  1. The video is sped-up to result in the higher pitch ... watch it and listen again ...
  2. See you at Christmas time You found a car for your daughter in north Texas? I can get my radar detector and cool subglasses and play The Transporter Mr. P. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not quite ... we have it in EAST EAST L.A. too ... LOL ... Central AZ ... Ya almost need 2 tunes with remapped fuel/maf ... One for winter fuel and one for summer ...
  3. nice run man ... goes to show what a difference of 3 seconds looks like 11's with a tweak or two ! kudos man, taking an awd truck to deep 12's is a feat in itself ... 11H
  4. You can run 10% ethanol with no concerns whatsoever ... your mileage may drop slightly however ... The PCM will adjust for the increased oxygenate ... If you do any aftermarket tuning, you should let your tuner know however ... 11H
  5. Not anything "bad" but I keep hearing people dissing handhelds in favor of HPT or EFILive or mail order ... I could list on and on benefits and druthers for both as I am sure MOST could ... For the advanced tuner I would say yes, tuning software is better ... No question ... However you still need wideband and a dyno to extract all you are able ... For the casual person who does NOT want to spend countless hours learning HPT or EFI, some of the newer handhelds are attractive ... Maybe yes, they are programmed with a canned tune for the masses that in essence may do nothing measureable to HP, but DOES give the user the ability to re-cal for tires, gears, trans character, limited data, etc, etc ... and MOST now have the ability to upload a CUSTOM tune with the guidance of an experienced tuner ... And the ability to return to stock in 30 seconds if a dealer trip is necessary on the road ... Not knocking anyone by all means, but it seems handhelds are all labeled and tossed into the WORTHLESS pile ... On the mail order tunes ... What happens if you get a mail order tune, and it runs fine after some data logging, and you have properly verified you have no KR and have a safe AFR under most conditions ... Now you take a trip out of state pulling a 4,000 or 5,000# trailer, and get into some inappropriate fuel? and now you have KR peaking everywhere at engine loads over say 60% when you start climbing a grade? ... Yes, the PCM will pull timing to protect the motor to an extent, but does anyone want to be in a position like that? To jeapordize the longevity of a motor with a now mis-matched mail order tune? Things can change, and with mail order, you are stuck with that flash and have no opportunity other than maybe to carry an oem flash PCM right? I personally have a Predator and am in good with their head tuner and with some logging with MY truck under ALL conditions, I can send him various log files and he can send me 4 or 5 tunes tailored to my needs ... Diablosport has the capability to tune any and all things as does HPT and if the tune is written right, with his 10 years of having been tuning, and their in-house dyno and tuners on the street, how is it that HIS custom tunes cannot compete with a mail order tune? I mean everyone is bragging about mail order and it makes bukoo power, but I can log some various drive time with A.Tap, email it to diablo, tell him the fuel I run and he can email me 3 tunes to test ... Now how is mail order better than this again? sorry to enflame, but these boards are for info, and the regulars here seem to blanket recommend mail order over a handheld OR in this case tunign software over a handheld ... You have to know what you're doing to have the software ... If you are ept, and willing the software is priceless ... But I would venture to say, as myself, I have experience TESTING tunes and LOGGING so I have a working knowledge of the PCM ... But when it comes to tuning with software, I could not compete with a custom tuning dept that has 10 yeard of R&D on what works and what doesn't ... and nominally, is friends with a few of the guys doing mail order in the first place, so secrets are shared ... You can tell a person a PC based game has better graphics, better capability, (hardware willing), more people in the know play them, and they are for the elite gamer ... But you still have MORE Xbox games and PS2 Games being sold world wide ... why? different strokes for different folks and it depends on their ability to learn, embrace and execute ... and how MUCH TIME THEY HAVE TO DEVOTE TO SAID CAUSE ... my .03 cents 11H
  6. I believe the increased HP is coming from variable valve timing ... at least on the LQ9 ... don't know if it's accross the board ... Similar to the ecotec in function ... Revised cam and tuning will most likely go along with the vvt then ... This is the info I have coming from the proving grounds; second or 3rd hand I'm sure
  7. Mostly due to the VVT on the new motor ... from what I have been told; the torque curve at the lower end should be similar than the non-VVT LQ9
  8. On the dyno here in AZ E-Fans are good for between 6-8 HP ... Some have noticed up to 10 ... However right from the GM area Rep and proving grounds here they are not as good as a mechanical fan for towing heavy ...
  9. No longer available... I decided to install it with a different tail and tip ... Thanks

  11. Personally I don't choose flowmaster because overall flow capability and a muffler big enough to grow into is my pick ... BUT the post was for those who like flowmasters and maybe there is a better flowing alternative? -- also look at the prices and warranty ... I think Flowmaster had a good thing going in their ability to scavenge when applied as a dual muffler setup in a fully thought out exhaust system (header to outlet) ... I actually believe flowmasters can scavenge in an exhaust system designed for it, but not in an oem setup ... In this case throughput in CFM would not matter in a true scavenging environment ... As the market now has changed to everyone wants a cat back, they have to of course sieze some of that and sell purely on the sound and durability ... I had a flow series 70 on a 5.3 truck and 2 chambers literally turned the case dark brown after repeated dyno runs ... I think the flow 70 is a "botchery" ... IMO Does anyone know the max CFM requirement of the LQ9 in a single muffler application? I am guessing 550-650 or so? (and at what differential achieved?) Inletting is something like 450 to 500 right? 11H
  12. CFM chart included; anyone ever hear one of these mufflers? Seems if they sound like a flowmaster, it would be better to have the increased CFM ... http://www.importperformanceparts.net/impo...boar_vtube.html
  13. Only if it was a year newer with a TBI 350 !
  14. WOW NO TAKERS AT $399??? WHY? Looks like eBay ... thanks fellas ...
  15. I think he's putting entirely too much analyses into the damn commercial ... I take it as, "Through thick and thin, for better or worse, through tough times and sad, we all can reflect... a part of that reflection goes along with apple pie, baseball games and chevy trucks" ... IMO, the marketers could have put a bit of good ol american positive spin with the presentation of an all new awesome truck without including so much shameful times and hardship of course ... It's one of those types of commercials that will part a number of people onto the left side and a number of people on the right side ... while the truck drives through the middle ... pretty ingenious marketing if you ask me ... they achieved their goal ... albeit I think they could have selected a better singer and added a few more monumental american achievements that were a bit more positive toned, but who am I ... The guy makes a few good points; but gets into it too deeply ... It is meant to MOVE people ... It does ... nuff said
  16. what is the file extension / type of video format ?
  17. It's all good bro, you described it to a T ... I just wasn't able to see how it would look on my truck without seeing it in person ... I think it was a great concept for your truck with the black accents ... Anyone going with a "blackout" look or not wanting to keep a tail pipe and tip polished would want this exhaust ... Or even at this price, could keep everything forward of the tail pipe and have their own tip and pipe made however they want ... I know you had to spend a good penny on the coating job ... I just need to do all I can to not have my white truck look like a work truck, and a flashy tip is part of it I guess ...
  18. Check out the DUBS on the TORO !!! ...
  19. I bought a B&B cat back from Kyle on here and MIGHT go with the GMPP cat back ... There is absolutely nothing wrong with the kit ... One joint will need to be welded; other than that it is all bolt-in ... Driven for a month in So Cal Here's my issue... CaliChevyV8 when he bought it, he got the whole tail pipe including the tip coated for a subdued look. It is a semi-gloss textured black. He tells me it was an involved process done up to withstand heat ... I have a white truck and am not crazy about a black coated tip ... The GMPP kit allows for any tip I want ... It comes down to cost for me ... it would seem hacking off a very nice T304 stainless dual layer dual outlet tip would defeat the purpose of having a B&B in the first place as it would alter their unique sound ... The muffler is hand made and is a bright polished stainless Retail on this kit is $854 ... I will let it go for $399 + s/h ... Pictures upon request, I can email them to you directly ... Also, email or PM your shipping address so I can figure shipping ... If you go here---> Denali 6.0 H.O. sound clip you can hear a 6.0 HO with the side exit kit ... I take paypal ... I will not take offers under $399 plus shipping ...
  20. only 50 hp faster stock for stock ...
  21. I am thinking with liners it's not a perfect world ... If you want it to stay pretty don't do anything to it or haul anything in it ... But if you use a pickup for what it is intended for (hauling) then an over the rail liner has the most appeal ... If you don't do an OTR liner, and then buy a hard tonneau, you will mar the paint down to metal because the cover and bed don't mate 100% since the cover is glass and expands and contracts like a taco, and the bed flexes as well ... every hard glass tonno I have seen where there was NOT an otr liner, the paint was marred-off ... if you do any sitting, climbing, or any hauling where a load can shift onto a rail, then you want a otr liner ... I mean it's not a perfect world, but an otr liner that is done nice and thick and has straight contours looks like it is near factory ... many trucks come with plastic otr protectors and I hate them because the bed is molded to accomodate them ... IMO the BEST compromise is OTR ... It can be touched up for free after you pay to get it done most places, and if you wash it with TIDE powder, the shine comes right back ... Some day a relative will ask you to haul a couch or love seat, and it will shift and take out your pretty painted rail ... you'll wish you had a black rail instead of a dented or gouged rail ... The hardened material also increases rigidity .. I am about the most anal retentive perfectionist on the planet and on my last 3 trucks I go OTR ... I sit there, I strap quads down, other people not knowing me and my truck CLIMB on the rails, etc ... It is pretty hard to keep unprotected rails perfect unless it's a sunday driven garage queen ... my .02
  22. Mike, well whether it is Borla or Corsa, being that you can buy it for about $475 shipped is a steal... Then put your own tip on it ... the tips GM sells don't have a length of pipe on them so it must come out to a decent area to where you can have your choice of tips installed. if i didn't get that B&B from Kyle for a good price, I would have pics for you because this was the kit I was considering ...
  23. So this mod without a custom tune specifically for the 160 degree T-stat is worthless? Interesting. (In my opinion) Where or how do you change the fan settings? Is this also in the tune? (There are many ways, but since it is controlled by the PCM, you need to retune it; however you may is up to you) I would also like to know if there are any negative side effects to this mod, such as the heater not working right in the winter. (This gets subjective; with a 160 stat, the coolest you can buy, you delay warm-up significantly, meaning you are holding in enrichment mode longer, which many have said, increses the chance of more oil oxidation sooner over time, and repeated cycles of long warm-ups and possibly running a 160 in cold weather increases the chance you don't as efficiently burn your air/fuel resulting in some long term neg side effects. Again, it depends on your environment, HOW or WHO tunes your truck, and how you maintain it. In the performance world there is always an amount of risk when you increase power. In short, if you live in the south where you don't have much chance of freezing temps, run one. Run it with an oil no thicker than 10W30, and if you live in the north, maybe a 180 is a compromise)With a factory stat, it takes 10 miles of solid drive time or so to fully warm the oil to evap off contaminants; preferably highway miles. Why doesn't GM design the trucks with the 160 T-stat in the first place? Is there some reason they want to keep the engine warmer? (They run the stat they run to allow for a fast warm-up and to allow for a complete burn of the air/fuel to ensure low emmissions. Consequently the cooling system is designed around the factory stat, so adding a 160 doesn't mean you are going to drastically reduce the head temp, but it helps a little if you are going for the most aggressive tune possible) If you have a vehicle with a mechanical fan, my testing has shown a 160 stat eventually allows 195 stat operating temps anyways here in AZ. If you have elec fans, you can get them on earlier to help support the 160. I don't run a 160 because I have a picky dealership with nosey techs that would take it upon themselves to "troubleshoot" why my truck was not showing what all the other show, and whether I left my tune in or not, it would cause issues. So for me, I keep the stock stat and the person writing my tunes has told me, they can work around it, and the ability for heat soak here in AZ doesn't pose a huge benefit swapping in a 160 stat... Once a tune is installed say mail order or any for that matter, not many people LOG or monitor their truck as to see what the tune evolvs to, most just trust the tuner so a lot of what you are asking here is not verified by most
  24. I believe this is the system for the 5.3 ... I can't find the pictures that showed the actual SS system... I referenced those against the installation manual pictures for the Corsa, and it looked to be identical ... This kit below is not a Borla muffler ... Is it possible they both sourced the part number you mention? (Sure wish I could find the pics of the SS system I saw... damn it)
  25. a little more than that ... It decreases the mean running temp of the combustion chamber ... Not by much, but a small amount ... This allows a more aggressive pcm tune as far as timing and fuel ... In comparison to the oem stat, you have a bit more tuning margin with a 160 ... Running a 160 without a tune to take advantage of it, and lower fan settings as well would be near worthless and potentially cause a MIL to set ...
