  1. i think everyone who has served in the military at one time or another has felt the same way as you are right now. for some reason the over seas tour is nothing like state side. not just being in a strange country, but the hole attitude of just about everyone changes, some good and the rest bad. most of the troops there don't want to be there. stuck in some second, or third world s**t hole for a year or two with out family, good friends will take it's toll on just about anyone. i know, i spent over 7 years bouncing around in some of the worst places the Army could send someone, so i can relate to how your feeling. the command staff lost their control of discipline because they don't want to be their ether and their not in the lime light of a tit job state side, and the 1SGT is busting ball because he can get away with it, due to lack of command caring for their troops. your half way there, stay strong for yourself and your family. it only a matter of time until your a short timer counting down the days until your on that big freedom bird heading back to the world.. hang tough my friend..
  2. do you have a scanner to hook your truck up to? it could be a bad sending unit, or your gauge. what you could try is if you have access to a air compressor, take your fan shroud off and blow air thru your radiator core from the engine out. then flush with a garden hose. if no air, than flush real good with the hose.. you be surprised at the junk that can come out of their. dirt, dead bugs, leaves, all can cause your radiator to not work properly. good luck
  3. most times the carrier bearings were the issue. most have just replaced them with good luck. find a good shop that can rebuild front/rear diff.. after my fix i have put 59K and no issues. Jasper may be good but over priced IMO.. good luck
  4. it's like the old saying... knowledge is power.. and i'm only on 3.25 on the power meter.. this should help. we got new vehicle codes every year when i was towing. i always read thru it looking for changes that no one would ever tell us until we got busted by CHP.. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vc.htm
  5. from DMV Requirements after selling a vehicle. When selling a California registered vehicle, the registered owner of record must: Release ownership by signing on line one of the title. If the vehicle is, or was financed, the lienholder’s name appears in the legal owner section and their release with counter signature is required on line two. Provide the purchaser with evidence of a valid smog certification, if applicable. Smog certificates are good for 90 days from the date of inspection. The smog certification is not required if the owner or buyer signs a statement that smog certification was submitted with renewal fees within 90 days prior to the transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification). Recent legislation changed the requirements for vehicle transfers occurring on or after January 1, 2005. When you transfer a vehicle that is four or less model years old a smog certification will not be required. The four or less model years old rule does not apply to diesel powered vehicles. A smog transfer fee will be collected from the new owner. When a vehicle is more than four model years old, evidence of a current smog certification must be provided by a seller except when the following occurs: The transfer occurs between a spouse, domestic partner, sibling, child, parent, grandparent, or grandchild. A biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification). Provide the odometer mileage if the vehicle is less than 10 years old (Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form, REG 262). If the title does not have a designated space for this information, a REG 262 reporting the odometer mileage must be signed by both the seller and buyer. The REG 262 cannot be copied. An original must be submitted. To obtain a form by mail, call DMV's automated phone service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-777-0133. To speak to an operator call between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday, Pacific Standard Time, or pick one up from your local DMV. Protect Your Liability. Complete a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. The seller is responsible for reporting the change of ownership to DMV within 5 days from the date of sale. After DMV updates the information from the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability, you will be cleared from future liability on the vehicle. The purchaser is responsible for reporting the change of ownership to DMV within 10 days from the date of purchase the requirements of owner of record have been around since i was doing smog inspections back in the mid 80's. a lot of it was put into law to protect the buyer from having to pay out large sums of money to get a smog cert. also the motor vehicle code states "that the registered owner is responsible and liable for maintaining vehicles emission system in good working order .. it's the little things that can screw people. i would hate to buy a nice vehicle, pay good money for it, and find out that i have to spend a couple thousand $$$ more to get it to pass smog good luck...and not trying to be a A$$.. :laugh
  6. try here..it's in PDF format and may take a little time to down load. file's about 46 MB.. http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/docs/Tahoe/2003-Chevrolet-Tahoe.pdf hope this helps
  7. if you are buying it the seller is required to have it smoged prier to sale. per CA law. the Gibson headers should have the CARB # on the headers. you could call Volant and see if you can get a replacement Carb sticker. the cat back has nothing to do with the inspection, as long as the cats, and O2's are in stock factory location. i have TOG's mid's, Volant, Gibson cat back, tune, and i pass every time. i would try another shop. one who knows what their looking at...now..were your HC/CO good? and your ready lights off..
  8. i like the AWD. when i got mine that's all we could get. i was living in NY at the time and needed a 4X4 or AWD to get around in winter. now living in the high desert in SoCal i still enjoy it. we can still get a bit of snow up here at over 2500' alt but it still rains, about 3-4" per year. when it dose rain the roads are slick as hell due to sometimes it may not rain for 3-4 month at a time so it helps a lot. but down where you are snow not an issue and 2wd should do you OK. but like said it's a personal preference..
  9. check your drain tube, it may be clogged only allowing a small amount of water to drain out..
  10. the EPA shut them down. stating that they were in violation of Federal law for tampering with Federal emission systems.. i guess the fines, and possible jail time was not worth it..
  11. and just think what we would pay if we didn't have to pay the over weight fee.. mines $154.00
  12. i would have said something a little more colorful than holy crap.. just think how many boots and hat bands you could make out of him..
  13. i kinda get the green foam, but if i wait until the 8-30-11 to pay, i still have an extra $74.00 to pay..that's what i'm pissed about. we should get a free 30 days for all the tax we get raped on.... thanks
  14. any one get their renewal yet? i just got mine today that is due on 7-31-11 mine states .. Total due on or before 07-31-2011 $295.00 late payment postmarked. renewal after 07-31-11 through 08-10-11 $337.00 after 08-10-11 through 08-30-11 $369.00 after 08-30-11 through 10-29-11 $486.00 maybe i'm getting old and have a hard time comprehending somethings, BUT WHERE IS THE GRACE PERIOD.. you still have to pay on the date due, or pay the late fees..a grace period to me means not having to pay extra until after that time..WHAT and to top it all off, truck needs smog cert.. if it's not one thing it's another.. ...

  19. depending on where your coming from.. i live just east of Barstow, and i average about 1/2 tank down there, and less than a 1/2 tank back home. i can avg. 15-17 mpg @ 70 but the biggest killer is north bound I-15 at the Baker grade..11-12 going south back home the killer is Mountain Pass, after that it's all down hill..
  20. thanks for the info. i was wondering where my renewal was seeing mine expires on 7-31. i agree it sucks not knowing ahead if time what your fee's are going to be, but at least we get 30 days to find a 7-11 to get enough money to pay this Extortion they call California vehicle registration...
