Luaderdale SS Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 What should I have the stock tire pressure at? I have it at 39PSI now, but I may drop it back to what the dealer had it at 26PSI. Hoping to smooth the ride out, vvery bumpy/rough. what do you run?
NashSS Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 I would say 39 is to high but I agree that 32 would be good but it should have recommended tire psi on the drivers door info area.
rivierakid55 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 i run my at 40 psi. with 22's i like the extra psi. with my stockers i kept it at 35. more pressure equals harsher ride but a little bit better tire wear. on another note, when i got my 06 ss i hated how bumpy the ride was. a 2/2 drop kit later and i couldnt be more pleased with the ride. didnt even use my nitro drop shocks i bought with the kit as the ride was 100 times better. firmer, but more forgiving.
kissfans03ss Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 you guys are right,i'd go with 32-35 or check on your tire it should usualy give you a hot or cold setting,or you can always check on the driver door if i'm not mistaken will also give you a factory setting, hope this helps.
Outsource Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Call me crazy.......but after reading this I ran outside and dropped mine down from 39 to 34. The specs inside the door jam say 30.........so i'll try it at 34 and go from there.
Bowtie70SS Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Max pressure on my stock Goodyears is 44psi or so it says on the side wall. I run 44psi in mine in hopes of a little better fuel economy. If the tire calls for a max of 44 I would be uncomfortable running less than 32-35. I know too much air will wear out the center of the tread and too little will wear out the edges. Dave
misterp Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 The only way to really know what pressure you should inflate to is by using a pyrometer to measure tire temperature across the tread and get an idea of tire wear. I just took a guess and inflated to 36psi, but that might be a tad too much (overinflated) in the rear. Mr. P.
tonman316 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 i run my at 40 psi. with 22's i like the extra psi. with my stockers i kept it at 35. more pressure equals harsher ride but a little bit better tire wear. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On my last ss i ran 32 and i saw the outside wear down fast. No w i keep it at 40psi.
Luaderdale SS Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 Thanks for everyones response, gonna try a little lower PSI.
BlkSilvySS Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I go off of the Door Placard, as we were taught in school. As that's what the suspension is designed to be aligned and work it's best at....30psi
dcairns Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 On my 03, the door placard seems to be talking about some other tire. I found 32-34 PSI to be about right on the stock tires.
T-Bag Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I run the fronts at 42 psi and the rears at 39 psi, doing this on my last truck with the same eagle ls2's I got 50K out of those.
