  1. It looks like this except it's all black!
  2. Nice find. Now all we need is to figure out which of the multiple choices it shows to find the one related to our trucks. Just kidding. Thanks
  3. Yes.I'm glad I did listen to you and glad I found this forum before I dropped. The guy with the black one called me back and said when he took the truck in to be certified that it needed $800 worth of work.He wanted me to pay that on top of the $11,700.I told him not a chance. Some people just have no idea what vehicles are worth.I'm fairly sure I was doing 65 when the tach read 2500.Even for 4.10s it still seemed high.I'm going to check it again.I know with GNs if you hold a steady speed on the highway and just touch the brake the RPMs will go up about 200 which shows the converter is locking up.I don't know if that test will work on the SSS.Coming home today around 60MPH the dash readout was saying 11-13MPG.Time for plugs wires and a tune.I should also check the O2 sensors to see that they are working ok. Thanks
  4. Nice wright up.I don't know if you built this for the cold air affect or ram/air pressure affect or both. The ram air part doesn't really show up till over 100 MPH.Great for a fast car that can get to 100 before half track but may not help much on slower trucks. As far as the cold air effect it should help and would work even better when tuned for that air.The 68-69 Oldsmobile 442s W30s picked their air up under the bumper which is probably closer to the ground then our trucks.Unless you are going for cowl induction then you really don't have much of a choice.Maybe some kind or scoop behind the grill.Pulling your headlight would probably be your best spot. The other part to consider is pulling all that air up a long hose before you get the pressure up.This might hurt you on the bottom were it's most important to your ET.I haven't had my truck long enough to study the stock air box.I think opening up the stock entrance hole to the outside would be were I would be looking for more power.I would never say don't bother trying it just because we have not heard any big gains from anyone else, but it is something to also consider. Most of the Vette and F Body guys just place their open filter in the front behind the grill with no shroud.I would love to hear you did get some positive results.Has anyone got any actual numbers on a before and after cold air kit at the track?
  5. VDO makes these little rubber covers for their gauge bulbs. They are only in red and green.
  6. I thought I read somewhere that the Canadian SSSs(can we get some more Ss in here;) ) had a few less or different options then the US trucks.I have a blank button just to the left of the headlight knob near the bottom. What is that for?
  7. No pics yet. It's been raining and snowing the last couple of days. Here is the original add.Not very good shots. Thanks http://getchev.autotrader.ca/certified/Chevrolet/2003-Chevrolet-Silverado+1500-722f21150a0a006401565e9ddbe40ee6.htm
  8. They are so easy to ship on a pallet. You really limit your sale by not shipping. Good luck.
  9. Maybe it's late and I need some sleep.I can't find the pics in your sig.
  10. Try Forward Air.It will be much cheaper.Strap them to a pallet and wrap with shrink wrap.
  11. Thanks for the info guys.I am considering a tune.I'm really not looking for any big power gains right now.Later I will be looking for mid 13s as long as it doesn't affect my mileage or dependability. We do have some great tuners in my area.I wondering how big a difference a mail order tune will be compared to a hands on tune.Did anyone out there get a mail order tune on a dead stocker and notice a big difference?Did you pick up any mileage?I would like to see a little more responsiveness from this truck off the line.I was hoping it would be quicker off the line.I could see were a converter would really make a difference. If I ever go that far I think I will upgrade to a 4L80E.I only like to do things once. What options were available for these trucks in 03?Mine does not have fog lights,XL radio or dual climate control. Is anyone happy with their aftermarket fog lights?I have noticed the leather seats do not allow you to slide out very easily.I've never had leather in a truck before and it feels like your jeans will wear it down eventually. Are there any products which will help here?I bought some Zaino cleaner and conditioner. It didn't help even though it cleans well and smells great.Another thing I want to do is replace some or the radio buttons as they are worn right through to white plastic. Are the buttons available separate or do I need to touch them up myself? The pre sets and volume button on the steering wheel are the worse. Thanks
  12. There is one up here in Toronto with a tire for $500.New.
  13. About 3 weeks ago I decided the ol 99 Silverado was looking a little rough and I needed a new ride.I started looking at some 99-2000 Silverados and Sierras.I found a couple that were very nice for around $5000.I found a 2003 Sierra 2 tone burgundy/silver that was mint and drove tight.$8000.I wanted a 5.3 RWD and that really narrowed the field. My GF woke me up and said "why are you looking at the old style"? She was right so I started to look at 2003 -2005.Still found some great deals.I considered some other brands just to get educated and even took out a Titan.I am a GM guy so I got back on track. While looking at some 03s I found a sSS.Most were more then I wanted to spend.I always thought these trucks were totally cosmetic until I did some research.I found one locally and I thought I'll just check it out for my own education. That was it.I was sold.the guy was asking 13.5K and it was a nice truck but high miles.133K.It also had a rust hole coming through on one of the front fenders.I got him down to 11.7K.I almost bought it but eventually passed on the deal. There were 4 in my area and were too much money.I found one at a GM dealer that was about 4 hours away.74K and they were asking 15.9K.It was red and I really wanted black.I called them up anyway.Small town dealer out in the country.I read people fairly well and the salesman sounded very honest.I acted stupid even though I am a part time mechanic. It was a one owner and the owner was over 60.The salesman even gave me the guys phone #.I asked what was the bottom dollar.I think he told me 14.5 and they needed to do $2000 worth of work to give me the GM warranty.I really wanted the warranty after all the horror stories I read about transfer cases and transmissions.I asked him how much as is no warranty.$13,330,taxes in.Taxes up here are 13%! I offered him 13K delivered. He said sure.Without taxes I was getting the truck for $11,535 and he told me if I found anything wrong that he didn't tell me then I could walk away when it was delivered. He was that confident in the truck. The owner had all his work done at this dealer.Everything.The truck was arriving at 11:30 this morning.Friday.I was excited but I was leary of the colour even though the history and price were perfect. My GF didn't like red either. You have to remember we are old. No flame to any of you red guys out there. The driver arrives at 11:15 and I go out to check out the truck.OMG!This thing is mint!Other then 3 nicks in the paint it's almost perfect.I go out for a test drive and it drives like new.I even like the red.I hand the guy the cheque and a $20 tip for lunch.Done. I've never owned a 4X4 and was concerned before I bought it about the ride.I have a bad back from all the trannys and BBC heads I have lifted out of an engine bay.I plug in a disc of Nickelback, crank it up and off I go.MY GF works about 30 miles away so I go to see her.She loves it.Again.She likes the red.If I ever drove my 99 without a pillow behind me I would be in lots of pain.I forgot the pillow and when I get out I feel great!I love this truck. Here are the only small things I don't like. I drove about 80 miles.1/4 tank to empty. When I got back and parked it the gauge said 1/4 which was were it was when I left.GREAT!When I come out later and start it up the low fuel light comes on and it reads empty.S#*t.Is GM ever going to figure out how to make a sender that lasts more then a couple of years?Plus. That was a lot of gas for 80 miles.I nailed it maybe 3 times for about 7 seconds. This thing is choppy over bumps. It feeels like the shocks are wrong for the truck even though it rides great on regular pavement.Steering clunk.I'll update the shaft soon.Coasting down hill with everything off you can hear a slight howl.Other people would not hear it but I do.The radio sounds great for factory but the reception is not the best.On the highway this thing is reving around 2500.I didn't think with the overdrive it would be that high.I'm gonna have to check to see if the lockup is working.Other then that I love this thing. Take care.
  14. Toronto Canada.$4.73 for a US gallon 91.With the exchange in the dollar that is very close to $5.00.You US guys have it good.Try dropping $120 for a full tank!Regular non synthetic oil is hard to find under $3.00.
  15. I hear ya.Tough time to sell.If the gas sky rockets like they predict then trucks and Hi Po cars will be worth even less.
  16. Well.I got them down to 13K as is no warranty delivered.
  17. I think OEM pads are the best for all round driving. It is true that they make less dust then cheaper brands.
  18. Nice write up.I wouldn't go crazy looking for a shroud/box for the filter. If you do a before and after test,I dought you would see any worth while difference.Once you are moving the outside cooler air is blowing the hot engine air back away from the filter. The box that comes with a lot of the cold air kits helps to keep the noice down.I've seen some very fast cars with wide open air filters that were a lot closer to the motor then this setup.
  19. That's a good deal.Taxs up here are 13%.
  20. OK Steve. So now you are admitting they get lousy mileage. Oh ya.2 marker bulbs! Take off the tax(this is Canadian pricing).$2175 total. They are using all GM parts.Labour is $85 per hour. Meinecke wants 2177.$1100 in parts and 10 hours labour.I'm not saying I will take their offer but if they do the work they have to stand by the warrentie for the whole truck. You know the old "Well you had the brakes done somewhere else and that is why the trans blew." The plus points are one old man owner,GM warrentie, all service records from GM,mint condition and country truck with hardly any city driving,Minus point. IT'S RED! Thanks for your concern. "
  21. That is a smoking deal but I need a stocker.I already own a race car. Thanks
  22. Red 03 1 owner truck.Owner is over 60 and a retiree. The truck is being sold from a GM dealer. They are asking 15,900.100,000 miles. It is almost mint and drives tight.,no paint work and cosmeticly almost perfect.Comes with a 90 day 5000 mile warrentie and you can return it within 2 weeks if you decide you don't like it.They offered it to me for 15,800 drive it away all taxs in.They are also going to do this work before I pick it up. Front and rear rotors and pads ,a/c belt and drive belt, 2 axle seals, left and right inner tie rod ends, e brake shoes and springs, 2 marker lights. It sounds like the steering shaft has not been updated and the transfer case chain has never been changed. They want $900 to do the chain. If I take the truck as is without all the work then it is $13,300. What do you think?I won't be insulted.
