New 03 SS for a little over $20,000!

It's time for trailering 101 kiddies! I've gotta know why our trucks can't tow with a fifth wheel. What is the difference between pulling a trailer with 5500 lbs on the bumper hitch, tow bar or gooseneck or fifth wheel? It seems to me that the weight being over the axle is much safer than it hanging a foot behind the bumper! Please, educate me! I'll probably never use the information, the only trailer I pull is a small 10 foot utility trailer for the bike, mowers, limbs, etc... and it hangs off of my bumper ( or trailering hitch, mounted to the frame)

Damn Autoguy, that was a little much. Sometimes your post make you look like a total ****, but that's just my opinion. :D

Maybe it was a little much, but I was trying to make point that just because Ben said it was ok doesn't mean it's right. But then again he will probably delete this because it's JMO.

Autoguy , Easy does it . It was just an opinion . If someone asks me if they should run nitrous I always say yes , doesnt mean I will cover any damage . I know its a risk but thats what lifes all about . Yes he bought the wrong truck , but he would take a heavy loss trading it in now . If he loses 10k on his trade or has to buy a new transmission for his SS that is alot cheaper . You have to weigh the options . Maybe he can find an aftermarket warranty that will cover him . Talk to the insurance company and see if they cover a fifth wheel thats not exceding his rated tow rate . You can only do what you can do ... :D

 Just my opinion... Anyway, it's somthing he is going to have to choose. Just like when my dad told me that if I mod my Impala SS, it'll void my warranty. Look at my signature :D:chevy:

Thanks for all the great feedback, youze guys  Rock...

Well here it is, my dealer here won't bug me (but he will not sell or install the hitch in the box) if something should happen, so I'm ok at home, it's when I'm travelling, some will go to no end to make life miserable and go by the book. Everyone has run into one of these clowns in their travels...

For everyones reading pleasure,

Page 4-68 of the Owners Manual has right under the large Font

If you decide to pull a trailer

Notice: If your vehicle is equipped with the SS trim package, do not pull a fifth-wheel camper or you could damage your vehicle.

As well in the Trailering with Chevy Trucks Brochure

Page 3 in the chart, no red (fifth-wheel) bar graph for the SS

and on page 9 at bottom of page next to the same Arrival Blue I have,

last phrase indicates The Silverado SS is not intended for fifth wheel towing.

In the meantime I have spoken to the Trailer towing Guru in Canada

Garth Cane from RV Lifestyle Magazine and he cannot understand why GM has chosen to insert this and this is the reply he gave me via e-mail.

Here is the specifications for the K1500 Silverado SS- there is no mention of a ban on fifth wheel towing.

I am waiting for a reply from Richard Jacobs at GM Canada

So that's where I stand.

My last option will be to use the Customer Satisfaction Procedure listed on page 7-2 and come to a resolution with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan.

I bought the SS over the GMC Sierra Denali because I was told I could tow and the SS looks much cooler.

A little down in the dumps...

Ya I know I'm with you 100%, I saw that in the 2004 brochure too and RV Lifestyles Garth Cane confirmed it see end, he really provide a lot of specs

He's trying to get an answer from GM Re: Owners Manual and Trailering with Chevy Truck Brochure. No fifth-wheel trailering, It makes no sense...

There's nothing in the 2003 Chevy Truck brochure or One page Cardboard Silverado SS 2003 handout.

I even bought the top of line GM extended warranty that the Business Manager

recommended because I was going to be towing a fifth-wheel.

A lot of fun and a very cheezed off at her husband wife, oh well...
