and want to know if I wanna help in the evenings and weekends for nothing. Ummm.... no thanks.
  22. Don't forget the Scottsdale trim level between the Cheyenne and the Silverado. My 83 Scottsdale has EVERYTHING the Silverado had except carpet and headliner. (Power windows, locks, air, cruise, tilt, power brakes, steering, cloth seat) From lowest to highest trim levels were Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, Cheyenne, and Silverado, I believe. Actually, it was Custom Deluxe, Cheyenne, Scottsdale, and Silverado. The Cheyenne was not much more than a Custom Deluxe.
  23. My wife and I just got back from the dealership.... looked at a new Goat. Got in for a test drive... cracked my melon (didn't say anything, didn't wanna look stupid.) Then, my wife got in, to drive it, and she hit her head too. (She's 5'5", and still hit her head.) Then, we swapped again... I did it again. I couldn't believe it. I'm an idiot. Walked away... rubbing my noggin.
