  1. Ya jack the truck up and trim one nub off the front mine are the same way at the moment fron when i dropped my truck Check your rears too if you havent cut them yet either I just have 2in drop shackles on the back for now and I cut one nub off and they were just barley off the axle so I just removed the mount that the rear bump stops are mounted too, all the mounting holes are already on the frame to mount the bump stops! So id reccomend just mounting the bump stops to the frame in the rear that way you never have to worry about them!
  2. Ive been having some strange low idle issues with my 03 SS the past few weeks its now idling at around 550rpms when in gear which seems a little low, I plan to look into it a little more this weekend and see what the issue could possibly be now that I have a little time on my hands but one member on here stated it might have something to do with the fuel pump, and I also read somewhere possibly on here that the 03s had an issue with fuel pumps? I could be wrong but anyways say my truck needs a fuel pump I think it would be pointless to spend around all that money on a stock fuel pump when in the spring I plan on doing some more mods and eventually mods that will require me to upgrade the fuel system anyways so instead of spending all that money on a OEM fuel pump can I run a walbro? They seem to be cheaper than an OEM one too I havent really looked into fuel pumps at all so Im not too familiar with them and wouldnt really now which walbro to get but would I be able to run one with the mods I have which are basic bolt tune etc. but no cam or anything like that? Or would it be too much, or is there a way to control it in the tune. Also would anything get complicated with the 03s having a return style fuel system? Or would that almost make things easier? I tried searching around but I couldnt really find to much info.
  3. I run the 285/50-20 nittos on stock rims I love them best tire ive ever bought. I was going to do the 305s but the sidewall bulges a little to much for my taste.
  4. The way I have the stero set up is I have the 4 gauge power cable running off the battery then it goes into a fuse/fuse holder then through the firewall and ran to the amp on the back wall behind the back seat. I had it set up just like that in my other silverado and I had no issues so thats why I ran it that way this time.
  5. Ya I was thinking it might have got a little oil on the MAF. As far as the gauge reading it reads at about 14 right in the middle of the gauge. Do you think if I were to bring it to the dealership theyd be able to hook their scanner up to the truck and theyd be able to tell if something electrical is acting up? Would a faulty ground cause something a low idle due to bad signals getting sent to the fuel pump etc.? How many grounds are on the SS and where are they all located? I figure it wouldnt hurt to check them!
  6. I dont personally have anything to test the battery no but Im sure I can find someone with all the right stuff. The air filter on my truck is a brand new K&N one so I dont think its anytihng to do with that. Im going to clean the MAF and maybe try some seafoam. The only thing that made me think maybe the battery doesnt have enough juice is because the problem started a few days after I installed my amp and sub so maybe the battery doesnt have enough juice to power everything it has too. I had optima yellow top on my 5.3 silverado and it was awesome. Im not sure of the specs on the battery thats in the truck now ill take a look in the morning when its light out.
  7. Ya I"ll check all that stuff. Would it be possible that the battery thats in it is too small? I bought the truck used back in september and I havent really looked into the specs on it. But now that I think about it the whole idle issue started happening only a few days after I hooked up my amp and subs in the truck, the battery looks on the new side but is there a possibility that it just doesnt have enough juice for the SS? And ive read some people use that seafoam stuff to clean out engine internals any idea how that stuff works? Or just use the lucas fuel additive?
  8. Ok it sounds easy enougfh. What did you end up doing to yours to make it idle normal?
  9. Ya I was thinking throttle body too, I cleaned that yesterday and it didnt really seem to help. I'll try the MAF though. How much of a pain is it to change the fuel filter? Anything important I need to know when changing it?
  10. I never thought about the fuel pump but thats a good thing to think about. I was also kind of doubting it would be the tune as well just because like you said they cant change themselves. Now would a bad ground cause something like this? Just incase where are the grounds located on the SS I know theres one under the hood but where are the others if there are others? It wouldnt hurt just to check those anyways.
  11. So latley ive been noticing my 03 SS has been randomly idling lower than normal like sometimes to the point where it seems like the truck shut off, sometimes it will dip below 500 rpms but then bounce right back up. I notice it more in real slow stop and go traffic like the other day I was driving though a parking lot and id be on the gas off the gas and when I would let off the idle would dip way down and my friend was with me and he noticed it too and thought my truck shut off so I had to drive double footed because it almost seemed if I didnt it would stall. Then I shut it off went in the store and it seemed to be normal. I also notice every morning when im in the dunkin donuts drive through my pacesetter Lts rattle on the frame on the passenger side so sometimes to make it not rattle when im in the drive through ill just hold the brake and give it a little throttle and it will stop the rattle but as soon as I let off the idle dips down to 500 rpms sometimes a little lower. It also seems to happen when im in the drive through and if I tap the breaks and the front of the truck tilts forward a little the rpms will also seem to drop. So I was thinking maybe my throttle body was dirty so this morning I cleaned that and there was some crud in there but then I just drove it and it didnt really seem to make a difference? Im not sure what else it could be. I was almost thinking something with my tune? I also thought something was up with my tranny because it would seem to get stuck in first or second gear and I brought it to my tranny guy and he hooked his scanner up and couldnt find anything wrong and he also brought up the fact that maybe something it funky with my PCM and that was what might be making my tranny act up since the problem with my tranny was very intermitant. The PCM is tuned by nelson performance and ive usually had really good luck with the PCMs he sends me but I have been thinking about giving Wheatley a call and having them do a PCM for me to try something different but I just dont feel like spending the extra money at the moment and I get free retunes from Nelson so I might just have to get another PCM from them. Id prefer to do nothing with the tune as of right now unless I have too because I plan on getting it street tuned in the spring but if my tune has something to do with my idle problems I guess I wont have much choice. But I just dont see how the tune can change itself all of a sudden because it was perfect when I got it done in september, basically im just looking for some ideas on what might be making my idle all funky! A little more info on the truck its an 03 SS with pacesetter Lts no cats custom 3in Y pipe then the tranny has a transgo hd-2 shift kit vette 1-2 servos and a sonnax billet 4th servo with a billet accumulator piston and a nelson tuned PCM.
  12. I personally think the Corsa sport is the best sounding muffler for the stock manifolds a magnaflow might be a little quiet with out some LTs. But on my old 5.3 silverado which had LTs as well I ran a flowmaster super 40 muffler single in dual out that exited before the rear tire and it sounded pretty good with the manifolds but once I put headers on it sucked. I dont think I would ever buy another flowmaster. Magnaflow is awesome quality and sound great with some Lts. The corsa sport however sounds amazing with the stock manifolds and sounds awesome with Lts as well as long as run hiflo cats or some type of small bullet muffler before it. So I say if you want something to sound awesome with the stock manifolds now and then want to upgrade to some Lts down the road and still sound good I say get a corsa sport! They are expensive but well worth it!
  13. If your Vmax is a 2wd im pretty sure you can use your Y pipe off of your 5.3. I had a 5.3 before my SS and the Y pipes were pretty much the same except of the fact that the 6.0 is dual in and it has a few different bends to clear the front drive shaft. But if your vmax is 2wd I would think you could just use your dynatech Y pipe from your 5.3. I have pacesetter Lts with a custom 3in Y pipe after the headers which I had made go 2 into 1 and it works awesome!
  14. I say 6.0 no matter what. In some ways your power goals with a 6.0 are pretty much endless where as a 5.3 your kind of limited as to what you can do. And some people struggle to get over 400 horse out of a 5.3 unless boosted or with out spending tons and tons of money where as a 6.0 you have tons of room to work with!
  15. Ya I love the way it looks int he over head console and I woulc easily make a plate to go in there to mount the gauge, I was looking at the gauge pod that ShakesVHO has but they were pretty pricey. How much of a pain in the a$$ would it be to run wires up to the over head console? How do I get the console it self and how do I get the wires up there??
  16. Ya i was thinking about putting it in the cubby to the left of the steering wheel but I was thinking it might be a little hard to see. Im trying to think of a way to put it in the top cubby in the console and make it look clean. Ive got some fiberglass and resin at the house so I was almost thinking of closing in the cubby and making it look like one surface then using a little bondo to make it smooth then paint it and then just cut a hole for the gauge. Im just thinking that might be alot of work. Then I was also thinking about putting it about the stock gauges themselves but im just not sure how I would mount it! But im open to any ideas so keep them coming!!
  17. I was contemplating putting it on the steering column, but I would actually kind of prefer to put it somewhere on the dash or in the console that way I can just look over at it instead of straight down
  18. Im going to be getting an aeroforce interceptor in the next couple weeks, just one for now and Im trying to decide where to mount it. I dont really want to mount it on the pillar just because its the only gauge I have right now and i think having just one gauge will look strange so I was thinking about mounting it on the dash somewhere either put it where the SS emblem is on the far side of the dash but I would like to keep the SS emblem there so I was thinking of removing the passenger air bad key switch and the one blank block and cutting out the peice of plastic below that space and get some plastic to fill the hold and just put the hole for the gauge in the plastic. My other thought was to put it in the top cubby in the console I actually use the bottom one to put stuff in so I would prefer to put it in the top one. Ive got a full machine shop right on the other side of the wall at work so making a custom plate wont be a problem, im just trying to get an idea of where to mount it! I did some searching on here but couldnt find to much so if anyone has pictures of their gauges mounted in the truck post up some pictures! Im open to any ideas!
  19. Ive turned it on and off but I havent done the full reset yet. But I'll try it in the morning! Thanks for the tip!
  20. Hopefully someone can give me an idea on whats goin on! Alright so my pioneer AVH4100dvd just stopped playing my Ipod today it did this samething in my 5.3 silverado the same night a drunk driver hit me head on going down the highway so I never got to find out what the issue was. So when I put the radio in my 03 SSS the only parts I used from the other truck were the radio and the PAC bose bypass harness and its been totally fine since I put it in I actually used a kenwood ipod cable this time just because I was having trouble finding the pioneer one but it works just fine. But basically what happend was I went out today and my ipod was playing just fine until it almost seemed like something skipped but then it kept on playing then pulled into a parking lot and changed the song and it and it just stopped playing sound like you can see it playing on the screen but no sound comes out then if I turn the volume up its just static and the louder I turn the volume up the louder the statis is so its almost like its not playing the audio? I tried unplugging everything pluged it all back in and still the same result but the radio works and the CD player will play a CD. Last weekend I wired up the truck for my amp and sub out of my old truck and hooked up my antenna adapter because I wasnt using the radio when I first put the radio in but I finally hooked it up and it worked fine all week so Im not sure if that has anything to do with it? One thought I was thinking is its cold here now in CT and I have the IPOD cable ran from the back of the radio down to under the center console and it runs near the heating ducts so I was almost wondering if the wire is really cold then once the heat warms up maybe condensation build up in the wire? Because when it did it in my old truck the night I got in my accident it was in the summer so it was really warm out and I had turned the AC on so maybe the wire was really warm from the hot air and when I turned the AC on it also created some sort of condensation? And Id say it took about the same amount of time each time for it to stop working. Another thought I had was maybe my Ipod is finally shitting the bed its about 4 years old so Im sure its on its last leg. The cable I have is one where it has a male USB end that plugs into the back of the radio and has a headphone style plug that also plugs into the back of the radio as well and I have it plugged into the AUX in port, then at the other it has the male end that plugs into the female end of the IPOD the non headphone style plug. Im going to try my friend IPOD tomorrow and see if it works but I just wasnt sure if someone had any idea on what might be going on!
  21. The proper way would be to bring them to a good autobody shop and have them tint them with a good spray gun. You can use that VHT night shades stuff you can get in a rattle can at any auto parts store but thats kind of a cheap way to do it and the quality usually isnt as good as if you were to have them done by a good body shop
  22. The dynomax X flow is a awesome choice magnaflow makes one kind of like it too you can check out the magnaflow website and they have a ton to choose from there. Also youtube is an awesome place to look for sounds of different mufflers.
  23. You can find a set of good stainless longtubes on ebay for cheaper than you can find shorties. Shorties wont give you cheap horsepower because they will barley give you horse power. If you want some more power do longtubes and a tune other wise your just wasting money. Replace the wires if the wires need to be replaced other wise do longtubes and a good tune
  24. Im not sure what any of it is really worth to someone so just feel free to make me an offer, Im pretty much open to any offer.
  25. As far as stock exhaust parts I have 2 sets of stock exhaust manifolds the stock SS muffler and tail pipe minus the tip and I might have someone possibly interested in the stock SS Y pipe and cats but I think I have another stock Y pipe laying around but its off a 5.3 silverado its semi similar I think so you might be able to make that work. And Im located in North Windham CT near the UCONN campus. But let me know what you need I might have some of it laying around!
