  1. Yeah think the 6L80 is kind of out. Cause its really kind of at its limit right now anyways. Really kind of wanted to use it for pulling though its not going to be a lot of weight just 3000lb boat at max weight in the summer and a 4 place sled trailer in the winter at most. I have a few details to work out and I will do a post on what the plans are.
  2. For a build I am putting together, just in the planning stage right now. Just trying to decide how far to take it.........
  3. thanks for the link...... I just wasn't coming across anything that had any good solid info
  4. How much power has the 6L80 been rated to? Just curious cause I have not seen any clear cut limits.
  5. That is one sick truck you got! Nice work on all the things you put your personal touch on. Cant wait to see what you do next.
  6. You must have had a nice sounding system 1st at world finials impressive. Think that was the in that class also, I looked on their site and the classes have really changed. SQ is what we were really shooting for and it turned out that it had really good SLP also. We had all the component wires all the same length since they all had to come from back of the car. And used a DSP that had an auto tuning feature built into it. But yeah let me know when you have a meet. I would enjoy just coming to look at what everyone has done.
  7. back in 97 when we originally did the car there weren't all the choices that there is now for sound deading. And yes it was spendy! The first contest I hit 149.4 and then my setup guy got it up to 151.2 with the 4 subs. Earthquake wanted to sponsor me but then everything had to be earthquake that they made and I didn't want to go that route for SQ. I had got out of the competition seen when the 6 magma's got put in. Got married and went back to college after my accident. And as the rear fill goes .....your right its what I liked and what I wanted. Would do it again yes and plan to. Each to their own! We didn't use the cross overs with the components and bridged them to get more out of the amps. And then used some pro audio gear to separate the frequency to the components. I had no part in the design of that. Was told what was basically done and is what I used in my presentation. That is a lot of sound to try and keep it balanced.
  8. I use to do USAC competiitions and always did well........Ever since I got into it with my 93 T-Bird I was always invited to the Nationals since I did so well. But didn't have the funds to go that far. Have all first places except for 1 second place in the SPL and lost that by 1 point in my category. And was my second contest and forgot to start the car up for the SPL part of it.....never made that mistake again! And whoever said rear fill Sucks.....pffft oh not true. Most will say you don't need it. BUT it is what I always got complemented on how well it filled the rest of the system. I had two set of components in the front doors with a pair of tweeters. Then I molded a pair in the rearview mirror. And you can adjust the mirror to raise the level the sound is coming from. When a judge is listening to the SQ they are looking for the sound to be at ear level and that is what putting them behind the mirror can do and it bounces off the windshield. For bass I had 4 earthquake CP 12's in the trunk 2 facing forward and 2 rearward. and pair of BR 1070's in the rear deck. I then went to 6 magma's 3 forward and 3 rearward. At that point they really wanted to put me in the Pro class for whatever reason they didn't. With the first system it sounded just as good low as it did all out. Thanks for the idea gcosse will have to remember that one. I always did a lot of dynomat......you can never have to much....lol you could go down the road in this t-Bird with nothing on and you didn't hear no road noise at all. We did have to brace the trunk lid though cause it was literally lifting off and was loosing the sound pressure. I'll have to see if I can find my binder with some pics of it. for amps used all earthquake...... (2) 6600xm gold series, for the 10s (1) Bx1000 and for the 4 12's did (2) 42000Bx. When I went to the 6 magmas I sent the 2 amps out to Washington State and he modded them to get more out put out of them.
  9. Yeah they looked like a good fit and nice angles to them to get the highs up to you. Like the placement in them too....kind of out of the way of my feet......lol I like the fact that you can put two sets in them with one tweeter. Gonna probably get something built into the rearview mirror with a set of tweeters to help bring the sound up to ear level and help with imaging. And put a set of components in the back somewhere for year fill and imaging Gotta figure out how I'm going to put a set of 12's and a set of 10's for mid bass. Might have to build something to go below the floor level depending which sub I go with I run earthquake subs. Have a 2 sets of CP12's that do a nice tight bass but require 2 cubic feet for a sealed box or 12 magma's which are boomer sub but only 1 cubic foot of air space. And the 10's require 1 cubic foot. Idea also is to build something into the floor I was thinking and do an isobaric type box. You can put more to each sub that way also.
  10. Thanks jddmj and gcosse I could not find your post for the life of me again. So thank you both for the info. Those are what I exactly looking for. I'm a big sound nut.........HAS to sound good number 1!
  11. That is pretty much the same thing that I have come to also. I like the idea of EFI and being able to store muti tunes. But someone mentioned that HPTuners could do the same thing. So I'm thinking that I'm going to go HPTuners route. But thank you everyone for all your input.
  12. I'll give yeah a call tonight
  13. that part that was red that was mounted to the door. gonna have to find that post again and use it for reference cause I really liked how they were shaped and the angles to get the music up to you. Cant believe Im going to get back into make custom stuff again. After my last competition system I told myself I would buy prefab'ed ...... guess not.....lol
  14. I seen someone who had painted their component pod for the door red. Where did you get them from. Really like the design of them, but really don't want to go through the trouble of making a set. And hopefully the person who it was comes across this topic. Thanks, Patrick
  15. Man that sucks....and 1.5 tapper to it after 8,000 miles wow! But now you will know what it really has in it and should give you a lot of trouble free fun from now on. good luck on your build look forward to some pics......
  16. Really sucks that you have to sell them just to keep your head above water didn't realize that before. Kind of like my case they didn't have anything either and had a dramshop action against the bar and the sheriff had the cases of beer all of a sudden come up missing.......... to prove that they got it from that bar.
  17. Thx for the input good to know!
  18. Ok thx for the info gives me something to go on. I'll dig around and see what I can find.
  19. I see EFI Live is 800 bucks I think it was but comes with a data logger also. But also see they have no demo was really kind of curious about that one. Been awhile since I had looked at HP Tuners but think they have a demo mode in that one. Will have to take a serious look at that one.
  20. I was kind of leaning towards HPtuners or EFI LIve
  21. I've tuned my LT1 383 with LT1 Edit myself. I have someone who was able to answer questions when I had them and have learned quite a bit with doing that and just playing with it. I took the belt off the supercharger so I wouldn't have that to deal with and have learned quite a bit that way. Have a little bit more to get it fine tuned in SD mode. Its a pretty slow process when you config your tune then upload it into the ECU then data log go back and redue it since you are not able to live tune it. But I am by no where's a pro but not a total newbe either. I'd like to take those online courses sometime to just know a little bit more and to see if I am doing things correct. But was told I was doing good.....
  22. Oh man brother I feel for yeah.......hope you get better or have less problems in the future. I know when I had my accident back in 96 T-5 injury....they said I would be in rehab for 6 months min. I'm BULL S#*T I am 6 weeks and I was home. But I was a 6'1" 250lb meat head also so the strength I had really helped me out. Hope you can rehab and pray that you will be able to drive again one day! I don't know,,,,,,,, what I would have done if I still couldn't do the things I can still do. So I know somewhat of what your going through. Sure I miss walking; however, I still go help my Dad farm with what I can get into (4 wheel drive tractor and digger and in the fall I sit in the combine) boating, tubing, snowmobiling, my Comp T/A, and now my Silverado SS. Just adapt is about all you can do and push forward....... if you have a good friend you can still go raise some hell and he can drive ^^ nothing like a buddy raising hell with yeah! Just don't give up on yourself......ever! know what I mean........ Prayers brother P.S. Sweet rides by the way!
  23. What would be the best software to tune with? I know there are a lot of software packages out there for the 98+ OBD2 computers. Looking for tuning boost also.....
