  1. what makes the coolent temp rise? does it rise more when you have the ac on? i've been noticing when my ac is on, the temp will go up to 200-210, is this normal? but when the ac is off, it runs at 185 when i'm babbying the throttle. so basically, i will get more timing when the ac is off and the temp is at 185, right? i'm just trying to figure the do and dont's to get more timing out of my 160* stat when i need it, thats all. any info will be appeciated.

    coolant temp rises when the ac is on because the air passes over the condensor first heating up and then passes through the radiator at lets say 150 degrees compared to 85 with out the air on. this in turn causes your engine temp to rise due to inefficect cooling of the radiator................. add electric fans= no more problems

  2. my current job lets me get that.. last stealership i went to showed me numbers that im only saving about one grand on a new vehicle for the wife.... i think he was BSing me

    depends on what u r buying, sticker on my truck was 37,500 after rebates at the time 3750 and supplier discount i got it out the door for 34,500 incleding tax and licence

  3. if you plan on never using on-star then you can go without that converter, it just silences your radio and uses your speakers for the audio. I got a pioneer N3 installed and went with the on-star and steering wheel modules to keep every thing functional. No bose module needed if you are not going to use the stock amp and sub, they are junk anyway!

  4. my SS does NOT get 425 miles to the tank. in fact the DIC shows about 340.. how do you squeeze 425 out??

    the point to getting a vehicle that burns less gas is to not pay more money each month. getting a beater that i have to also finance defeats that purpose. no, i dont have that much extra cash laying around to afford 420 a month for the SS, 190 a month for another car, etc etc

    i even thought about getting the 4x4 regular gas avalanche.

    my SS can get 18 in the city driving nicely, and 13 to 17 on the highway.. if im on a downgrade road, my DIC will show 20 or more, but in chicago, you dont drive downhill alot. my i55 to i355 (and reverse coming home) has me sit in a alot of bumper to bumper traffic. the SS makes that comfortable, but then the stop and go traffic makes me burn more.

    tell me how to squeeze 425 miles to a tank!

    guess you are getting more like 14mpg overall, and what i ment was your commute was 425 mi per week and it would take you 26 to 30 gallons of gas to make your commute, do the math before you sell, did this and its nice having the car around, same situation myself but a little longer commute.

  5. if you really want to go slow then buy the new truck, but just remember, there is no replacement for displacement! As for the A.F.M. it seems to only work in the tahoes when cruising below 60mph or going down hill. if you want fuel economy but a car(HONDA)

    sss= 425 miles /16mpg= 26.5 gallonper week. x $3 per.gal.=$80 per week=$4160 per year

    Honda civic=425 miles/35mpg=12.15 gallonper week x $3 per.gal.=$36.5 per week=$1900 per year

    Difference of $2260 per year or 190 a month=small car payment> now who says you cant afford another car?!
