  1. That pin was in there nice and tight. I am gonna take it out and disconnect a speaker and add a tweeter directly off the HU. That should let me know if it is the Z2 or the harness.
  2. I have checked every setting on the unit. I read in other posts from other websites about all the amplified/non amped wire harnesses. This is just the regular stereo with no amplifiers, and I am running the Metra GMRC01 harness. I checked every setting for a "mute" somwhere, but everything is turned up. I just don't get how the sound worked, and when I reset it, it stopped. I am thinking about trying a different harness and see if that one stopped. It was used already.
  3. I finally put in the z2 today, and there are some probs. I had everything in good, but it wasn't bypassed because I didn't put in the update cd. I pushed the reset button on it, and now there is no sound. I have reset is several times, took off the grounded wires, and looked at EVERY setting!! I cannot figure it out. After I put in the cd and updated it, the bypass works great now, but I have NO SOUND!! Speakers still put out voltage, and factory radio still works. Does anyone have a clue? I wanted to call Pioneer, but they are only mon-fri...
  4. I put 194's in the trim pads and in the map lights. They were the 5 led bulbs. Only costs 11.00 after shipping and they are bright as hell. I just shopped around on ebay.
  5. I put the white LEDS in all the dome lights and trim pads, and it makes a night and day difference. I want to get the 3rd light like yours as well. I like it because it retains the factory look and doesn't look like a civic...lol
  6. I don't know about 2 vs 4 ohm. I know that an 8 ohm sub is better for rock music because it responds quicker vs a 4 ohm sub. Use 4 Ohm for deeper, longer bass notes. By this info, I would say that if you are looking for deeper bass, go with 2 ohm.
  7. Maybe the guy at the GM plant was having a bad day...lol
  8. If it is coming off with the pressure washer, I bet it was repainted. Look for fine sand scratches under the paint. Maybe it wasn't sanded, so the new paint had nothing to adhere to.
  9. I did just what the website said to, so hopefully that will work. I still have to download the program onto the cd and put that into the avic. I wonder if this part is really needed...??
  10. I guess I might as well do it now while it is not in the truck yet. Did you bypass anything when you installed yours, or is it installed like it is "supposed to be"?
  11. Here is a picture of the harness from the avalanche. It is just the 2 purple wires off to the side. Those are the power wires to the pigtails, and both have a ground. Can I just unplug the purple pin and plug that in on my green plug and just ground the two grounds? I went to order the GM kit today, and it was on national backorder. No ETA whatsoever....so I figured I would try to make this work. I costs me $77 for the valence, lights, harness, relay and the switch. This should be exactly like the one from GM. Should I unplug the pin and put it on mine in the same place then?
  12. I looked at that and they said to take the cell mute wire and move it over a pin and ground that. That was for the Z1. I don't know if it will be different for the Z2 or not. When I put it in here soon, I will ground the parking wire, and see if that is good enough I guess. If not, then I will have to do the bypass. I just don't know if it is necessary to do the second wire or not.
  13. I had a flip out in my last truck, and to do the bypass all I had to do was ground the wire going to the parking brake. Can I just do the same to this without any adverse side effects? It says to tap into the power side of the parking brake so that when it is on it grounds out. This should essentially do the same thing on this unit,as long as I ground the wire from the start..??
  14. I want to get the chevy fog lights, but I have the avalanche harness. It should be the same. The fog kit from GM has the harness for the fogs only. there are no other wires for any of the lights. I can get the whole kit for 180, but I want to do the budget way. I have the relay, switch, and now the harness from an avalanche. I just need the lights, which I can get cheap from work. I just don't know if I am gonna be better off getting the whole kit, or trying to make my own. I can get lots of dash pieces. What are you looking for?
  15. I have the Avic-Z2. I saw it on avic411.com for the install, and they wanted to tap into the dimmer. It was that brown wire on the switch. Here's the link... http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php...light=silverado They installed the z1, but I dont know if that plays movies or not. I decided that I will not tap into that wire because if I am watching a dvd, I don't want it to dim. Not that big of a deal to me. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't for anything else besides dimming it with the light switch. I thought it was a very good write up with great pictures of all the wires to tap into. Dimmer,VSS, and wire for the BU camera. Thanks guys.
  16. I want to put the avic z2 in my truck, and I was reading on avic411.com about the illumination wire. Easiest place to tap into that is behind the headlight switch. Is this necessary to hook up this wire? What will happen if I dont? I never hooked one up before on all teh radios i have installed. If I hook that up does it just let me dim the unit with the gauges? Thanks
  17. Yeah, that's the avalanche fog light. There are two bulbs in the lamp. One of them is the actual fog, and I dont really know what the other one is. It might be the drl. All I need is the fog plug. I don't know if I am better of getting the whole kit through my buddy at the dealership or trying this much cheaper way. We have quite a few silverados there, but none with fogs, or one with a wrecked front for the fog light "donor".
  18. It looks like my truck isn't wired for the fogs. I work at a junk yard, so I now have the dash switch for it. Today I got the relay and the complete harness from the fog pig tails up to the brain. My question now is that the harness is from an 02 Avalanche. I know the fogs in those have the fog and a turn signal. I will pull all the extra stuff off and hopefully this will work. Does anyone think that this would work from an Avalanche? It should still be the same fog pigtail????
  19. I have the GMRC-01 harness. I believe it is Metra. I don't have Bose or onstar, so this should be the correct harness. I have no instructions on the harness. Do you remember what wire was the VSS on the harness? That will make it a lot easier. Thanks for the tip on the bracket. I want to address all the problems so that I am not stuck out in the cold very long. I am gonna try to run the GPS antennae up under the middle of the dash somewhere. I also have to run the mic for the GPS under the left A pillar. I have a 10.2" Alpine flip down monitor to install also, but that can wait for a bit. I dont know if it will fit on the "hump" in the headliner. It is a big monitor. Thanks guys!
  20. I have an avic z2 that I am getting ready to install. I have read all the forums about the avic, but do you guys have any tips on installing this? I have the correct harness, install kit and everything else. I had a flip out dvd player in the last truck that I installed, but this has the nav feature. I know that the easiest way to get to the VSS wire is behind the speedo. Is it pretty much going to be plug and play, and tap into the VSS wire? I do not want to hook up the backup camera yet. I had no problems diving into the last truck because it was older, but this is only 2 yrs old and I don't want to ruin anything. Anybody have any tips? Is there anything really to know before hand? I have put in many stereos before, but no nav units. Thanks.
  21. I have the Metra harness for the radio, and hopefully when I install that, there won't be any problems in the future when I get the Remote start. Thanks.
  22. I couldn't tell if my truck was wired or not. It was too covered in ice to tell. I have the 07 classic, not an SS, so I hope it still has the harness underneath.
  23. I don't have bose or onstar in my truck. What is the best adapter to use with the avic? Do the chimes still sound like the factory ones, or do they sound different? BestBuy said that the harness was over $100, but I can find them on ebay all day for less then $60. Any luck on teh ebay harnesses??
  24. I have the 6000k hids, and I love them. When you get the more blue bulbs, you actually lose visibility. Signs aren't as reflective, and the road isn't as bright. I would stay away from anything higher than 6000k. Just my .02
  25. Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear. I have read that some people have the have the BCM reprogrammed, and some worked just fine without. It's too cold here, but hopefully soon I can get under to see if it has the wires. I already have the dash switch, and I can get the lights dirt cheap at work, so hopefully I just need the relay.
