  1. I run the SCT BA2800 in my mustang. I have yet to peg it, and i run a S/C with a Big-Shot 200 shot. the gentleman talking about sample tubes, I would "think" he is talking about C&L Maf's. If that is correct stay the hell away from them. I pissed away more garage nights trying to tune with those than i care to remember. everytime you clock it a different way, or the vibration rotates it, it messes up the tune. in the end the SCT BigAir is a 90mm MAF that takes a lot to peg, and hinders air inlet very little. not worth the hassel of doing a dual setup, when the SCT will do the job just fine.
  2. well I think they actually use different size wood for different locations on the box. what i mean is the sides are most definatly 3/4" as you can tell from the outter lip that juts out. however where you screw down the sub it looks as if that is 1/2" I never whipped out a tape measure, but that was my basic visual analysis. whatever it is (actual Vs. Nominal) the box performes well for the money. I was hell-bent about not raising the rear seat, so that right there limits my options. it is a good well-built box that comes fully assembled, right to your door. and I run 2 Kicker square s12L7's and they seem to be able to cope with the limited air volume. at least good enough for me, that is....
  3. use the search button and type in "box" or "subthump" or look at the sticky that has everybodys system located. there are quite a few different choices, as you will discover. I run the ultra deep box with 2 kicker s12L7's and i am happy with it. i push 1,400 into each of them and broke my rear view mirror off. the fit on these boxes is fantastic and the simplisity of having a pre-fab box was great! however it is not the best box in the world. a custom box from a stereo shop would be best. the subthump box is made from 1/2" mdf and not 3/4~1". it doesn't have the most air space and multiple other defects. if time/money is no object, you can always get better., but for the price and easyness of it, priceless!
  4. I use to live at that location myself, talk about a small damn world. Stone Canyon townhomes. I like that place, and was sad to move back to minnesota. I worked for PBS&J off corporate circle & greenvalley pkwy. I was too poor to have a thumpin' stereo...so i can't help on where to go.
  5. thankfully the amps have a remote gain. personally i can only take a few seconds at full volume. imho, i am very pleased with the subthump box. cost about 270 bucks and fit like a glove the first time. but like i said everything can be imporved and there will always be another kid down the block with a better sandbox. but for me i think a picture is worth a thousand words. and the pic says it can get lound if you want it to! my ears don't have sq level meters but i "think" they sound just fine, which is what matters to me. oh, yeah i cruz all around MN. Live in St. Michael and have teamed up with a custom shop. http://www.neversatisfiedcustoms.com/ i'm just about done with a ram-air set up for the SSS using the stock box. i know it has been done before but i want to take it to the next level. i think i have enough surface area to actually see some pressure gains past 0mmhg. i'm using semi exhaust stacks cut and spliced in half. if your in the MN area you should come over and look at the shop and hang out for a while. were always grillin' drinkin' and telling lies. good times...
  6. So, one day i have the system cranked a tad bit and..... subthump ultra deep with 2 kicker S12L7's and i would have to say there is enough air space to make some serious bass. everything can be improved, but i'm just sayin' the ultra deep box works just fine without having to raise the seat. Stealth FTW!!!!!!!!
  7. I have 2 S12L7's in an UltraDeep Subthump box. powered by 2 Soundstream Picasso 1400.1D amps. sounds ridiculous in my truck. you can look up my system in the 'What do you have' at the top of Radio and Sound section. the best thing is no one could ever tell i have a system if they peeped in the windows. that is unless i turn up the remote gain... but yeah, where do you stop spending? people talk about air-space, Xmax interferance etc. my system is lound and I have had no problems with anything breaking or sounding bad. P.s. big differance between the L7's and L5's
  8. I used 1/8" MDF from home depot. they also had automotive carpet and some super sticky aerosal glue...strong stuff. here is a pic. I kept the factory sound/insulation. I did not have the $ching$ for the good stuff. in a few days i'll put the good stuff in there
  9. i just relized i dont have any good pics of my truck....
  10. I guess i am using a capasitor as well. dunno, that may make a bit of difference. it is just a 1 fared left over from years ago. I know they make new ones that are like 80+fareds for cheap.
  11. well mine came the way i installed it. at that zero or 12O'clock mark. I figured i would tune my system first and then if it did not sound the way i liked i would mess around with that. my stereo sounded fine and i never took out the head unit again. but yeah, mine came from their factory at neutral/zero/12 what have you.
  12. yeah, i have had dead battery because of the cooling fans on my amps, i now have a similuar valet switch in my rig. On the PAC the level gains are directly on the face of the unit. +/- designation for gains. mine are set to the 12 O'clock or Zero mark.
  13. never mind...i clicked on the pic and saw it was your "valet switch"!
  14. what is the picture of in the center councel? you did run the PAC interface directly off of the head unit CORRECT?? otherwise this is where you are loosing the Boom feel. Oh, BTW....DAmn nice box ain't it!
  15. how can that plus shakles only equal 3"? when the shackles alone equal 2"!
  16. do a search and you will see my S12L7's under my seat with NO spacers. ? do they hit....crazy funk wack style hit  i push each with 1,400W each. [Disclamer] I'm no audio pro/expert [/end disclamer]
  17. Well if my calibrated eyes are working for me today, your truck looks exactally like mine in the back and i only have shackles. NO rear axel flip kit, NONE. the only way i can see someone using a rear axel flip kit and shackles is if you flip your leafs under the axel and then use shackle LIFTS. but then you would be lowering it then lifting it. way to much work than what needs to be. With a axel over leafs PLUS shackles you would need to C-Notch your frame. Did you do the work or did you pay someone to do it and this is what they told you??
  18. Steeda makes a mustang one that i use. if you are able to make a home-made one you will be able to configure that one.
  19. have you been drinking? shackles and a leaf under flip = 3" t3h dang leaf flip should be good for almost 1/2 FOOT of drop NOT including the shackles!!!
  20. You mean a "Leaf Under" it would lower it but I would think it would be more than 2". you would have to add the height of all leafs, plus the axel. I have done it on S-10's Over/Under but the perches required welding and a big PITA! shackles for the win....
  21. BellTech 2/2!!!! Trying to get that next INCH just seems like a pain-in-the-ass! I did 2" drop steering knuckles(belltech) 2" drop shackles(belltech) easy install, no pinion angle problems, great new look! A 2/2 is an easy install with no drivabliity problems. That next inch drastically looks GREAT, but dang-oh-dango it comes with added burden IMO. Quick+Easy+No Problems = Belltech 2/2 I jsut went to Napa and got some Monroe REFLEX shocks. cheap and they have a bit of "sport" feel to them. you can spend more money on better ones if that floats your boat. YES, stock shocks will suffice OK. (my truck has 130k on it)
  22. YES!!!!!! Factory head unit PAC interface a couple of amps I know exactally what you mean!!!! my F'in car was stalled a few times because of the dang-blasted security thing-a-bob! my amps have internal fans that will turn on if the internal thermometer says they are hot. so when my car sits out side the fans will turn on attempting to cool the amps, draining the battery. it did not take me long to understand what was happening, just a few weeks to get around to installling the "Valet Switch" (that is what i call it). I just did a simple toggel switch off the remote wire. tucked it under the dash. bango-bango, 2 minutes later, no dead batt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also installed a DC circuit breaker 10" off the power lead from the battery. I turn that off every so often as well.
  23. Humm... all interisting points! I'm not complaining about my stereo; rather it is everything i ever wanted. I was just wondering how Soundstream gets off saying the amps have a manufacturers advertised rating of 1,400W each. I call B.S. but who am i and what can i do. I did upgrade the gound wire. i also added a bunch more ground wires! I have owned about a dozen or more 4.3L S-10's and i was always having small problems that i beat my head against, usually most would be due to a simple ground. some aspect of GM, that i never understood. 2-soundstream amps 2 Kicker solos s12L7's factory bose after that! I love the setup, i just have no concrete proof of how much watts i am pushing. but i can only tell you...I know it's more than enough! ^ for a daily driver i am sure it is not @ 150db. but i was not going for that goal either!
  24. So i have 2 Sound Stream Picasso 1400.1D mono block amps rated at 12V. They are rated at 1400w RMS. They cost some heavy coin, and have a good name in the stereo market. Are they the best there is NO, so please don't tell me that there are other manufactures that are better. BUT, none-the-less they are at the minimum somewhat legit... I have 1-60A circuit breaker 10" off my stock battery that is charged by my stock alternator. the amps are supplied by 2ga fine multi strand welders wire. at the most I assume i have 60A with 12V. so the highest wattage i should see is 60*12=720 and that is 25% of advertised manufacture power rating. screw 14.4 it will still take a lightning strike to get it any where close to Manf advertised ratings. 60*V=2800 V=46.667 my honest question here is what is going on here? yes i know about the 3db rule and double power. but if i were to go out and get MORE amps or bigger amps it would get louder. step-up transformer is not the correct answer. ~Meegs
