  1. Well, you are doing the right thing by asking around IMHO. With your mod list, a respectable tuner could dial you in a nice improvement quite easily. Honestly with a short list like your's, a mail order tune would do just fine. If you are looking for a spot on work-over, find a tuner with access to a dyno (loaded) that can re-map your airmass tables and ensure your AFR is spot on. After that, it is basically timing advance and the fun stuff (top speed limiter, shift points/firmness, TQ management etc.). Keep in mind you will likely pay double of a mail order for that service and not really benefit a whole bunch with your mod list. Once you get into aggressive cams, forced induction, displacement changes, it is a good idea to find a reputable live local tuner that can spend the time you will require.

  2. 1.633 here Kevin, who had the 1.5. sent from a race track or a grassy knoll

I believe (correct me if I am wrong) ASFASTESTSS (sp) turned a 1.5 on one of his runs many years ago however wasn't his fastest ET so it wasn't added to the list.

  3. Very good discussion and suggestions as a result of this thread. The intent was to re-establish the site rules, bring to the forefront some issues we (mods) are seeing as well as solicit recommendations for site improvement.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

  4. Wow, so I'm not the only one that is going to be using dual widebands on a boosted truck! I'm not sure why its not more popular, if you have a injector issue on the opposite bank that the wideband is on the motor is junk!

Unless you are running a custom EFI controller, dual widebands are just that, a monitoring device. Tuning each bank seperately is not an option with our GM OS.

I am running two because of the direct port. 2 solenoids on each bank that can have problems. The thing is that you can only monitor what you see. Just because one bank goes lean doesn't mean you didn't hurt something before you saw it go lean. Sent from my Motorola RAZR MAXX using Tapatalk 2

Yes, by the time you recognize an issue, there is a good chance it is too late.

I would consider saving the cost of dual gauges and just do a toggle device between two wideband sensors to one monitor (gauge).

  5. For me, it is all in how retirement is defined so:

So by definition, I will retire at 62 as long as the “rules” don’t change

By my own definition, I will retire by 50, 13 years to go. I do not have a pension or any special incentive so my wealth will be built on my own. It isn’t how much money you earn but how much you spend or intend to spend in retirement. My goal will be to get to 50 and then do something I wholeheartedly WANT to do, regardless of pay. I am busting my ass now to be comfortable later. I am fortunate in my career choice and am finally realizing financial reward for my hard work.

  6. On the other hand, there are some things you have to account for when running nitrous. Main thing is a fuel pressure cutoff switch. If the switch sees the fuel pump in the stand alone tank lose fuel pressure it will cut off a breaker and kill the system and stop spraying nitrous. Rule #1 - Nitrous + Low Fuel = melted pistons. No bueno.

Agree. As well as running too rich of a mixture. Many think you should be running rich however running rich is the fastest way to ignite a ring land using nitrous. I ran in the high12's AFR using a large shot of Nitrous and the plugs told me that is right where I needed to be. When spraying over a supercharged application, it is a tricky balance of AFR. Tuning is essential!

  7. DCR is what you should be comparing rather than SCR. A cam profile, overlap in particular, can allow for high compression ratios on pump gas.

FWIW, I ran 11.5 SCR on pump gas (93 RM Octane) without issue. I have seen 12's SCR on pump gas in a LSx engine as well.

A set of 243's on a stock LQ9 bottom end would be a nice combo IMHO. The right cam / converter combo would make for a sweet N/A set-up.

  8. BR6EF gapped 30-32

I would agree here. I have found that the recessed plugs are giving less knock (false or otherwise) over the traditional extended tip plugs on the boosted LQ9s. I would also recommend the copper core over the fancy IR or PT and change them out avery 10k or so. Again, nothing wrong with the NGK TR6's for your application, I just lean toward the NGK BR6EFS lately.
