  1. I run Exxon Superflow in my SS. Been running it since I bought the truck brand new and changing it out when the oil-life-monitor reaches between 5-10%. The filter is changed at every oil change interval and the truck has 74,000 miles. I can get around 6500 miles between oil changes this way. I have yet to have to add any oil between the standard intervals and I forsee driving this truck well into the 100k+ mile range.

For my truck, I don't see the point of bearing the added expense of running synthetic or changing it at the 3k mile interval when its not required. It just adds to my overall cost of ownership and I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. The way I look at it is synthetic now is good for the next guy to whom I sell the truck. If its a worn out POS at 200k miles, then it'll be someone elses problem.

  2. Today we had rain out the wazoo and I didn't drive the truck anywhere until this evening. It sat outside in the rain all day. So I get in the truck to pick my son up from school and it hasn't been raining for a couple of hours now and as I'm driving, the seat heaters start cycling through all of the settings including off over and over. I couldn't get them to stay off. It did this for the whole trip. So that rules out the inside door switches getting moisture in them. The water has to be getting into the wiring inside the door I'm thinking. :dunno:

  3. Like title says, seat heaters have been coming on without touching the door switches. This has happened a few times before. I'm driving along and all of a sudden I feel heat on my back and butt. Look at door and buttons they are lit up. Always seems to do this when its raining. Wondering if door panel getting soaked might be the cause? It doesn't seem like they get that wet??! :dunno:

  4. Hate to say it, but most of us better get used to getting smoked. Its insane the power levels they are getting out of these little 4's and 6's. Who woulda thunk it?? :banghead::dunno:

I'm sure that most folks lifestyle on here dictates that they drive a pick-up. I know I would rather be driving a much lighter car with the better power/weight ratio, but I got s#!+ to haul. :ughdance:

  5. How about an "If you like <insert band>, then you'll like <insert band>" format for people who already have a lot of knowledge and can make recommendations? Or someone looking to discover new music could list a band they like and ask others to list similar sounding bands in their replies?? I'm always looking for new music too. I use LastFM.com a lot.

I like a lot of new rock, but I also like old bands like Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Dokken...etc. Some newer bands I like have a retro sound to them to me.

In This Moment - The Dream - To me, this album is a pretty good tip of the hat to 80's hair metal. I can hear hair metal influences in nearly every song on this album. All of their other albums are more screamo (not a fan), so they don't work for me. But this one is a fave of mine. Its different because there is a (hot) female singing lead and they actually do old school guitar riffs in most of the songs. Other bands I think have a retro style to them: Jet Black Stare, Halestorm, Airbourne, Black Tide, Silvertide, The Vines and Endeverafter.

If you like Breaking Benjamin and Trapt, check out Depswa,

, Digital Summer, Kill Hannah, Lo-Pro, Mad At Gravity, Ra (more than one; look for the rock band), Submersed, Audiovent (read somewhere lead singer and Incubus lead singer are brothers) and Burn Season.

Just straight-up rock and roll: Cavo, Dead By Sunrise (Chester Bennington from Linkin Park), Default, Alter Bridge, Anberlin, Greenwheel, Jimmy Eat World, Outspoken, Porcupine Tree,

, Rev Theory, Revis, Smile Empty Soul, Social Code
    ,
, The Veer Union, Trust Company and
    .
  6. Just replaced my General Grabber UHPs (295/50/20) today with the Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus (305/50/20). Way more comfortable tire than the Generals. I knew the truck rode stiff with the UHPs, but I didn't realize just how bad until today. The truck rides so much smoother and quieter. The handling seems tighter and more responsive now too. The other thing I noticed is my truck doesn't wander all over the highway like it did with the Generals. That may just be because the Coopers are new and not broken in yet.

So far I'm very impressed.:fingersx:

  7. when i was in dubai i saw some crazy stuff i saw a lady in a BMW take out a curb at 35 mph, a phantom 2 that had wash me written on its back window and not to mention those people already do some crazy driving

Man, if I drove a POS, I'd ram their ass and leave them bottom side up on the hwy. Sounded like everybody around them was pissed with all the horn blowing.

  8. A lot of the time its not just the size of the wheel, but the design of the wheel. Your wheels have a classic look with the 6-spokes. I think they look great on your truck! Its all about being proportional to the vehicle. Now 26's on a car - ain't feelin' it.

  9. I Voted yes. We like to think of our trucks as some diety worthy of worship, and I do love my truck! But its just a truck in the end.

I remember my prom back in '87. My parents had an '86 Monte Carlo SS. The car was maroon with the '81 Z-28 wheels. I still have a thing for them cars to this day. My folks let me take it to my prom and I was in hog heaven although I did drive it fairly regularly. My car was a hail damaged 84 Camaro with peeling paint, so the image improvement was substantial.

The value of your sons memories from this experience will far exceed the monetary value of your truck. I guarantee it. I know its hard to get past the personal connection to your truck, but its also an opportunity to test/gain trust between father and son. Everything else you have insurance for. Just set lots of rules up front. Lots of verbal banter will assure that there are no misunderstandings about your expectations.

  10. Got her back from the body shop today. Good as new! :dbanana: Man, I'm scared its gonna happen again. I take everything out of the truck now when I park it. I can't get it in the garage at night because I keep my boat, quads and all my lawn equipment in there, so it has to sit outside. Damn metro living. Growining up we had barns and sheds to keep all that stuff in. :nopity:

Now I gotta save my pennies so I can get an alarm and replace my mp3 player and get new tires for this biotch and.........! Crap, it never ends!

  11. When I went to load it in the SS it barely fit. Kinda had to drive up and over the wheel wells.

Congrats on the new machine! A word of advice though. If you're using an aluminum ramp to load/unload the quad, be sure you use the straps to secure the ramp.

One day I was loading my KFX700 into the truck in the driveway and I thought, meh, just riding it up into the truck. I don't need the straps. Well, my front tire hit the wheel well and the rear tires spit the ramp out from under the quad. Holy S***, the quad nearly ripped the tailgate off the truck! My tailgate cap is now kinda loose and the inside edge is chewed up pretty good. It came close to tipping over backward too. Damn thing weighs 500lbs. :idiot:

  12. I've been looking into Yokohoma Prada Spec X's an they seem to be a pretty good tire for the money. But I'm still shopping as well. Anyone have opinions? I'm also not sure what size i should stick with. qhat do you guys recommend?

I'm running 295/50/20 on my stock 20" wheels. I've heard others say you can get away with 305/50/20 on the stock wheel, but they rub slightly when the steering wheel is turned to the stops.

    Photos of the 295/50/20s. Link

  13. I've noticed a lot of opinion on these tire posts. A lot of the time they are from people who haven't had the brand for very long. They are giving only initial impressions. I think it would be helpful to myself and others if there were a post that gives long-term experiences with the different tire brands.

Feel free to jump in with your own personal experiences. I only ask that you give feedback where you have long-term experience. No new tire experiences, please.

Driving style: Semi-aggressive. No one-wheel peels. Occasional straight line 1-2 gear sprints.

Here is my personal review and cross comparisons of the factory GY's and the Grabber UHPs I'm currently running.

Factory Good Years - Decent ride quality; a little squirrely in the traction department. Not much wheel protection due to sidewall design. Managed to get 39k out of them before starting to have hydroplaning issues.

General Grabber UHP's - Very good looking tire with directional tread pattern; harsh ride quality :shakehead: . Upgraded to a 295/50/20 over stock size GY's. Has built in wheel protection due to bead design. Excellent traction and wet weather performance. Didn't get expected life out of the tire. I have 25k on them and nearly down to the wear bars. Would not recommend them to anyone due to wear issue. Looking to replace soon!

  14. its so damn easy to break into these trucks.

You ain't kidding! They just punched thru the sheet metal and popped the linkage from the outside. My ole "factory alarm" didn't stand a chance. Might have just as well have put the key in the door and unlocked it for them.

I know its just a truck, but dang it I think I could shoot someone with a clean conscience for breaking into my s#!+! My wife said, "what if it were a teenager?" I said well, I don't know. Gimme a gun and lets find out. What would ya'll do if you caught 'em breaking in?
