  1. Very cool looking truck! I like the color and I like the ride height! I wish my truck wasn't so low, sucks driving here in the winter when you get 1 foot of snow at once I can't even get around the yard AWD or no AWD my SS is stuck! My truck is a previous total loss. I bought it from a guy in my hometown that picked it up in the states. Came from Texas originally, everything looked good on it so I didn't care about the PTL. The more I drive the more things I find wrong with it. The truck was supposedly in an accident in Dec of 2003 and had "passed inspection" afterwards. Let me tell you this, it SHOULD NEVER have passed. Frame is curved like a banana, RF tire is an inch further back than the left, bottomed out so hard the left rear bump stop made a dent in the frame. Stuff that wasn't easy to see upon first looking at it, and being that a guy in town was selling it I wasn't concerned to much. It was the first SS I saw for sale near me and I wanted it very badly. I knew the damage was done to the front, but seeing as how it was inspected in the US and also when it came into Canada it had to pass a mechanical and structural safety I thought I was safe and the truck would be fine. Its really hard to sell it here because it says "previous total loss" on the registration, and personally I don't think I would want to sell it and have someone else be in the same boat I was in. My alignment is good now after 3 trips to the shop and once to a frame place I'm not worried about it and will drive it until it dies or the unforseen happens and I smash it. Would I buy a smashed vehicle again? Hell no. But seeing as yours was hit in the back it probably will be fine, but I recommend look very closely and have someone else look all over the frame for a bend or twist in it!!!!!
  2. Just got stopped about 2 hrs ago. $115 for having tint. Never made me pull off the tint in front of him, nor do I have to prove that I ever take it off. I was sure I would have to stop by cop shop showing that I removed it? I've had the truck almost 2 yrs and thats the first time ever being stopped, oh well there is a first time for everything
  3. How hard was it to deaden the roof? Where did you get the material and approx how much was it? I think that is what my truck needs next.
  4. Going to pick up a Alpine CDA-9887 cd player tomorrow. Went and listened to a pair of Focal 165kr's ($700cnd) and a pair of 165krx2's ($1500cnd) yesterday. The x2's are amazing, unfortunately there isn't much choice for me here to listen to them all and hear what I like. Will make a decision once I get the CD player in and working. Just gonna go with 1 pair for the doors and get something for the rears if need be. Maybe tomorrow I will get a picture of the 4 10's under the back seat. They were really cheap, they are PG radial SD's. 350rms each. Box was built in a hurry so I could have a bit of boom while going on a 3800km trip. I'll see how they sound with an aftermarket CD player and not the stock one with the rEQ.
  5. I am not running an EQ. Maybe that is something I should look into as well.
  6. Hawkman, which alpines do you have? Type R? The 4x6 must be type s correct? I have not found any other alpine 4x6 other than the type s. I have only ever ran Alpine and PG. Never had 1 problem with anything alpine. I am open to trying something different though. I'm watching a set of Focals on ebay right now so we'll see what happens in the next day.
  7. Been searching the forum and looks like we can fit 2 6.5's in each door? Alpine type x 6.5" SPX-17REF Polk Audio MOMO MM6 Focal 165 V1 I have 150rms per pair power to work with for the door speakers. I want something clear and loud. Doesn't have to have much bass as I have 4 10's for that. I mainly listen to metal and rock, but an occasional country song here and there as well. Now is there any benefit in getting a little bit cheaper set like say $150 each and get 2 pairs and have 2 in each door? Or just get one little bit better quality set? I'm running 4 PG radial SD 10" under the back seat in a sealed box. Back seat is lifted up 2". I'm running the stock BOSE cd player with an rEQ for now. Will be upgrading to a Alpine DVD or cd player when I purchase the components. Guy at the stereo shop is trying to talk me into a Kenwood CD player (KDC-X693). I've only ever had Alpine cd players and had great luck with them and great sound quality.
  8. Make sure you put the center link back in correctly!!! I was the gopher and was picking up the parts to do new idler arm, pitment arm, and both inner tierods last december. My brother was installing it and we did an alignment by the eye until we got it to the dealership to get done. They fixed it up, however they f'ed up with the camber somehow, not sure why they even started adjusting that. Anyway after the alignment it drove perfect until I started to turn a corner, my outside wheel would leave a HUGE black mark on the road. Looking at it from the front the wheels turned the same amount, when the inside should turn slightly sharper. Took it to a frame shop to look at it incase it had a bent frame, they noticed the centerlink was upside down. Anyway I'm sure you won't put it in backwards, I fought with my front steering for six months and wore out my front tires pretty bad. It was a dumb mistake with a simple fix.
  9. What kind of gains is there to be had with doing the 408 while using stock heads? I imagine you need to update the cam and injectors? Would you gain more with a good set of heads on the stock bore and stroke vs the 408 running stock heads. Curious for my truck, but also because this summer I will be starting a 1970 GTO frame off restoration. I'm thinking about just installing a newer fuel injected motor instead of rebuilding the Pontiac 400. I plan on driving the car during the summers and hope to make 20mpg or more with a 4 speed auto and the right gearing. It is not going to be a garage queen. It will likely not be drive able for a year or two or three or four lol, as money is tight.
  10. Your in Saskatoon right? Are you going to use the Grabber UHP's for winter? I'm curious to see how well they do. If I sell my sled in the next couple weeks I might be interested.
  11. Wow did I almost get into trouble today while reading this. I was bored in my Remote Sensing university class today and was browsing SSS and was reading this and burst out laughing. I had to turn off my laptop because I couldn't stop laughing, professor was looking right at me. Thought she was going to say something, luckily she never!
  12. mine was the compressor was grounded out by a mechanic last summer and the compressor would not cycle.
  13. Well I never ran the truck. I went and watched yesterday. It was a "Big Jackpot Race" so I would have for sure got 1 race in and if I lost I would have been out. Didn't want to spend $50 on that considering I don't have a dial in time and I have never ran before. It was a blast watching, lots of cars in the 10 sec range. One car did 7.89 sec and 170+ mph. It was pretty awesome, I've never seen anything that fast. I still think a stock ss has pretty good "set you back in the seat" power. I can't imagine driving something in the 11 or 12 second range Looks like next sunday and the sunday after the are having test and tune both weekends so as long as harvest is kinda wrapped up I will be able to run on the 27th.
  14. I get so nervous even at a red light when someone pulls up beside me. I'm always worried they will wanna race and I"ll have to beat them haha. Spare tire is out, sub box will come out, take off endgate and maybe hidden hitch if I get ambitious. Rear seat comes out in less than a minute so that might come out to. Should trop a few hundred pounds?
  15. Yes new compressor and new orifice tube/screen. Unfortunately will be next weekend before the video.
  16. Well this weekend there is 1/4 mile drags on Saturday and Sunday. I want to enter but I am a bit nervous. I have only watched 1/4 mile drags at this raceway once and it was last year. I watched 1/8 mile twice at a different track. Just a bit scared about the lineups and stuff. Do they kinda wave and point to what lanes to go in? And match you up against someone fairly? Its bracket racing so I know it doesn't matter if your up against a faster person. We get 2 time trials. Then the bracket racing starts. Can anyone give me some pointers on racing? I am not going to brake stall as I can feel seat of the pants its faster without. I just have CAI and flowmaster and zippy tune. I am kinda hoping to atleast be under 15.0 with my lack of 1/4 skills haha. The waterbox, do us AWD guys just go around it? Any tricks to staging? What about the lights? I know with many races and practice you'll get good at the lights. I am hoping this will be my first of many many many races I go to. Just a little nervous the first time.
  17. Will do, I will get some gauges on it on the 20th of Sept. Thats when I go home next. I was watching the gauges after the guy filled the system and saw them go up and down. The high side gets up to 200psi when it cuts out. But I never thought of taking a video of it, I should have I had my camera there in the truck. Got an infrared thermo as well so the temps I will get for you as well. By the way, I have not installed the TBTC I bought off you a while back yet. I probably should its sitting there anyway.
  18. Ya they can be taken out. Before I took the truck into GM we disconnected the line and cleaned it. After it was cleaned it did circulate a bit better and the lines got colder, but at that time the compressor would not cut in with the HVAC switch I had to use my switch I hotwired in. They supposedly put a new orifice tube in when I took it in but who knows. I should have probably asked for the old one back to see if they even put the new one in.
  19. I will check these as soon as I can get to a multimeter. I left home back to University so next time I'm home or I can get to my brothers work I will check why it cuts out. I was watching a bit when the mechanic was draining and recharging the system and the high would get up to almost 200psi and then it would drop. I wasn't paying attention if thats exactly when the clutch was disengaging but I'm sure it was. I will check it out as soon as I can.
  20. I had it in 2 weeks ago when the compressor and accumulator was installed. Last week it was back there because after I was told the high pressure sensor was my problem I bought it and replaced it to find there was no change. They discharged it and recharged it 3 times the last time I was there. The mechanic couldn't figure out why it would cycle so quickly. He checked 3 times to make sure there was 1.6lbs in the system. It had not leaked out after the first visit there. That readout was after I put the new sensor. I unplugged it to check the voltage to find it was 4.84 volts. Before I replaced the sensor it would once in a while read the wrong temp. After I checked the voltage it is way out. Right now when I start the truck it says 0 C. Doesn't even read anything. I'm so sick of GM parts. This sensor will be going back for a new one. I replaced the low pressure sensor about 3 months ago and it was actually a faulty one. After the guy put another new one in my truck last week the compressor finally turned on with the button in the HVAC module. So I assume this is another shitty sensor. My dealer finally told me the second time I was there they don't have a clue why it cycles so quickly and why it does not blow cool air. It really sucks there isn't any good mechanics working for GM in my area. Its very disappointing.
  21. Its reading 4.84 volts. I have a switch to make the compressor stay on for more than 3 seconds and when I turn it on so the compressor cannot cycle it still will not get cold. I have only used it for a minute at a time, just for testing purposes. The only line that gets cold is the one with both high and low side valves. Just tried pinching off the heater lines as well. The big line coming from the compressor gets cool but not cold. Still the air coming out of all the vents is the same as outside air temperature. I thought the sensor on the drivers side was only for the rear view mirror temperature? The temperature says -7 celcius and its about +25celcius right now.
  22. My trruck is showing code B0159 outside air temp sensor circuit range/performance. I have had a lot of trouble with the a/c compressor not cutting in. Compressor seized so I replaced it and the accumulator and got a flush/recharge done. New high pressure sensor and low pressure sensor. Now the compressor will kick in when you use the button in the HVAC module in the dash. But it will cycle on for 3 seconds and shut off for 45 seconds, then it will cycle on for 3 seconds and off for 45 seconds. The lines are not very cold but they are cool. Blows heat in all vents. I can't find the ambient air temp sensor on my truck. Isn't it supposed to be under the passenger side headlights? I can't find the sensor so I bought a new one and there isn't even any wires that it should plug into? Can someone tell me where the sensor is supposed to be? I have auto climate control in the truck as well. I was advised a few weeks ago that the blender door is working properly, the dealer had the Tech2 hooked up and said it was fine.
  23. I know what you mean. My dash is flaking, driver seat leather is wore through, radio buttons are white, heated seat buttons are missing their color. Steering wheel is not smooth, the plastic around the steering wheel between the dash and steering wheel does not snap into place anymore. The holders where the window buttons are are both busted, or loose. My Dad has a 1997 chev with 310,000kms and the interior is perfect compared to my truck. And Dad's truck is used as a farm truck, greasy coveralls, hands covered in grease and gas often, always dusty and dirty, rarely cleaned. Seems these new vehicles are made WAY to cheaply. The amount of electrical problems I have had since I bought my truck makes me wish I had a 1986 Chev 4x4. We'll see after my 3500km trip the next 10 days how my truck works otherwise it will be gone down the road!
  24. Haha $700 for the whole fuse box plus install. This is exactly why my truck will never go to that dealership again. It was there last year and they f'ed up. I am going to B.C. (+35 celcius) on Friday and have no a/c. My Dad insisted it get looked at. I was at work with my car and he took my truck in. I told him not to take it anywhere, dealerships around here are good for nothing. Sucks my brother doesn't work for GM anymore, used to have access to the GM scan tools, wheel alignment rack, a/c gauges, tranny flushes, anything I needed. This loose fuse I don't think will fix my circulation problem, I am on my way outside to get it tight.
