  1. I have been running the 420's for about 20,000 miles now and they are fine. Not much wear at all. they are great in the rain. I went with the stock size as I will not want to chance them rubbing anywhere. Get a set, you will be happy! http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?ra=searchTiresByVehicleAndSize.do&tt=false&yr=2003&pc=40411&counter=0&ar=55&rd=20&vid=008862&sw=false&cs=275 $166 and free shipping CD
  2. I have 65,000 on my 03 SS. Repaired to front diff, speedo cluster replaced and a FLT Level 7 trans. I talked to my cousin today and his 1999 5.3 Silverado has 305,000 and still going strong! CD
  3. The SS is coming this fall with a 6.2. We got the 3.6 and with 300 hp it is not bad. Today on the trip we averaged 31 mpg driving 600 miles.
  4. The main thing that my wife loves is the electric steering assist. It is REALLY smooth at low speed, and steady in traffic. No jumping or drifting. The 6 speed auto is sweet, it will jump you right off the line. CD
  5. Thanks Guys for your comments. We still have an 03 Impala, so I sure know about them. I hope to get the MyLink stuff figured out on our trip this weekend. CD
  6. All Guys, we broke down and got a new family ride a couple of weeks ago. Worked with my dealer and ordered a 2014 Impala. Champagne Silver w/ 3.6 V6. My wife loves it, which is the main thing, but I like it also. Taking it on a 1200 mile road trip over the weekend and see how it does for mileage. CD
  7. I found this on a quick Google search, but it is a 99 Silverado. It might help. http://www.z71.net/whipple.pdf. CD
  8. I just had to replace my Cats and also wondered if the truck would sound any different. But No, just the same with the MagnaFlow cats i went with. FWIW CD
  9. OK Guys, I got the SS back on the road today. The passenger side head gasket was blown between the #6 & #8 cylinder. When this happened raw fuel dumped into the cats and melted them. I had the work done by a local shop that I have used in the past and they did a great job. I had both heads removed and surfaced, the valves reground and all the springs and guides checked. Replaced the intake, exhaust and manifold gaskets. Replaced the cats with Magnaflow HiFlows. The other thing that failed were the Taylor wires. They heat soaked and just snapped off when we went to pull them off the plugs. I went back with OEM wires as the length seems to put more separation between the exhaust and the wires. It sure felt good to get back in it. Thanks for the tips and encouragement. CD
  10. Yes, we got an update on the truck today. We got it towed Saturday to the shop of the man who helped to install the supercharger. He ran compression checks and found that #8 & #6 are leaking into one another. so a blown head gasket. This is the findings BEFORE teardown, things could get worse, but I am encouraged so far. He is getting pricing on the needed parts and I will know more about the cost tomorrow. Most likely both heads will come off and get gaskets to make things match. CD
  11. Yea, I have been here awhile! Boosted all the way to 60,000 miles. With it pumping water out I know it will not be simple, but we will be it going again.
  12. OK, Thanks. I will have to come up with compression gauge. CD
  13. Well Guys, on the way home today I stopped and got gas. When I pulled out I got in the throttle good and then we had some heavy pings/knocking, a funny sound, then a BIG loos of power. I went one mile and had to leave the truck in a parking lot. It will only fast idle, and sounds bad and it pumps water out of the overflow. It did NOT over heat. I had been driving for 20 miles when I stopped to fill up for the weekend. I fear that I cracked a piston as bad as it sounded. The truck had been running OK, but with some ping when I pushed it, so I getting ready to do a SEA Foam treatment to address that problem. This is my DD so I am in a mess, and don't have a shop I can turn to. Hoping to find someone this weekend. What small things can I do to make a good guess at this problem. I can't tear it down on the side of the road!? Let me hear your thoughts or PM me. All my mods are in my SIG. CD
  14. Sorry I did not see this before now. Looks like you will have about the setup as I have. Start thinking NOW as to how you would add an intercooler to your setup. I sure wish I had one. I would go with the smallest pulley and be done with it. I run 8 to 9 lbs of boost, but I don't play hard either as the SS is my DD. Be sure to read and observe the directions on the OIL level and type. I use Royal Purple SAE 50 synthetic. Holler if I can Help. CD
  15. I would be interested to hear more about the complete build. First thought is about what Cam are you going to use, what lift does it have. If it is over .580" I would not think the LS6 springs and a blower are NOT going to be the best for you. A better set of springs will take you a long ways so as reliability is concerned. Also let us know which Radix you are going with, that will also set what size valves are right for you. CD
  16. No Sir, that should not be there. Any insulation should be on the removalable cover, not under the rail. CD
  17. 2003 Arrival Blue, new in August of 03 with 55,000 miles. Like Ray said, it still makes me smile. CD
  18. Just for giggles and grins, try adding 100 or more LBS in the bed. Sand Mulch, people, whatever, and take a drive. This changes the Pinon angle. It made mine smooth out. I ended up just living with it as I did not have the tools to make the proper measurements and repairs. CD
  19. My washer bottle is also leaking. What is involved in replacing it and do you have a part #? Thanks CD
  20. It might be fun for you to try one of the Online sites that can Decode your Vin # . It will confirm a number of things about your truck. I like other here always thought the 2006 was the last year of the SS, and supect that your truck is no different than a 2006. If you do use one of the sites to decode your vin, Please share the info as we would all love to learn more about our trucks. Did you buy it New or Used? nice find either way. Happy New Year CD
