  1. Kooks bolt up so does Arh yeah the pacesetters require some fab work and honestly if you are in your driveway and you have handtools you can do the kooks or a Dynatech in a day on your own and not even get near a welder. The pacesetters are cheap and a good value but not everyone wants to cut up the exhaust or take it to a muffler shop by the time you are done with the install or paying for it you are 3-400 away from a high quality stainless header. If you want a deal on Kooks or the best pricing let me know I will try and help ya out. But fair warning they are not 400 dollar mild steel headers they are stainless and top notch quality. Good luck!
  2. I am going to be selling the coated 1 7/8" off my truck very soon here in favor of the new Kooks setup.
  3. I would have to be certain but If I remember right last time we ordered one here at the shop it's still a gates tensioner yes.. but they put an adapter plate and use a different pulley It's original application is from a duramax.
  4. Post a picture up of your rod we might have a spare at the shop here. You do have a earlier one it is a little harder to come by.
  5. I agree with DetJoe I know from reading into the other guys who have tried the biggest issue on the engineering side is getting the turbo sizing just right so you can control the boost beyond depending on the waste gate if it comes in to soon it will overpower the blower and also make the inter cooler useless because it will outflow it. Compounding is definitely fun I love the idea but it's the engineering and the tuning that goes into it that will break the bank I would be willing to bet I could build the whole setup at 1/3 the cost of what the labor and time is going to be to get the math right and get the tuning knocked in where it's 100% dependable and predictable. Just out of curiosity . have you ever thought of just going straight turbo or going up on the blower versus the compounding?? I know that you probably have but just wondering if you have looked at the cost vs power vs ability to enjoy it.
  6. Your build.. I have my own ideas and we could go on a whole other thread on the whipple 408 idea. However.. I have swapped a couple 6.0's in place of the 5.3. The stock tune will fire right up should be the same injectors and everything from the pump to the plug wires are the same. The only differences in the setup will be the long block itself. If you are going to do a serious build like your truck down the road the first thing I would do is spend the money on HP tuners. I can even get you a harness and get you a tune to flash into your dad's truck when the time comes. But it's really pretty straight forward. I like the idea. However. I would suggest too depending on who does your short block I would not worry too much on using a used block or your current one till the time comes. When we do our engines here I have a couple 6.0's on hand so we can machine them build them and send them out without having the customer have downtime. If your lq9 is healthy and ready to go I would swap that sucker in to his truck over a weekend a couple pizza's and some pop and send your dad down the road doing burnouts and you know he's going to be happy. Feel free to PM me if you need any help I am happy to offer advice where I can
  7. That's some killer work now.. we just gotta put one of those crazy electric hub motors on that thing... hmm
  8. Also another guy for the dewalt. I have had it 6 years now it's a great thing to have on the job since it is a charger too. The only thing I always forget about is if you don't keep the 9 volt battery in it up to snuff it looses the pre programmed stations and the clock. Other than that it's actually sitting by my welder now I use it in the shop every day love it.
  9. We have done that combo time and time again. The Corsa touring is the more tame of the exhaust systems for the truck that will not drone inside the cab. However. So you understand Corsa builds their mufflers to be used with stock pipes ahead of them.. meaning you do headers they like every other muffler will get louder with the added airflow. If you really want a performance gain that's bang for your buck go to the larger tube headers like a Kooks or ARH with a 1 7/8 primary. They are a high quality stainless and you will really help out having the larger tube over the little 1 3/4 one. Don't get me wrong they have worked for a long time but you are getting into this journey of mods when there are alot of new options out there that work well. A good solid tune with a nice header and a corsa with a good intake and a T-stat will not only give you a nice performance gain but you might even see a pick up in the fuel mileage department. Do your truck in stages don't go throwing every part at it you can afford right this minute and cutting corners just so you can have the stuff. If someone tells me they want stainless headers but can't afford them. SAVE and WAIT don't buy a lesser grade product like an ebay knock off or something like that just to have headers and exhaust. You are already making a great decision with the corsa. The Dynatech cat's are really not much of a Cat so it's going to be loud moreso than you would think If you search youtube you might find some videos. The trans also sounds like you are on the right path. Again I would say go in stages don't rush it you won't enjoy it nearly as much.
  10. Pm me for a price on the 1 7/8 without cats I got ya just need a zipcode
  11. I wonder what he did with the " good stuff " that they took off... People ruin cars just roll past the local high school haha but yeah this one this one makes me wanna toss cookies.
  12. He wants headers and exhaust or he wants header back exhaust? Just depends on how much he's looking to spend but with a cam full exhaust intake and a tune you will be knocking on the 400 hp door no problem and be really happy with the outcome.
  13. Let me know 1BadNtmd8r I can get you a price shipped if you are interested in a set just let me know the size and with or without cats
  14. I can get just about any muffler you want. What I would do on yours is if you go to a bigger header run a bigger pipe possibly true duals Do you run cats now? Any muffler that uses a packing of glass mat or steel mesh wears out and finds a seat over time. I usually stick to a chamber style like a Corsa or a Dynomax VT. Chambers because they have a solid wall instead of slowing down the air as much they defect it and re direct the ambient noise. Granted they do slow down the air a little it doesn't dampen or slow the air like a baffled muffler.. there are huge differences. If you got a chance to see or hear mine you would be in love with it. It's 1 7/8 long tubes dual 3 into a single 4 and a corsa duramax catback. It only drones at 2300 when towing. The main reason mine has any drone is it's really designed for a duramax.
  15. Good looking out I can't wait till we can see these 2" headers rolling out people are going to be really happy
  16. Do you have the ability or access to build your own plumbing? I currently run 1 7/8" headers with a reverse y into a single 4" then use the duramax corsa cat back. It's ungodly loud at wide open but driving part throttle it's deep but mellow and no drone in the cab. No cats mind you. If you go with a magnaflow you will hate life later on they drone really badly in the cab at cruise speeds that's why their system that's a bolt on comes with resonators. What is done to your truck to back up the extra airflow? We are only in Vegas so might be able to help you out if you are interested in a drive out.
  17. Best bet if you are going to look used is try and find someone from a forum or someone you can directly contact as far as condition verify it etc The main issue with racing junk, ebay craigslist.. you might end up buying something that the reason they wanted to get out of it was simply the fact that they needed to repair it. I can't tell you how many people I have heard of with " used prochargers" they want a deal on getting them fixed and they got such an amazing deal so when it's time to repair it they end up paying more for the used kit than what they can get a used one for. What's your price limit? Why not just get a decent kit new that you can upgrade later if you want more power? I find more often than not you end up spending as much if not more making used shit work correctly. A used turbo can be rebuilt cheaper than a blower for sure. If you go with a used maggie or a whipple you will save a little but as Powell said you will spend money on fuel upgrades. If your cash limit is that of doing a cam and heads instead of boost or a forged bottom end stroker why not do that? There is a world of opportunity out there besides buying used blowers or turbos that spending a little bit more can get you brand new and with a warranty and support. Food for thought.
  18. Haha is this going to turn into one of those threads?? haha
  19. Krambo the plan is to make them fit the awd trucks as well as the classic 2wd and possibly roll into a NNBS truck platform as well. I actually gotta fire him off an email now
