  1. just what i was thinking, the ss took his chances and lost....you win some you lose some. Good job Brad
  2. The most i tow is a 16.5 foot fishing boat with like 250-300 lbs of tongue weight, and some fishing rods. And at that time i can switch to my 295/50/20's(31.6" tall) Brad
  3. here is what it looks like with a diff. rim. http://www.streetsourcemag.com/ViewOwnerPr...Profileid=34127 i was concerned about the side wall..or lack there of, to. for the life of me i can't remember my rpm at the quarter, but i'm pretty sure that the truck shifts into 3rd at 85 and i cross the lights at 93mph so i must have a whole lot of 3rd gear left? Brad
  4. do you think the tire size is extreme because of the small side wall or because of gear ratio? I'm thinking with the converter as tight as it is it might work out right?? right now i have i have the volant cai with ram air, pcm tuned in person by Frank and zippy, underdrive pulley, TEA stage 2.5 heads 69cc and a comp cam. No one thinks the load rating will be a problem? Thanks Brad
  5. not having a traction problem yet, my stall is way to tight. like around 22-2400. but going from a 31.6" tire to a 27.7" i don't know what to expect. The only reason i thought the kumho would have better traction was the solid bands in the center, looks like a slick in that area. Brad
  6. Hey guys, i just bought a new set of 20" rims to race with(and i know i'll be doing a lot of street driving to), but now i need to pick out the best tire for my application. I narrowed it down to 2 tires, the Kumho ECSTA SPT, and the General Exclaim UHP. Both tires come in 245/40/20 (27.7x9.6) and are priced with in 3 bucks. I like the Kumho better, from the looks of the tread it would seem to have the best traction on the track, it also has a lower tread wear rating so it should be a softer compound to(320 vs. 380). The main reason i'm thinking of the general is the load rating. Both of these tires are car tires not truck tires so their load ratings are low to begin with. I'm not going to be towing with these tires so not worried about that, but the load rating worries me a little to begin with. The Kumho is 1521lbs and the general is 1708lbs. The general is about 3lbs per tire lighter to. So what do you guys think??? Should i even worry at all? what tire do you like? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...del=Exclaim+UHP http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...Model=ECSTA+SPT thanks!!!!! Brad
  7. good to see you back Zippy!!! i heard you spent some time in mine to, how'd you like it. Track opens in month so i should be able to get you and frank some numbers Brad
  8. Ohhhhhh, 19 pounds? Sounds nice... which rims are those? http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deal...icle&data=3] They are the centerline tomahawk series- stingray III and its a forged rim. I called them up to see if they had any overstock and they told me they are running new production on a ultralite series of this rim. They told me 19lbs per rim is what they are planning on.....so i just ordered a set tonight. It a 20x8.5 rim with a 5" back spacing, so it's the same as our stock rims. I told them i doubted they could make a 19lbs 20" rim so he said they would call me before they ship to me with the exact weight of the rim, and if it's over 19lbs i can cancel the order. He said their first runs of the new style was a little heavier so they are redoing the design to make weight. 3-4weeks to get them. does any one see a problem with putting a 245/40/20 rim on these? thats 27.7"x9.6". I'm a little worried that the side wall might not be big enough.....not sure if that causes any problems. if all works out, the rims will weigh 19lbs and the tires weight 30. so i should be at 49lbs per wheel. Brad
  9. all those mods are done to an SS? then i am interested to
  10. what size rim are you trying to run. 16's/17's/18's/20/s? I'm kind trying to get the best of every world. I'm looking for the lightest 17,18 or 20" rims with the lightest tires around 28 or 29" and still trying to keep it as cheap as possible.... I found tire sizes close to what i want for all the above rim sizes but then trying to find an inexpensive rim for that tire is killing me. I just found a set of 20" rims that weight 19lbs each and only cost 160 a rim, but it's hard to find an inexpensive tire(or any tire) that is only 28-29" tall for a 20"rim. there are a couple of more options in car tires, but they don't seem to be rates to even hold the weight of the truck. for example the kumho ecsta spt 245/50/18 Brad well even if its only rated at 1600 per load, multiplied by 4 and your truck cant weight more than 6400 pounds. i thought of that but i don't know how much weight is on the front tires compared to the back? or how much weight is on the tires during a fast turn. i like to hit the s shaped on ramps pretty hard and don't need a blow out during a turn. But it seems i might be going that way. the kumho SPT tires offer the best size at 27.7 tall and only weigh 30 lbs. Brad

  12. any one know if it is safe to run a car tire that is only rated at like 1600 lbs max load. I'm having trouble finding an affordable tire/rim combo that has around a 28 or 29" diameter. Thanks Brad
  13. i'm running 14.34 right now. I think a 5 tenths drop with head and cam flowing through stock manifolds is respectable.....and to top it off my converter hasn't loosened up with the extra power, still stalling at 2200-2400. Don't get me wrong though...id kiss the track if the dam thing runs 13.5 Hope to see you guys there, i'll be there at opening time Brad
  14. thanks for the reply, i'm checking into rims and tires right now, it looks awful expensive no matter which way i go. I did find some 20" rims that weigh 19lbs though. Brad
  15. do you have to ask? you know i'll be there....trying for a 13.8 pass this time out Be there Saturday. Brad
  16. Yes. the formula you wrote says to me "if a 4.10-geared vehicle with 29" tires swapped to 31.6" tires it's new effective ratio would be 3.76:1", which is factually correct... what is it again you want to find out? i guess i was looking for the side by side gear ratio difference between the 2 tire sizes. So the net ratio on the 29" tire is going to be a 4.468:1 ratio and the 31.6 tire is 3.76:1 final ratio. I was looking for this comparison to decide what tire size would be the equivalent of changing to 4.56 gears in the truck. I read that changing the gears is not cost effective compared to reducing the tire size. And with 2 pcm's i should be able to have one set for my current tires size and one for the racing tire size. Thanks Brad
  17. would you expect the same with a 3200? It's starting to sound like i should use my 10.5 and have it restalled to 3000
  18. New effective ratio = current ratio * current diameter / new diameter example: n = 4.10 * 31.6 / 29 = 4.468 Mr. P. Mr P, i think that went over my head, or at least so far. Is that saying with a 29" tire my gear ratio will be a 4.468:1? do you reverse that to find out what your current is? n=4.10 * 29 / 31.6 =3.76? sorry, i just didn't get it? thanks Brad
  19. any one know, or have a ratio calc. for what a 28" or 29" tire would do to my ratio with a 4.10 gear set. I'm running a 31.6 right now. Thanks Brad
  20. i bow down before the king of do it yourself instructions! Brad
  21. "for all the answers click here"  great sig
  22. i second that, Frank is the best to work with! Brad
  23. do you run a additional cooler. Can i replace my stock cooler and add another in line? I drive my truck a lot, like 15,000 miles a year, but i would really like the 3200 9.5". Do you think there will be much difference between the 9.5 3200 and my 10.5 at a lose 3000( i think 3000 is the highest they stall them). what kind of tranny temps do you run on the street? or what do you consider a high temp? I'm tossing up going with 28-29" tall tires on a 17" rim. I think 17 is the smallest i can go with the SS brakes. I'm AWD so i don't think traction will be a problem......i hope any one know what is lighter the chrome 17's or the AL ones? The chrome 17's are all over ebay for a decent price, but i want the lightest combo... Thanks Brad
