  1. I've looked at 3 in my area.2 were the same with about 140K and 11-11.5K will buy either one. They both drove perfect.Another 1 had 74K on it and he almost went for 15K but backed out.I think 17K would buy it, maybe even 16K.All the rest were over priced. One at a lot had a blower and a bunch of mods. They are asking 20K and no bites for 6 months.I think 18K would buy it.I've gone through all the sites and it seems you can get a 03-05 with 80K or less for anywhere from 12-16K.Most were too far to look at but I may be travelling soon. There are some good deals if you shop around. http://www.lemonfree.ca/map.php?pid=1&make=CHEVROLET&model=SILVERADO 1500 SS
  2. X2.Trans fluid should be nice and red not dark.It should not have a burnt smell.Dexcool should have been changed at 5 years. After that it gets acidic and eats away at gaskets.Lots of stories of GM cars loosing a motor once Dexcool got into the oil.Make sure the water reservoir does not have a mucky brown coating. That is oil mixed with coolant. As Mr P said ask if the chain in the transfer case has been changed at 60K.I would want to see a receipt for the work and of course receipts for oil changes especially synthetic shows an owner who did not cheap out.As in any other used car, running a magnet fridge card along body parts will show if it's been hit before. The magnet will not stick to Bondo. If you can get the past owner's # and call them. Most will be glad to tell you if it was a good or bad truck. If they say the trans or transfer case was replaced. That's a good thing if it has a lot of miles. If the owner agrees get a good mechanic to go over the truck.Hopefully not one recommended by the owner.Look for bad scrapes under the bedliner even though I don't think many owners would want you to start pulling it out.LOL.Lots of scrapes could mean the truck was well worked.Scratches on the roof and Nascar decals are also a bad thing.LOL Good luck.
  3. I am posting here for any members who have thought about selling but have never looked in the for sale section. I'm looking to buy a 03-05 Silverado SS with under 80K.I prefer black but will consider all.Looking to spend 10 - 14K.I also have a 99 Silverado that I may trade and cash.Close to Buffalo or Toronto preferred but will again consider all.PM or email [email protected] Thanks
  4. Thanks.I've search and can't find any better deals. If you find me one I will pay you a commission. Can you PM me your # ? Thanks Ken
  5. You're probably right about the 4L80E being the way to go for this kind of weight.I'm still in Vette mode and I wasn't considering the weight of these trucks. The guys name is Arun with the blue Z06 out of Toronto.I have no idea how many passes are on the car.Obviously he's not going to the track every weekend. He is a pro tuner and that has a lot to do with making the trans live. Most guys in this range have stepped up to a glide or the 4L80E but they need to cut the car up and spend big to get one in.
  6. Great article.Kenny is one of the best. He's built me 2 motors in the past.I flew him and Margie in for our local Buick day twice. That wasn't cheap but worth every penny. They are both real nice people. You need to note that they used the stock cam.As the article stated if you add a real cam and consequently a new tune you would see the LS6 and FAST intake start pull away.I hang with a bunch of guys who all make 800HP+ and a few that have broken 1000RWHP barrier.Nobody runs a truck intake. The LS6 intake in stock form works real well.I run the the LS2 intake but didn't really pickup that much power over an LS6.Modding the LS6 intake with a new inlet flange to accept a LS2 throttle body is the hot setup.I wouldn't waste my time porting the truck intake.I would leave it alone till I was ready to put a serious cam in the motor.Without the cam the motor won't show much with porting and it is time consuming and expensive.
  7. Check this out.You could even swap your mirror into what ever vehicle you chose for the day. http://radar-mirror.com/AEM.html
  8. Hey guys. Thanks for the welcome. The black GN was mine.Sold it a couple of years ago.
  9. Maybe something to do with trans pressure? I would think the pressure would be higher with cold fluid.
  10. I'm not sure about the Sss but the optimum for F bodys and C5s is 4.10 with a 26" tire for NA at the drags. If you had access to shorter tires it would give you an idea how it will feel before you drop the cash.
  11. Why do you want to change them?Stay away from Richmond.
  12. If you find a stronger rear that is a 8 lug couldn't you have the axles index drilled for 6 lugs?It would be easy to pull the axles while the rear was out.
  13. Find the best shop and don't worry if they are in NY or not.Performabuilt guaranties everything they build even if you are racing and even if you use a brake! That's tough to beat. You just need to pay the shipping.Talk to the owner Frank. He's on Yahoo chat all the time.Even late at night.
  14. If you are staying under 800RWHP I would go with the 4L65E.I have a RPM 4L60E StageV in my C5.It's good for 9.5s if your tune is right.I have a friend with the same trans and he has been running 9.0 for 3 years.Something a lot of peopl don't consider is the tune has a big affect on the life of the trans.
  15. I knew Jack before he opened his shop.He offered me a FAST system at cost just so he could make the buy in.Great guy.My 8 second GN ran 1.31 60s.I'm lucky to get a 1.50 out of the Vette. Thanks
  16. Well.I bought it.Wow.My first ride.Nice truck!
  17. Nice to meet you.I'll give you some details on the Vette soon.I've got some great stories. I thought the SS I was considering was gone but turns out it's still up for grabs.I know I shouldn't even consider it but being a Die Hard ,WTH. I hear ya on the traction deal.Even with Nitto DRs my C5 will rip the tires up at anything under 80MPH.Sometimes it's fun.Other times it's a pain.I was playing with a kid in a 08 Mustang one day.It looked like a possible low 12 second car.He gave it to me so bad from a roll that I just let off.I tried to coax him on to the highway but he wouldn't have anything to do with that. Anyway.I tried to PM you but I guess I'm too new.I guess I'll just have to hang my stupid ass out here and ask all the dumb questions before I go look at it on Saturday, later today. This truck is stock, not the one with the blower. It's an 03 with about 150K on the clock. .He's asking 13.5.I've already read the stories about the steering clunk and Dexcool. The transmission and transfer case will be my next concern.I think with those kinda miles this guy has been through everything.Other then the rust, what else should I look for?Hopefully he's had it oiled and has not driven it during the winter. If I don't like it I'm going to look at a black 03 LT with half the miles of the SS and it has a 5.3. It sounds mint and is less money. Thanks.
  18. Looks great!Nice house too.Have you got equalizer bars on your hitch? They leveled out my truck.I only use them on long hauls as my truck tows well without them.I actually found a brand new set of AC Delco air shocks on Fleebay.I got them for $60 for the pair new in the box. They work great and the ride is good too.I have also used air bags in the past and they also work well.
  19. Thanks for the good advice. When I talked about a replica SS I meant just doing the outside of the truck to look similar.I would never go all the way and upgrade the motor and suspension. Any reason you advised a 2005+ 2WD compared to the earlier models?I'm looking for a 2003-04 as nice ones are under 10K. Are you talking about tow mileage when you compared the 6.0 to a 5.3?I'd be surprised to see a 6.0 get as good mileage as a 5.3 not towing.Just as a side note.I have a 6.0 iron block with stock 317 heads in my C5.It's gone 144 in the 1/4 which will be 9.5s if I ever get it to hook.Best so far is 9.90s. I think I would buy an SS before adding a blower to a non SS Silverado. The 03 SS I was considering was going for 13.5 and had 150K on it.You are right. It's a buyers market right now.Nice C5s can be had for 15K right now. I hear ya on buying the blown SS.If it's not done right you can spend big to make it right.I wouldn't worry about buying it myself.I've owned my own shop for 25 years and I specialize in turbo GNs.I am close friends with 3 of the best tuners in the country. Don't get me wrong.I appreciate your advice.I'm just letting you know where I'm coming from. Take care and thanks.
  20. Hey guys. This is my second post.About a month ago I decided my 99 Sliverado was leaving too much debri in the driveway so I'm looking for a new DD.I've test driven about everything.Even a Titan:unsure: .Since I pull about 6000# I know I need some power and had pretty well decided on a 5.3 Silverado or Sierra. While doing a search I found a blown SS:drool: and a stock 03 SS.I know this is ludicous to even think about either one as a DD/tow vehicle but it sure would look good pulling my 9 second C5.Anyone pulling any serious weight and did you get more then 10 MPG?My other option is to by a black 03 Silverado 5.3 and add the SS externals. If I was rich the blown SS would be in my driveway right now. It's at a dealer and they are having trouble moving it.Also I need to consider we are covered in the white stuff 4 months of the year.Any thoughts?
