  1. Thanks to Ben's advice, Zippy's advice, and Beserker's troubles, I will be pulling the intake manifold and starter/dipstick to get everything out of the way that I can. I also purchased a tranny jack adapter for my floor jack. We'll see how well that works as long as it gets here this week like Harbor Freight said it would. Countdown until this Saturday...
  2. I've always liked the wide open GMC shells with custom mesh grills. It looks really nice with the SS bumber too!
  3. Wow, that's a nice retro looking flopper. Is it a restored original, or all new? Brings back memories of being in Vern Moats' garage as a kid and seeing his top alcohol funny car. I remember one time we were down there, and the crew was fabricating a frame to put a blown Hemi into a Vega street car! BTW, what class do you run in?
  4. What kind of exhaust was that? It sounded a little throaty...
  5. Was anyone able to find their seat cushion after the spin? I've spun at 90-100 MPH before coming out of a long sweeper on a road course and that had a huge pucker factor...
  6. But that's not to say you *have to* mold it in. Most roll pan installs are done at home, but with a body shop doing the paint work.
  7. so, ahh....alright then. i'm gonna go hop in my finished truck that has 2 L7's now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I knew I wanted 12" L7's, I would have built them in there by raising the seat. The problem is, I have 6 sub setups to choose from that are left over from other systems. I have 3 JL Audio 8W6's, 2 10" McCauley DVC 1800 watt subs, a 12" Alpine type R, a 12" Solobaric (10 year old series 1), a 12" L7 (brand new closeout for 100 bucks), and 2 10" DVC Orion XTR's (that are also about 10 years old). The wood I have is cheap when compared to the upholstery work that will be done and buying a prebuilt box that costs me 6 times what the wood costs me would not fit my needs. Especially one that doesn't have enough room to fit my feet on the floor when the front seats are all the way back. The 12" L7 will not fit in the room provided, and still fit those needs.
  8. I wish there was a way to fit some 315-335's on the back of those cars without getting into suspension reconstruction or wide body kits. Those aftermarket rims would look so much better in an 18 by 10... not to mention how much better it would perform in a straight line. I was reeeeeeeeeal close to buying one of those at the year end clearance. They bumped my GM card earnings up to 5000, added to the cuts the dealers were putting on these babies, I could have walked out the door for around 21 grand. The wife didn't like the styling though, and truthfully, neither do I... until they get modified. I'm glad to see your bro is doing something about it to make it worthy of the GTO moniker.
  9. I used to drive my '76 Chevette like that back when I was 16 years old... Don't laugh to hard though... In 1987, I think I may have inadvertently started the engine swap/compact car craze with my 2.3L Vega engine swap... It had a Comp Cams camshaft and a 390 cfm Holley 4 barrel carb too, making 180 RWHP in a 2300 pound car. I had my driver's licence a whole 6 months before it was suspended... and then suspended again for driving (like a maniac) while still on suspension. I didn't get my license back until one week before graduating high school in May 1990. I bet you can guess how many dates I got on my Huffy 12 speed... Great video though. Glad I never saw it back then, it would have given me more ideas than I already had!
  10. I just waxed my truck today with "Rick's Best" from Prevettes. He runs the detailing shop next door and has his own line of products... I stripped the truck with dish washing soap, then clay bar with "Rick's Best" quick detailer as lube, then his surface prep cleaner (helps the wax get a better grip on the paint surface), then one coat of his wax/sealant. I'm very happy with the results compared to McQuire's, Eagle 1 nano, and compared to the price of Zaino and DER, this stuff is a steal! I just went to shoot this quick vid of the shine... http://www.bnmotorsports.com/ss_shine.wmv
  11. Oops, I just thought you actually owned one since your sig has a black one in it and I've seen you burn out in several...
  12. That's a nice looking Z! I've been tempted to get one and put a 408 (or larger) in it for a toy...
  13. Well, you guys fixed some of the front end problems, now just get rid of the bubble butt problem and we might have a winner...
  14. My mom wasn't the greatest cook, so I always looked forward to eating Grandma's cooking... Her scaloped potatoes were always better than everyone else's... slow roasted beef... SLURP! My mouth is watering now... need... meat and 'taters...
  15. Side profile I don't think it looks to bad, but that front 3/4 shot makes it look for sure. The rear "haunches" make it look like the fugly Colorado and that front end missed the boat BIG TIME! Design-wise, I can't see any one single direction someone was trying to go with that front end at all... It's not retro, it's not contemporary, it's not boring, it doesn't look to be done for safety... it's just all hacked together, WTF!?!?!?!?!?! Interior could use some work... I really like the current Ford F150 dash layout in my borther-in-law's truck and wished they had copied that design somewhat. Oh well, like P said, it just makes me like my truck more!
  16. Thanks for the tips! As for taking the intake off, does that improve reaching the top tranny to engine bolts, or does it do something else?
  17. Perhaps in the rally style wheel. The plain ones that I had picked up would have cut through the caliper brackets before it would have fit... The rears would have fit fine, but the front's = no way.
  18. Sent you a PM. Also, it looks like I had my numbers off. The 2250 was the SX series amp (the big one with the fan), the HCCA amp that was the same in high current clothes was the 2100HCCA with the fan. The 250HCCA was the same as the 2150SX, and the 225HCCA was the same as the 275SX... Then there was the 250SX, of which there was no HCCA equiv. Ahhhhhhhh, the good old days...
  19. Ahhhhh, the second series HCCA with the controls sitting under the name panel. Nice! The 250 = no fan, the 2250 = big fan.
  20. Are you talking about something that you can tune yourself, a handheld tuner, or were you talking someone to tune it for you as these guys thought? If the first, I really like EFILive, though I don't own it yet. It looks to be feature rich and has a lot of similar controls to other tuners I have used in the past. I will own it someday... Handheld = don't bother Someone to tune it for you = Bryan at pcmforless.com or PM Zippy on here. Both have had rave reviews and continue to get good customer service raves on these boards. Both also own SS's too...
  21. 2150 SX?!?!?! The black/brushed aluminum housing? How much? I have one of them now and would love to have another as long as it's in good shape... Also, I've been known to fix amps from time to time. I just had to put in new RCA connections on my 2150SX to get it worthy of going into my SS (and I have another Phoenix Gold SX350 that needs the same thing, plus a new fan). I could take a look at anyone's amp as long as they paid the shipping... Sounds like it may be time to set up the test bench again... Oh, BTW, the HCCA 2250 had the fan, same as the 2500SX. The HCCA 250 is basically the 2150SX in the high current form, just like the HCCA 225 was the 275SX in high current clothes. There was also a 250SX that didn't have a high current HCCA version...
  22. You can't run two of those speakers bridged 4 Ohm... If you run the voice coils in series, they end up being 4 Ohm speakers... You would then have to run the speakers in series as well, which = 8 Ohm bridged. You can't run them in parallell because that would be a 2 Ohm circuit = beyond the capabilities of your amp. Your only other option would be to run 4 Ohm stereo setup (one off of each channel), but that would require that the speakers are in separate housings (unless you have a mono signal coming from the deck or signal processor)... Either way, it's not going to be that loud with that little of power running through them. Would have made better use of the power to go with dual 4 Ohm voice coils instead of dual 2 Ohm ones...
  23. Just FYI to all, even the 16" steel rims from 98 and older don't fit. The back side of the rim curves in waaaaaaay to soon and hits the brake caliper.
