  1. Id go with the Stainless works, both brands are great headers but I think the stainless works fit a little bit better!
  2. Fireman pretty much answered my question Ive always been a big NGK guy so I think thats what Im going to go with and the taylor 409 wires, Ill make sure to get some pics too, Im a big fan of nice looking plug wires!!!
  3. Im planning on doing plugs and wires on my 03 SS and I was just wondering what everyone out there is running? I was running NGK TR55s the non iridium ones in my 5.3 silverado and I had good luck with them, but also want to hear what others are using. Also what do you reccomend for plug wires I want to do aftermarket wires so any suggestions on wires and where a good place to get them would be awesome!
  4. Alright so I bought an 03 SS used about a month ago and when I got it when Id reach around 85mph I could feel almost like a wabble or sloppy feeling which feels like its coming from the front of the truck kind of almost like a slipping feeling if that makes any sense? Well Since then I had a transgo HD2 shift kit put in, vette servo, billet 4th servo and accumulator piston and when my tranny guy was in there I had him change all the drivetrain fluids and he found nothing out of the ordinary anywhere, now the truck also has a CAI pacesetter coated LTs, a tune, then a custom exhaust after that with a magnaflow muffler. So tonight I got bored and decided to go out and just see how much faster the truck actually was with my new mods and I did some 45-90ish runs on the highway and on my second one when I was doing around 90-95 I could feel that sloppy feeling like almost like something was slipping or binding and wabbling and it almost like felt like something slipped or moved in someway at 95 so I let off and it seemed to be normal now to me it almost feels like a bad bearing somewhere but Im not sure where I was almost thinking wheel bearings? I bought the truck used so the tires on the truck arent the greatest the tread depth is fine but they are starting to dry rot hear and there as if the truck might have been sitting so maybe the tires have flat spots in them and I only really feel it at high speed? Im just pretty stumped, and I doubt the dealership would do anything with it even though its under warranty because it doesnt happen under normal driving speed and I bought it at carmax and they just flat out suck I was there thursday to have them replace a door molding peice and everyone in the waiting area had nothing good at all to say about the vehicles they bought there so I have a big feeling I might be on my own with this one. But im just looking for suggestions! Thanks alot! sorry for the long post!
  5. Im not 100% sure on the rotating assembly. I think its the same? But I could be wrong. You could also do a search on here or even sometimes wikipedia can give you some good information or someone else will chime in here that will know for sure!
  6. yes im pretty much 100% positive that its the same block just with iron heads. Someone else will chime in im sure but it should be the exact same block!
  7. Not sure how people here will take this since alot of people here are wheatley and blackbear fans but ive had very good luck with Nelson Performance as far as tuning goes and if your interested in a turbo set up check out their kit its not an STS style kit its mounted under the hood and as I personally have never ran one I have a few friends that have had very very good luck with the kit and have made great power with it, Allen the owner is an awesome guy and really knows his stuff so Id check them out! www.nelsonperformance.com.
  8. Corsa or magnaflow. The corsa is a little on the pricey side but their catback sounds awesome even with stock cats and stock manifolds. I run a magnaflow but also have LTs so it sounds awesome but have noticed that the magnaflows with stock manifolds and stock cats are a little on the quiet side.Corsa as just a catback sounds awesome and also sounds good with LTs aswell, Corsa is a great set up! Id stay away from flowmaster though I had one and I hated it! The only chambered muffler id think about running would be a hooker aerochamber. The best way to see what you like is search on youtube! I swear its near impossible to get the perfect sound unless you have tons of money to throw at trying one muffler then if you dont like it get another one but I used youtube to see whats out there! Good luck!
  9. Sounds like you made a good decision! The ceramic coated pacesetters I think are a really good header for the money! Im hoping to get my truck back from the guy I had to my exhaust I decided to go with the ceramic pacesetters then a custom 3in Y pipe with no cats then had it go 2 into 1 to a single in single out magnaflow 5X8 14in case magnaflow exited before the rear tire with the stock SS tip even with the body line, I had pretty much the same set up on my regular silverado and it sounded awesome so Im excited to see how it sounds on the SS!
  10. Ya I agree totally im the exact same way! I loved the way my bullet sounded at idle but hated it at WOT my magnaflow was a little quiet at idle but they do get louder with in bout a month or so once they break in a little but and I loved the sound at WOT of that magnaflow. Have you looked into one of these magnaflows? http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=8477 They sound good at idle especially with a cam and they are little bit more civil at WOT than the bullet. I havent had any expirence with the spintechs but ive heard some sound clips and the sound a little raspy and not as smooth. Its near impossible to find a perfect muffler ive been through a ton of them!
  11. I wouldnt really see an LS1 throttle body doing anything and say its a throttle body off an LS1 out of a trans am or camaro or firebird itd be alot of work because its a drive by cable throttle body where as your stock SS throttle body is drive by wire. Also what other mods do you have? The stock throttle bodys on these trucks are a decent size and I think it would be pretty much pointless to put a bigger throttle body on unless you have some serious horse power. Also as far as direct swaps go im not sure if theres any other 3 bolt GM throttle body thats worth the money to put on. You could switch to a different intake manifold with a 4 bolt design and might have more choice but then you get into messing with injectors and fuel lines and what not. If your dead set on doing something throttle body wise then Id port and polish the stock one, Ive heard some guys claim they notice better throttle responce from doing that. I just ported one for myself bt havent put it on yet. But like I said if your truck isnt a power house putting a huge throttle body on your truck wont really benifit you at all plus it would take a little bit of work. If you dont have many mods such as headers or electric fans a shift kit and servos in the tranny I would spend the money on those things and not a throttle body.
  12. If you get the pacesetters some of your choice are to buy just the headers and cut off your stock cats connect them to your stock Y pipe which might get a little tricky just because the pacesetter collectors are 3in and the stock exhaust piping is 2.75in (im pretty sure) so youd have to figure out a way to connect them which a good exhaust shop would be able to do it. Another choice you have is to buy the headers and the off road Y pipe and modify it to work. The pacesetter Y pipe is designed to work with the 5.3 silverados whic the exhaust goes 2 into 1 and goes to a single inlet muffler where as the Silverado SS has a dual inlet muffler so if you wanted to use the paceseter Y pipe youd have to cut it where the 2 pipes merge and run dual piping. Another choice which is the way Im doing it is to have a shop make you a custom 3in Y pipe to connect to the pacesetters 3in collectors and then make it a custom 2 into 1 set up then run custom 3in exhaust piping to the muffler then run the exhaust out infront of the rear tire with the stock SS tip. So basically to sum it up you cant use the pacesetter Off road Y pipe the way it comes you would have to cut it and modify it to work or to save money cut off your stock cats and run the stock exhaust set up to the pacesetters, or do like im doing and have a shop make you a custom Y pipe which im having the guy do it all in stainless so it wont rot the pacesetter Y pipe is just steel so unless you paint it in high heat paint it will eventually rot its a little more expensive to do all stainless but I think its worth it. And also depending on how much money you want to spend there are some other companies out there that make headers and Y pipes that come in a kit that will work but they are expensive, if you want to look into that check out stainless works, american racing headers, and check on ebay for some OBX ones, on ebay search silverado ss headers and they should be there! Hope this helps! Also you will need to get a retune to turn off your rear O2 sensors or else your CEL will come on and cause por performance and por gas mileage and possibly cause damage to the truck, and also with a good tune youll get the full benifits of your headers and other mods!
  13. I really like the AEM intake I mean all intakes pretty much flow the same and I dont think youd notice too much difference between either one, I had an airraid intake on my regular silverado and wasnt that impressed so when I got my SS I wanted to get the AEM but didnt want to spend all that money on a tube and a filter since technically the horsepower to money ratio with a CAI is a little off the wall meaning for the money you pay for most CAIs you dont get that much power so I bought a spectre CAI from summit for 140 bucks which is the exact same thing as the AEM minus the filter so Im just going to get a better filter eventually http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-9900/. Also if you look on ebay you can find some AEM knock offs for around 80 bucks but I just wouldnt trust the filters with those.
  14. The Dynomax bullets are going to be loud! Very loud! I had one on my regular silverado which had LT's and it sound awesome just cruising around but when you got on it it was just obnoxious it was just pure rasp and the drone it made made you want to rip your hair out it sounded like I had 8 15in subs in the truck just humming and resonating. Although I always thought that with a cam they would sound pretty sweet, but if your just only going to run the bullets be prepared to be loud at all times, but if you like it loud and can look past the horrible drone I think you will like them. Before I did the bullet I had a flowmaster system with a super 40 that cam out infront of the rear tire and it didnt sound bad with stock manifolds but when I put the headers on I was not impressed what so ever so I went to the bullet and it was just way to loud to drive daily and the drone was terrible so I switched to a 14in 5X8 magnaflow and I loved it It was some what quiet at crusing speeds which is good for the neighbors when I come home late at night but when you get on it it sounded awesome and I think it would sound even better with a cam!
  15. Especially not for $300.00 bucks. I'd try ebay, I think youll have better luck there!
  16. Ya I was thinking it might just be a cheap pad, but I am going to feel the rotor. Its just weird how it really only does it under slow braking and not under heavy braking. But ill go check that out! thanks alot!
  17. Thanks for all the good info! Im going to try to get back to the dealer and have them deal with it. Now im a little worried that they wont honor the warranty for the grinding/vibration that I feel when the RPMS are higher going around 85-90 mph just because those arent normal driving speeds but well see I guess! Thanks for the help!
  18. Alright so I just picked up an 03 SS from carmax here in CT to replace my regular silverado, It looks like all the brakes front and rear are close to brand new and there looks like theres a ton of meat on the pads and the rotors barley have any rust or wear, but theres an annoying squeak when braking but only during town driving they dont squeak at all during heavy braking, ive sprayed the rotors with brake cleaner and they still squeak it sounds like its only coming from the front. When I picked the truck up I noticed they went a little heavy on the tire shine so I thought maybe it was just over spray on the rotors and i have noticed that lines on the rotor not actual grooves in the rotor it self but lines as if the whole pad isnt touching the rotor but the truck stops totally fine so it kind of has me stumped. I havent had a chance to pull the wheel off yet and I still have a warranty through carmax but if Its a simple fix Id rather just fix it myself. Anyone have any ideas?
  19. Ya I never really thought about the gears. I also forgot to add in the first post that when I was getting on it on my street and got the RPMS up I could almost here and feel a slight clicking. I think im going to bring it back their sometime this week for the to replace a peice of weather strip on the door so Ill mention that. Im not really sure I trust the carmax mechanics but I guess they cant be to bad. The truck is also going to my tranny guy late next week to get a shift kit and servos installed so Ill have him take a look at it too and see what he thinks. Would the front dif needing to be rebuilt cause that slight grind/vibration I feel at higher than normal driving speeds? It seems to excelerate fine its just when your on it at around 80 and over I can feel it. But thanks for the fast help!
  20. Alright so I just picked up an 03 SS from Carmax yesterday to replace my other silverado that got totaled thanks to a drunk driver. Well since I got the truck Ive just kind of been putting it through its paces to make sure theres no issues before I start adding some go fast parts that way I can have them fixed under the warranty. Well tonight I was on the high way and noticed almost like a vibration/griding feeling coming from the front of the truck but its pretty much between say like 75 -90 mph I can feel it in the steering wheel but it doesnt really make a noise, although I could swear I almost hear a very very slight hum or growl when going slow but very slight maybe it does it all the time and I just cant hear it do to the normal noise of the vehicle? The truck is bone stock. This is the first AWD truck Ive ever owned so Im not sure whats normal and whats not but I feel like I shouldnt feel a grinding or vibration doing 90 since theres tons of you guys out there going faster than that so I figured Id ask the experts! Then another small issue is the brakes squeak pretty loud but not when slowing down from excessive speed mostly around town like stop light from stop light and when I picked the truck up yesterday I noticed they went a little heavy on the tire dressing so I thought maybe they got some on the rotor so I wiped them down with brake cleaner and they still squeak, from what I can see theres still plenty of meat left on all the pads so I dont see how it can be down to the wear tabs yet and the rotors look almost brand new! I did notice before I wiped them down with brake cleaner that you could almost see areas where the pad was touching and where it wasnt almost as if there was like something stuck between the pad an rotor making it so the entire pad wasnt touching the rotor but the truck doesnt have any problem stopping so Im not sure. If you guys have any advise Id really appeciate it! Other than these things I love the truck its definitly faster than the 5.3 silverado I had before and that one had longtubes and a tune!
  21. The truck looks awesome! What size tires are you running? I like the way they look!
  22. Alright I recently totaled my regular silverado thanks to a drunk driver driving the wrong way down the interstate hitting me head on and now I have an SS. I managed to get some of my audio stuff out of my old truck and I wanna put it in the SS. I have a Pioneer AVH4100DVD radio a rockford fosgate t400-2 amp and currently have a rockford P2 sub its not the shallow firing one its the bigger one and its just in your normal slant front inclosure and I just had it sitting on my back seat but I want to get an enclosure for under the back seat but Im somewhat leaning towards an enclosure that just goes under one side because I like having the storage under the seat. Im not not sure what sub to get? I have a 12 now and it used to sound good but it has 3 small cracks in the resin and I think thats making it sound like crap so I want to get a new one to go under my seat. I want it to thump pretty good and I wasnt sure if the shallow firing 12s will thump like a normal 12? And any reccomendations as far as brand?
  23. Ya pics would be awesome! And ya 3in might be over kit but Id prefer to have the growing room to add more power. I ran the 3in pacesetter Y pipe on my 5.3 Silverado and I liked it and didnt have any problems with it. Im just not sure if it will be just as expensive to use the stock piping. But basically if anyone has pictures that would be more than awesome! Thanks for the help so far!
  24. Alright I was just wondering if anyone out there who is running Longtubes has any pictures of their exhaust set up after the headers and to the muffler AWD SSS's would be perfect! Ive done some searching but couldnt really find to much in the way of pictures. Im just trying to get an idea of how I want to do mine I plan on getting a set of coated pacesetters like I had on my other silverado and I dont want to run cats. I was contemplating just trying to have the exhaust shop cut out the stock cats and mate the stock 2.75in piping to the collectors on the pacesetters but the collectors are 3in so that might be quite the gap. Then I was also thinking of just having my shop bend me up custom 3in piping from the headers to the muffler. After the muffler im just going to run a 3.5in pipe out before the rear tire with the stock exhaust tip even with the body line. But basically im just looking for ideas and especially pictures of anyone elses set ups! If there is a previous post with othe peoples pictures out there and I just missed it while I was searching maybe just show me the link. Thanks alot!
  25. And actually heres another one I just found while finding that one http://ocala.craigslist.org/pts/1825696539.html
