  1. After some suggestions here I started looking at K&N's website and I found a filter I thought had the proper dimensions to replace our Outlaw filter. The K&N part No. is RU-3530. After a test fit it appeared to be a perfect fit. I took the allen head screws out and removed the Outlaw filter from the mounting gasket. I then cut the center out of the mounting gasket so it would snugly fit the new filter. It turned out perfect. Only about 5% of the K&N filter sticks out of the CAI box and the modified mounting gasket supports its weight. Here's a couple of pics.

  2. you should look into AEM dryflow filters they are awsome. id never go back to an oiled filter again, i previously had K&N, and True Flo and my AEM out performs them both :chevy:

Here's the link the their site. Not as much information as I'd like though.

Taken from Jeg's website it looks like the AEM 21-2049DK will work but I'd check dimensions before ordering.

  3. If anyone has came up with anything, please let me know. Outlaw is out of business and no one no where has any filters that fit our trucks.

I found a replacement K&N filter. It's a universal filter that will require some modification. It's $50 and I get it this Saturday. When I'm done I'll post pictures and remarks.

  4. Lately I've developed a 'scraping' noise I swear is coming from the front driveline. It is the loudest when the truck is warmed up and running about 30mph. I noticed that the application of throttle influences the noise. Throttle on equals noise. Throttle off equals less noise. This is definately metal on metal contact type of noise.

Anyways, I took to a shop in my area that has a flawless reputation and they gave it a thorough check. First thing they did was take it for a test drive and wouldn't you know it. It being very cold the noise was barely there. Second, they checked front differential fluid. Clear and no metal shavings on the magnetic plug. They checked the transfer case and it looked good. They checked the rest of the driveline and could find no issues.

I can't be a wheel bearing. It's probably not a CV joint. What could it be? This is starting to bug me.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Regards,

    Dan

  5. I recently received from GM a letter regarding the 2003 Silverado saying the instrument panel needles may stick flutter or become inoperative.

GM is offering an extension to 7 years or 70,000 of the warranty covering this.

I was driving the truck Friday nite, and I noticed all my gauges weren't working. Now this could be the fauult of my battery failing or the cold weather. I replaced the battery with a red top, but was wondering if anyone else has had the instrument cluster act this way?

Included in the letter is a claim form in case work has been done to fix this issue before.

Do you have a recall number or any specific details you can quote from the letter?

    Regards,

    Dan

  7. DON'T DO IT. :nono: You can get a used one from LKQ for $1100; they also offer a rebuilt w/ warranty for $1300. I also found a couple very low mileage pullouts in a wrecking yard up north, they wanted $600 + $150 shipping for them... You want the '04+ front carriers, they are improved over the '03s. When I go home tonight I will check my notes and see if I still have contact info for those $600 pullouts... Replacing them is not hard, all you need are metric wrenches/sockets, jack, jackstands, and an evening...

Here's a link on rear differential replacement. How much of this article can be applied to the front differential?

  8. The reason you have not gotten an email response back is that Outlaw is no longer in business. I have the same question as you about a replacement filter. I have not had any luck finding one of the NeverOil filters since they are no longer made. I need to do something as I am getting MAF sensor codes and have never even re-oiled my filter. I am getting tired of it and am done with oiled filters. If you find anyting, let me know.

Strange that they are out of business and their website still functions perfectly. That threw me off.

  9. I've had my Outlaw CAI for about three years now so I think I'm due for a replacement filter. I've blown it out a few times with compressed air but I'd like the peace of mind of a brand new filter every once in a while. Suggestions on who carries replacement filter? I've emailed Outlaw themselves and haven't got a response yet.

Shortly after posting I found the replacement filter on Outlaw's site.

  11. Yes the brakes are pulsing slightly. I'm getting ready to do some braided lines and Baers. Hopefully I'll kill two birds with one stone. I was alittle concerned that I might be losing a carrier bearing or something similar.

Had the dealer check out my truck. They said driver's side, rear, inside pad is almost down to the metal. Odd for 40k?

  12. Hawk does not make a pad for 05-07 RWD SSSs with rear drums, I went through that whole dilemma myself a while back. :chevy:

What kind of annoyed me is that the Summit and Hawk's websites list the rear pads as HB324F-673. Here's a pic:

    HB324.gif

And here is a pic of the HB385:

    HB-385.gif

As you can see the dimensions are quite different. I'm glad I have my forum members or I might never get the correct part!

  13. In a recent post SS_BNOON_SS listed the following HAWK HPS brake pad numbers for our 2003 SS's. He listed the front as HWK-HB323F-724 and the rear as HWK-HB-385F-640. I went to summitracing today and plugged in 2003 SS and got HWK-HB322F-717 for the front and HWK-HB324F-673 for the rear. Does anyone know why there is a difference in the listed numbers?

  14. Sounds like brake drag to me.........you probably have a rotor that is slightly warped and is making contact with the pad ever so slightly as you drive. Do you have a slight pulse in the brake pedal at higher speeds? :chevy:

  15. Recently I've developed a new noise that sounds like it's coming from the front end. It's a very subtle scraping or light grinding noise that appears after I'm slightly warmed up. It only appears while I'm moving so it is something driveline related. At 40k of mostly city driving I was hoping that it was time for new brakes but I don't think that's it. Anyways, I will eventually take it in to get checked out but I'd like to go in with some educated guesses. Thoughts anyone?

    Regards,

    Dan
