I am the assistant manager, small-job mechanic, construction engineer, landscaper, telecommunication engineer, and truck driver for a fairly large children's camp here on cape cod. My father has been involved at this camp for over 50 years (as a camper and employee), and I have been involved here since before I was born. They pay my bills to go to school, keep me up on my American Red Cross lifeguarding/water safety/cpr/first aid/small craft safety/and aed certifications, and I meet people from all over the world through them. I have done just about every job I could do there (short of accounting, not a big fan of knowing how much money is going where), and I hope someday to be the general grounds manager there...

it isn't incredibly glamorous, but imo a good work environment (very friendly co-workers, super flexible hours, and job security) outweighs a job that doesn't have those conveniences but pays higher.

I make do with the bills... In a few years i'll be off hourly and on to salary (hello 6-digit income), and I'll be working towards my early retirement.

i'm a cable maintanence/splice service technician for Verizon. going on 14 years in November. spend my days chasing telephone and T1 circuit troubles in manholes and/or on poles. used to get a ton of overtime, but those days are long gone now. I'm outside all day. rain or shine, snow, hot or cold. i'm on the road all day and not trapped in a cube so that makes me happy. the GPS in the truck does not though. big brother is always watching. up here we are a 100% union shop. our contract is up next Aug and it isn't looking so good right now. might have some unpaid time off at that point.

the first week I had the SS

Nice. I'm an attorney and freelance TV reporter. I'm thinking of adding IRS agent to my resume so I can go for the trifecta of most hated professions. Hours are horrible but the money makes it all better.

Funny stories from work? We don't have a thread big enough.

I currently look for terrorists and shoplifters at the Happiest Place on Earth (that's the Disneyland Resort for anyone not on this planet). Another way of saying it is Security Special Services (Disney-ese for Loss Prevention). I'm the lead trainer for that department of Security. In a couple of weeks I'll be starting my new role at Disney as Intelligence Specialist, Security Special Services. In this role, I basically surf the internet and telivision looking for terrorism or safety related issues that may effect the Resort or the Anaheim, CA area. It's a 0600-1430, M-F desk job and very easy money IMO. Next September, I'll start my career as a high school history teacher. Oh yeah, I am also a part-time announcer at California Dragway when I'm not racing. Before anyone asks, yes, I get free tickets and discounts at Disneyland. PM me if you're ever planning a trip there and I'll see what I can do.
