Has anyone else noticed the fact that they told him they can tune it for 87????

I don't know if you got your truck new or used but I belive in more than one place in the service manual owners manual and the vehicle sticker it tells you from GM not to run less than 90 octane.. the static compression ratio in your stock lq9 is defintely not designed for low octane fuel... and whoever told you this story from hypertech obviously is a salesman and has zero tune time.. does he even drive a car or does he ride a segway to work?

The best advice I can give is you can take everyone's knowledge as opinions and make your own choice and find out for yourself. Some lessons are learned by pocket book an others by lumps and bumps.

ohhhh yeeeeaaaah....i noticed it at first but completly forgot. from my understanding you ccan run 87 but not only will your engine run poorly *and hurt it in the end* it would also get considerably less mileage

I had a superchips handheld and if you read my post you can see why I don't like it. I can tell you with 91 oct 2-40 flowmasters and a AEM I am getting about 17 MPG while I am on driving probation. (Drive like a granny) It has good power but it can always be better. As for the hypertech my friend has one on his 7.3 powerstroke and he switched to a bully dog and you can't believe the diffrence. Hypertech seems to me like the are quite conservitive in there tunes. Just my experince and .02 Ill sell ya a superchips programer cheap :tear:

to answer a few things..

1'st you can run 87 in the LQ9 (i called the service department and reseached this a bit on-line) what will happen is your timing will retard i beleive and the pc adjust it self to it, in turn lowering your milage and performance, so using the cheaper gas is a waste of time.

2'nd if i recall correctly i've never seen a test on a SSS any slower then 15.1 heres one.. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/pickup...et_silverado_ss

also if i remember in 03 there was a test against a ram, and the SSS ran just under 15.. so 16's for a stock SSS awd or not ain't right.

3'rd i think enough people have chimed in against the handhelds, that i now think i'm going to try to find a 06 pcm to have tuned.. and in the mean time look for a used hypertech 30032 to buy and see what happends? (can always sell it and get my money back) just so i can settle this... it's realy itching me to see what they do and don't now

If you read that article those #" are for a 2wd SS. I don't think you will find to many stock AWD SS's running low 15's.

how about high 14's?... read these articles and you will see what 2003 awd's run.

out of curiousity how could you think that the awd trucks are so slow?.. they have always been high 14 low 15 trucks.. ask anyone on here (suprised no one else has said anything) my 03 xcsb 5.3 was running high 15's.. i've seen sss's run mid 15's at lacr in palmdale, and ask anyone in cali lacr "sucks" it's 3000 feet elevation and always runs around a half second or so to slow..

i'm not trying to start a debate with you, but it's just fact.

i think you should just buy the hypertech and forget what everyone else is telling you. you obviously have a predisposed belief that it is better so why not just buy it? just because the majority of the people on here say it is junk is no reason for you not to buy it.

never said it was better, i know it's not, i just think it can't be that bad?.

i'm going to look on ebay and wait for the next one to pop up there... but i'm still getting the tune after that, once i find a used 06 pcm that matchs my truck.

i have one.  whats it worth?

they go for $290 shipped on ebay brand new, and about half that used..

are you looking to sell yours? if so you would have to return your truck to it's stock tune before it could be used on any other truck...

Guess I just have a slow truck. Buy the handheld now and then get a tune when you figure out you wasted your money.

well maybe you do or maybe you don't :dunno: but what i do know is there all mid 15's or lower some ran faster with no mods then others with mod's... it goe's to show you track conditions and driver ability have to be accounted for.. otherwise you could debate this all day you say "to-mato" i say "toma-to" i ran 15.6 bone stock at a shit track and at a good track close to sea level it would be around 15 give or take a tick and i had less then a thousand miles on it.. another guy in oregon/washington?? just ran 14.5 bone stock... and we all know the magazine testers use the best tracks with experianced drivers...

also i stated i would be buying a "used" hypertech to experiment with until i get a tune (will post results) so i won't be wasting anything.

so let's just agree to disagree.
