  1. A buddy of mine bought a brand new Cobalt. He drove it for a week (200 miles) and noticed that the brakes were pulsating. He dropped it off and when he came to pick it up they told him they turned the rotors...reused the pads. What the hell? I think that car was like 17k and they're gonna turn a set of 200 mile rotors? What a sack of BS. I told him to call the 1-800 GM line and he did, they said they would "investigate" To me it's case closed...NEW ROTORS. Way to keep loyal customers Chevrolet!!! Make sure they never buy another new car from you over a $150 set of rotors. Dave
  2. It's after...On the top of the engine behind the intake manifold. Dave
  3. I'm quite sure you will break the stock rear end. It may last a while with a good diff cover with preloads for the caps and a better posi unit. For that much money a new rear end is in order....that way you could get a 4.56 to get that pig movin! Dave
  4. The spot weld on the mounting tab broke out. When my pistons went the 2nd time oil sprayed out like a lawn sprinkler. The engine bay WAS spotless. Dave
  5. Anyone have the oil dipstick tube part number for a 03 SS? Thanks Dave
  6. Well, as I have been posting, I screwed up the engine in my SS. I had previously thought that hitting the rev limiter had leaned it out. I was wrong. I messed it up again and it is not 100% verified but I think the passenger side converter is clogged/melted and was the cause of all my problems. I ruined 4 new pistons in about 15 minutes of idle and about 3 miles of driving. The engine did not see above 3000rpm. My truck is sitting down at the tunershop taken apart. Thankfully the machine shop still had my balance sheet so 4 new pistons/rings are on the way. The rings are stuck into the old pistons. A leakdown test showed >5% on the drivers side and basically 100% on the passenger side. At least the cylinders aren't hurt thank god. The tuner is gonna cut the cats off tomorrow to verify, but what else could it be? Before you say it, I don't think there's any way I could get it warrantied...too many mods etc. To think I almost hollowed them out before I put the motor in. I guess I'll be another thou into it before I'm done. The worst part is typically there's no way any one but me would be wrenching on the truck plus I HATE to pay for labor. I hope to have it back by the end of the week but I'm not gonna rush things. Dave
  7. That dosen't sound like a dumb idea at all. I remember 2 at the rear of the engine and one extra down where the battery ground is. I know those grounds(or lack of) can F up how it runs Dave
  8. Yeah...JE pistons 9.5 to 1, eagle rods with 7/16 arp cap screws, arp main studs, arp head bolts, Morell lifters, Executive cam, dbl roller timing set, new oil pump, ti retainers with 10 degree locks, 650 lift springs. I had to have the block decked...machine shop said one side was .012 higher than the other. Also everything is balanced and has hardened bearings. Dave
  9. I cracked a piston and collapsed the tops of 2 others. The top compression rings wouldn't move, they were stuck in the ring lands. It is a new motor going in, or actually the same one only completely rebuilt. I got the engine in yesterday and got it running....serious issues. It started out running ok. It got progressively worse as it would barely idle, wouldn't rev. I tried to drive it to the tuner shop and I didn't make it. I called him at 8:30pm and he came with a trailer and my truck barely pulled itself onto the trailer. He thought it was a serious vacuum leak but I don't know. I am beside myself...I have a 700 mile trip planned for next weekend. Guess I'll be driving the GTP. The saga continues.... Dave
  10. Find out his personal info, get a credit card in his name and spend 5k on it? Man this whole think sucks out loud. I hope he gets ran over by a bus. Dave

    I'm guessing.... your truck?
  12. To answer a couple of previous questions...I have Morel lifters and I am running a Trailblazer torque converter. My trans has 60K on it so before somebody says it, I know I need a better converter and that will come WHEN I break the trans. The engine is back in. I gave up on it at 12:30 (15 min ago) to get some sleep and get a early start in the morning. I got to work on the install for 4 hrs tonight by myself and all that's left is the headers, PS pump, fan, belts/hoses. Hope to get my street tune tomorrow. Later Dave
  13. I wanted to do some head work, but budget constraints limited me. I didn't wanna stick a ton of money into stock heads. Maybe a set of AFR's or something in the future. Dave mentioned that it is a pretty good N/A cam as well. He uses that in Corvettes a lot and the idle isn't too bad. I'm gonna pick it up tonight and hope to have it running tomorrow. Dave
  14. Of the tuner? Dave's total Performance . I forget that around here you don't get flamed on when you mention someone besides a certain "N" person. I have the Patriot .650 springs 10 degree locks and Ti retainers. I know I'm a little close to being maxed for those springs. I guess the proof will be in how well it does or dosen't run. Dave
  15. Yeah...we're gonna do a street tune to hold me off a week until his dyno day. I'm gonna do a dyno tune minus the front shaft. He is a very experienced tuner/builder/racer and some serious cars roll out of his shop. I can't wait
  16. I finally got my cam card from the engine builder. It is a little bigger than I thought and I don't recall anyone around here running a cam this big. It is .640int .640exh 115 lobe sep and is 227 duration at .050 . There is no valve overlap so I was told it shouldn't bleed boost. I hope it turns out good because I am taking an experienced builder/tuner's advice on it. BTW it is a custom grind he dubbed "the executive". We'll see I should have the engine back tomorrow and if the rain holds it'll be running tomorrow night or early Saturday. Later Dave
  17. I think you should trade me that roll pan for my arrival blue rear bumper...BTW nice truck. Dave
  18. I weigh 260...am I too fat to be doing this? At least I'm 6'6 though. Dave
  19. I'm out...going to Misery(Missouri) for the 4th weekend. How'z about the 3rd...maybe some people will have a 4 day weekend. Just a thought because I could stop in on my way home!! Dave
  20. I figured I'd ask if anyone has drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the outside ring of the thermostat. I have done this on all of my "hot rods" to allow air to bleed out of the cooling system. This keeps you from having to burp the cooling system. I just wondered if anyone has done this to keep from having to bleed the cooling system. Thanks Dave
  21. How long of a pause are we talking here? Have you checked the fluid level? Possibly your shift cable is out of adjustment. Just a couple of ideas. BTW welcome to the site. Dave
  22. Ahhh I see now. I didn't realize Zippy's event is the next weekend. Unfortunately we're about out of time. The Zippy event is only like a month away. I will try and make it to the Indy gathering if I can where ever it is. Dave
  23. SUPER CHEVY INDY....SUPER CHEVY INDY I know I sound like a broken record. We could make a weekend of it. Friday and Saturday to encompass people who can't do it on a weekend day. IF I ever get my short block back, and back into the truck. Just my 2 cents...and me trying to kill two birds with one stone. I'll be staying at the Speedway Motel 6 at the Crawfordsville exit of I-74( exit 17A I think). Later Dave
  24. Tow rating is like 7500lbs on the factory 20's.
