  1. I guess since I have already owned one before, and noticed a difference in the performance over a week is why I would say that. Usually it means getting the rest of whatever octane fuel you had out of the vehicle and going with a higher octane, that the tables change on dual tunes. Now since this is a straight 91/91 tune, your right, it may be straight out of the box....But I kinda doubt it, since there is 89 octane fuel in there now, I will more than likely have some detonation with the fuel tables being calculated for 91 octane, and would also have other factors such as if I were towing, outside air temp, temp of the engine, etc... Yes I know what you mean, I have read other forums where people claim huge power differences over a week or month. Personally I found with a dual tune that there was a difference when I had the old "cruddy octane" gas in there, until after the first or tank of premium.....
  2. So my Nelson tune comes in today for the SS. I had one on my '04 2500HD crew cab and it made a hell of a difference on that. A few times I could smoke the 285's on it I spoke with Nelson and decided to go with the 91 octane tune. He said the next thing I need to do, is get the servo and a shift kit, then we can wipe torque management out of the tune and lessen the shift firmness, since the kit will take care of that. Will let you all know how it goes. Should take about 4 or 5 days for the computer to really respond nicely.
  3. Years ago I owned a detail shop. We had a detail on a semi just like that. Here is what you will probably need to do and a rough estimate on your cost: Degreaser (Malco Red Thunder is great!!) 2 gallons, approx $25.00 If you don't own a pressure washer or have one readily available, expect to pay around $30.00 at the car wash to get all the bugs and road tar off the truck 1/2 gallon of chrome polish $20.00 Tire coat (Malco Blue Blazes) 1 gallon $15.00 Zaino kit $90.00 This is a rough estimate, but you'll probably need around $180.00 in chemicals and car wash cash once all is said and done. Then you can expect around 14-16 hours for the detail work. We used to charge $225.00 for semis. That was for labor alone and back in 1995. I would not be afraid to charge $450.00 for everything (including chemicals) Just my $.02
  4. Just checking your times...Are these in the 1/8th or 1/4 mile.... If 1/4 mile, that would be pretty hard to imagine a Maxima in the 10's with no engine mods.... As far as the trucks I would choose: 1. SS 2. SRT 3. Would never buy a Ford..Sorry....
  5. I heard this morning on the news that he suffered liver damage and his skin started peeling off in spots....Wow....
  6. I have the same one on my '03 and love it. Very durable, I've had it for just over 1 year. If it will quit raining here long enough, I'll get some pics..
  7. Actually it starts on high and then goes medium and then low.... is your truck still under warrenty? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It has a few more months then factory is out but I bought the extended to 2009 or 75,000...I'll run it over to the shop and have them look at it..I already have a list for them....
  8. Im just wondering if the driver info center has a bug or something....I guess I could have hit the warmer button, but it goes to high heat when it does that..Don't you normally have to push it 3 times to get it to high?
  9. Yeah Im the only one that drives it, so I have #1 key fob with me all the time...The other one hangs on the key board inside... Also do any of you notice that when you take corners, that there is a noise from the front end somewhere, like it's taking power off of the front wheels so they dont bind up on the pavement?? Or is this another demon???
  10. I looked at that also in the driver info center and shut it off....Im starting to get worried...Maybe take the truck to confession ??
  11. I've had my '03 SS for about 2 weeks now. I have been noticing that things have been turning on and off by themselves. Like my drivers seat...Sometimes when I get in, the seat has moved to another position. The back will be moved forward a little, or the whole seat will be forward a little more than normal. So I hit the auto memory button and it goes back to where it's supposed to... and the auto door unlock feature...I have set it so that all doors open when in park. More than once. But somehow, it changes to a different setting, like only open driver when in park... And the driver side seat warmer....It's 68 degrees outside and I went to run a errand, and the damn seat warmer came on by itself at it's warmest setting...Im driving down the road thinking to myself, damn, it's getting warm in here !! Anyone else had this problem???
  12. We hav'nt had the judging yet, supposed to happen this Weds....That will give me enough time to put on another coat of Z2 ZFX. Course I've already got 3 coats of it on now. The claybar makes a big difference. It feels like glass now when you run your hand across the paint. I did'nt think it was doing anything at first. It looks like it was just painted and still wet.....
  13. I started the Zaino project yesterday and finished today. All I can say is, if you have not done it, get to it !!! This stuff is sick !! I don't have any pics yet, but I'll try and get some this week.
  14. The 1 chamber flowmasters are really meant for race only, just to pass some of the NHRA and IHRA rules for certain classes. They do not offer very much backpressure, if any. Pretty much a straight through design with no interals to speak of. You would be better off going with a 2 chamber version, they are plenty loud. Try something like the original 30 or 40 series. I run 3" 40 series on my chevelle, and I can be heard coming from 5 blocks away.... Don't get the delta flow versions either, they are quieter, had the 50 series delta flow on a dodge ram, did'nt sound much better than stock.
  15. Im not sure on that one...I just purchased a '03 SS with 29,000 miles, onstar, Xm, loaded, for $24,000....
  16. I'll call it a 'medium' pad, not a finishing pad but not a truly aggressive cutting pad either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah that looks really good. I've never been a fan of foam pads, but Im thinking I'll try on my black truck, then use the zaino system from there....
  17. Zaino reccomends that you purchase 100% cotton bath towels, only made in USA to remove the polosh, wash your vehicle, dry it, etc. To me this seems a little insane, since your going to have around $60.00 in towels only, that will last (from what they say) only a year or so. I was always a firm believer in the cloth baby diapers for polishing, which are a heck of alot cheaper. What do you all think, is it worth the $60.00 in towels, does it make that much difference? They say it has something to do with the backing on the towels, that can scratch the paint... What does everyone else use??
  18. Nice looking finish...Did you use a finish or cutting pad???
  19. Were supposed to have the vehicles finished for the weekly cruise night in Des Moines, which will be next Weds. I was planning on starting on the truck this weekend. Is there any problem with doing, say the box of the truck this weekend then the other half Weds morning sometime? Other than if I were to splash some of the Dawn soap while I was washing the cab, would be the only thing I can think of. Otherwise I could do it Weds, but im afraid I'll run out of time...Also I have a high speed buffer still, along with a hand orbital. Im thinking the finish on the truck is pretty good right now, not big scratches to speak of. Just the spider webs on the hood and very little on the sides. So maybe I'll run the orbital over it once before I start the whole process with some finess-It, or I think I've got some Meguiars Scratch-X and Swirl remover...Or should I just go ahead and do the high speed buffer on it, just adjust the RPM's a little lower
  20. MisterP that was exactly what I was looking for !!! Thanks a million, when I get my winning 12 pack I'll have a soda for you
  21. Since I've been on the board (newbie) I have been hearing quite a bit of talk about the Zaino products and how good they are. A couple buddys and I were talking last night about the product. I was telling them all the success stories that I've been reading and how alot of people are impressed with their vehicles turnout. One of them said "oh that new fangled crap can't do any better than Turtle Wax." "Go ahead and get your little clay bar and your fancy waxes, then when you screw your nice truck up, call me and we'll fix it the right way" So, the gauntlet has been flung. Since I used to work in a detail shop (no a professional detail shop, not the local gas station kind ) and so did my buddy that is making fun of Zaino, I stood my ground and challenged him. I said "Your on, I bet I can detail my truck better with the Zaino product, then you can with your old school glazes and your old school Johnson Paste Wax crud." So here it is: Im taking my Black '03 SS and detailing it with the Zaino setup ( I ordered the basic $90.00 kit, should be here this week) and my buddy is detailing a friends Black '99 Vette. The winner gets a 12 pack of soda and bragging rights. If anyone has any insider tips on the Zaino system and putting it on, let me know. I have never used the stuff before, but was'nt going to stand there and run his jaw without a challenge. We're supposed to have our vehicles done in a week, then appear at a local car show for judging. So let's hear from you all who've used Zaino (Especially those with Black vehicles!!) on what to watch out for and some techniques) Thanks !!!
  22. Very sorry to hear about your friend. I got out of the bike scene a few years ago because I was too tempted to see what my bike would do....
