  1. Thanks for the compliant Mr.P., All I'm trying to do is put out some numbers the quad cab is doing in the hands of a novice. I read about modded quad cabs running in the 12's, so I know they can be made to run fast. I'm trying to show that If CenwaSS is running low 14's, then he does have a chance to beat a stock quad cab with an inexperienced driver. It's all good!
  2. I hear you, as they did that to me as well. I ordered the memorial plate to honor my dearly deceased father who went by the nickname Matooch, but that was already taken so I settled on MAT2CH and when I went to the DMV to pick it up, it was off to the left. I told them when I ordered the plate they could only put six letters on it and it was centered and I wasn't going to take it. The lady rewrote the plate request with a 1/2 space margin on both sides of the plate and sent them back. A month later I went back and they got it right. See below.
  3. I was just on the SRT-10 forum and there is an owner that posted the mods listed below on his truck truck and still can only get a 13.95 in the quarter. [email protected] want more 2006 quad cab, bassani headers, jmb catless mids, borla catback, jmb cai,stage2 flash. What the h3ll do i need to go faster.Time at the track, how's the best to launch the more rpm's the slower my times more tire spin going back to the track tuesday night.thanks for the advice.
  4. I also have an automatic and if I stab the gas pedal off the line I can make my tires go up in smoke. If I just give it gas off the line it wouldn't smoke the tires but it will launch slower than if I gently power-brake it to around 1,200 rpm's without spinning the tires and then quickly floor it but not stab it. So even thought I have an automatic I can make my truck react three different ways off the line, and only one of them works the best and gets me out of the hole the quickest. I would imagine the quad cab has a special way it gets out of the hole the best too. The best Car and Driver got the quad cab to run was 14.2, and they know how to launch a truck or car in the quarter mile. Now take a new quad cab owner and it's more than possible he was .3 of a second slower in the quarter than that of C&D's best time. Below are some of their findings. vehicle type: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 6-passenger, 4-door truck Price as tested: $52,115 (base price: $50,850) Engine type: pushrod 20-valve V-10, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection Displacement: 506 cu in, 8285c Power (SAE net): 500 bhp @ 5600 rpm Torque (SAE net): 525 lb-ft @ 4200 rpm Transmission: 4-speed automatic Wheelbase: 140.5 in Length/width/height: 227.7/79.9/74.7 in Curb weight: 5618 lb Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec Zero to 100 mph: 14.3 sec Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.0 sec Standing 1/4-mile: 14.2 sec @ 99 mph Top speed (drag limited): 147 mph Braking, 70-0 mph: 180 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.83 g EPA fuel economy, city driving: 9 mpg C/D-observed fuel economy: 11 mpg here is the article: http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroadtests...cab.html?al=139
  5. I don't doubt you. A SRT-10 quad cab in the hands of someone that doesn't know how to drive it could run in the mid 14's. I'm sure the same could be said for a 99-00 Lightning.
  6. Apartment living sure can suck. Does your truck's exhaust resonate? It doesn't have to be excessively loud to be annoying. There is a guy that lives around the corner from me that has a truck that rattles my windows and his exhaust isn't too loud. I had a similar problem years ago when I purchased an Arlen Ness built Harley-Davidson. The exhaust he put on it was a shorty straight pipe that was way too loud. I had to wear ear plugs or my ears would ring for hours after a long ride. I was as considerate as I could be coming and going from my home, but it was still too much for my neighbors. Finally the local motorcycle police Sargent came to my house on a weekend when he was off duty and had a talk with me. Since he grew up across the street from me and his parents still lived there, he heard about my bike. He was nice and told me that many of my neighbors had complained to him about my exhaust and I needed to fix it. He said he was telling me this while he was off duty so I could take care of it at my own leisure, but if I didn't, the next time he came to talk to me he would be on duty and I would get a ticket. Since I was tired of how loud it was I decided to get a quieter exhaust and had my bike dyno'd to get the maximum power out of it. I'm more than happy with how it sounds and runs and was thinking about doing it for a long time. My advice to you until this blows over is when you fire it up, don't give it a bunch of revs and don't let it sit and idle for a long time. Then take it easy coming and going and hopefully everyone will see that you are a considerate guy and not the one causing the problem. I park my Lightning and Harley in my garage and I leave for work at 5:30 am. My son sleeps over half the garage and my mother sleeps over the over half so I can attest to keeping it quite so I don't wake them up. It's a little bit of a hassle, but it is doable. Below is a picture of my Harley with the new exhaust.
  7. All the single cabs are six speeds and if they miss a shift the rpm's drop and it's going to take some time for them to come back up again. The problem with owning the world's fastest truck (SRT-10) is getting beat by someone in a truck that should have lost. I have only raced a quad cab, (and they are an automatic and slower than the regular cab), but the guy wasn't too happy not beating me and finally made a dumb-azz pass on the shoulder of the road to pass me in stopped traffic. Anytime you throw a rev at someone you take the chance of getting beat, but that's just part of the fun....................

There is only one way to find out, RUN HIM!
  10. I think you need to race them more than twice before you say they aren't what they are made out to be. 2001 and up Lightnings are no slouch. The 1999-2000 are only 360 hp and I think 425 lbs of torque and almost a half second slower in the quarter with their higher rear end gears. Remember, Lightnings have a 147 mph top speed stock, so that's something to think about when you challenge one on an open highway and think the race is over at eighty. Keep messing with them and one day you will find one with a driver that knows what he's doing. I wish you lived closer so I could have a run with you.
  11. I was looking at a regular cab with the stick shift. Boy I wanted that bad! It's too bad if Joe Gibbs isn't standing behind his trucks.
  12. Two years ago I found a Joe Gibbs truck back east with less than a hundred miles on it and they wanted something like $33,000 for it. I live in California and was thinking about shipping it out here, but that would have added around $2,000 more. I was almost ready to fly there and buy it until I found my truck locally for $8,000 less. I'm happy with my Lightning, but If I had lived closer to that Joe Gibbs truck I would be driving that instead.
  13. When I was looking for a truck two years ago I looked at the SSS, the SRT-10, the Toyota sport truck that just came out and a few more and came upon my Lightning online. The SRT-10 and the new SSS trucks were more money than I was willing to spend on a truck, just because my wife wanted to have a truck for going to the nursery, home depot, hardware store etc. After taking my Lightning out for a test drive I was addicted to the supercharger whine and raw torque and bought it on the spot. That was when the SRT-10's were going for $50,000 plus and the SSS were still high 30,000's to low 40,000s, so my $26,000 truck that came just the way it sits with a 7 year 75,00 mile extended warranty felt like a good deal. It's still on the stock 8 psi boost, so if I blow it up it's covered under warranty. And since I already own an SUV, I didn't need a rear seat for the family. I do wish the Lightning had an all leather interior, but it runs strong and handles very well. So for a guy on a budget, the Lightning is a pretty good bargain for the buck, and since I have always been a Chevy guy, this is the first Ford I've every wanted or owned.
  14. There was a guy over on the F-150 forums that put Lightning badges and SVT F-150 emblems on his regular F-150 truck and was thinking he was pretty cool, so he posted up a picture. After getting his chops busted by a lot of Lightning owners he decided to take them off and put Roush badging on it instead. Why would someone think putting performance badges on a non-performance truck is cool is beyond me. That's a slap in the face to all the real deal truck owners. We performance truck owners paid the price to drive our trucks and anyone that thinks they can cop on our trucks image is wrong.
  15. I hate people like that. I work with a guy that has an old 1960's Chevy truck that has been talking shit about how much he was going to beat me when he buys a crate motor and puts it in his truck. This went on for almost two years, talk-talk-talk until I finally tell him "just bring it when it's done". He finally put it in and smokes the tires off it, but it just doesn't hook up like I do. I told him all that shit talk for that? I wish people would just bring their rides and race, and leave their attitudes at home.
  16. I hope the best for him and a speedy recovery. I try to keep my fast motorcycle riding on the track (that's me on my BMW R1150RT) or the dirt (with my Honda CRF450X) but racing on the street your just playing Russian Roulette. I have lost too many friends riding like fools than I can count.
  17. I'm not sure I can drive only 3 mph over the speed limit.
  18. Below is a link that answers that question. They only came with a supercharger for a couple of years and those were the only 340 hp ones. I did read about an H-D with 450 hp that is on the drawing board, but who knows if they will really produce it. The link shows pictures of what each year looks like. http://www.factoryfat.com/fhdtrucks.html
  19. I'm interested in just how many Lightnings' you have waltzed past. I bet I could find a few that you'd have some trouble with. No matter how fast you think you are, there is always someone out there that can beat you.

    Harley Fat Boy

The Harley is a 1989 FXST. That was a Softail before the Fat Boy and all the rest of the Softail line. The engine is 93 ci's and Dyno'd at 93 hp and 92.5 ft lbs of torque. It's pretty quick in the 1/4 mile, but it feels like your riding on the space shuttle. The BMW feels like your riding a sewing machine, smooth as silk. BMW's are pricey, but very nice. I also ride dirt bikes.

    Harley Fat Boy

Your truck shouldn't be too far off a Fat Boy speed wise. I raced a co-workers 2006 H-D Road Glide with a big bore kit and a thunder header exhaust from a complete stop and we were dead even to eighty mph until I let off because the two lane road we were racing on was turning into a one lane and I didn't want to send him into the side of my truck or off into the weeds. I hit a great hole shot with little tire spin while my co-worker being a seasoned rider never missed a shift. I know if there was room to stretch it all the way out, he would have topped out at 120 or so while I would top out over 140. He was surprised I kept up with him and I was surprised he kept up with me. Bikes are fast compared to trucks and cars, but cruisers are the heaviest and slowest of the bunch. I'm not knocking them as I also own a Harley, but my BMW is faster.
  22. It's funny you say that because most of the guys on the Lightning forums don't like their looks very much and wouldn't dream about selling their trucks to buy one.
  23. Come on over to Infinion Raceway in Northern California, It's as close as you can get to sea level. Every Wednesday night is grudge racing and I read that when they redid the layout, the first 600 feet of track was made of concrete. A lot of fast times when the NHRA runs there. I live about twenty minutes from there and have never taken my truck to see what it will do. I have ridden my motorcycle there in a racing class and the track is very nice.
  24. But the Roush has a speed limiter at 105 mph. Ford Lightning owners aren't going to sell their 147 mph trucks for one of those. Chevy needs to build the one below and then I'll come back to bow tie........
