  1. Sounds to me like you still have it hooked up wrong. A stock cam will create the most vacuum at idle. I don't know if I read your setup right or not. Is it vented or a sealed can? If it is a non-vented can, you should have a fresh air into the passenger side valve cover (out of your air filter, I prefer to put a breather on the oil fill), and then run a line out of the pcv port on the drivers side valve cover to the "in" side of the catch can. Then on the "out" side run it to the manifold, but in this line you will need a check valve. The check valve is really only needed with a boosted system but is a good failsafe. After doing this, you will need to cap off the line from the throttle body to the drivers side valve cover also.
  2. Incredibly clean!! The biggest thing I hate about turbo setups is trying to make everything look clean. That looks amazing! You guys did an excellent job! Can't wait to see how it runs. It will definitely rip! I had a stock intake and cam with my 76mm and went 12.2x's @12-13psi with meth. Good Job!
  3. It is too bad that they don't make the carpeted Catch-All mats any more. They matched the interior awesome and looked like factory.
  4. For off the shelf rods I like scat rods. But again. Just my opinion.
  5. I'm no expert. But I have always gone along the lines of never going over .030 with boost. Other wise the cylinder walls can get weak. But I could be full of it. I know there is guys out there that are .060 with boost. Common size is .030 though. And for pistons. I think it is preference. I have had diamonds and weisco's. Both have done a good job. What happened? Over boost? Go lean? Kinda curious if you figured it out.
  6. oK, something is fishy. I would pull your wastegate off and hook the top port up to a vacuum pump. Like a brake bleeder pump. And see how much pressure it takes for the wastegate to start cracking open. Generally wastegates don't open at the exact spring pressure. For example, if you had a 10psi spring it might start cracking open at 8 or 9 psi. That is the next step I would take. If the waste gate is opening and closing properly you probably have something a little more serious wrong with the setup.
  7. Huh. Next I would check your wastegate setup. Doesn't make any sense. Do you have a boost controller?
  8. That's a pretty big turbine. I have 408ci and a t4 s480 with an 87mm turbine and a 1.25 a/r and I start really building boost around 3300rpm. I find it pretty crazy you cant spool the turbo until 35mph? Where is your boost gauge referenced at? I am guessing it is off the manifold. Which would mean you have a huge boost leak between the turbo and the manifold. Again. There is 100 million different things it could be with out seeing it. Just start with the basics.
  9. Sounds to me like a vacuum line routing issue. How do you have the lines ran to the wastegate? But it could be lots of things. If this is your first turbo build, why do you have a 17# spring to start? That's a pretty big a/r also? 87mm turbine wheel?
  10. Now that there is snow on the ground here. He is working on finishing this thing up again. Oh well!

    l92 in ss?

Isn't the L76 the 6.2 truck engine? I guess I don't know the engine code on my 2012 Silverado. It has the 6.2 in it and I thought it was a l76? If that is the case, the truck accessories should bolt right on and clear everything wouldn't it?
  12. My truck sat for the last 2 years. I finally got it all together again. I had just about forgotten how much fun it was. Just have to make the time sometime to put it back together! Congratz! Nothing to do with your hobby is a waste. Hell, I even enjoy the banter on here sometimes.
  13. I have been harassing him constantly! He is burned out on this thing. I am going to take him for a ride in mine this week and re-motivate him!

    My turbo build

Interesting. I hope I don't have to go to 18psi to get low 11's. I have had mine running for about 3 weeks. I really haven't had crap for time to get it tuned. Zippy has been helping me with the tuning. I made it down to the track with NO real tuning done and ran the truck at 3-4psi. It wouldn't build boost off the line, and it was shutting down in 3rd gear. LOL! ran a 13.5. After getting the bugs worked out, and I have to boost up to about 6-7psi it now feels about like my old setup did at 14 psi. I am hoping to see low 11's at 14-15psi. The 408 definitely pulls hard! How are you running 18psi? E-85? Race gas? Pump and Meth? Just curious. I only have access to 90octane and I have a good supply of Meth. So that is my venue. I am hoping I can run 90 and meth up to 15 psi. Then use Race gas for anything higher than that at the track.
  15. Your going to love those Piston sprayers that you installed. While tuning my setup, Zippy has my timing around 20 degrees with no KR at 7-8psi on 90 octane. This is VERY impressive to me. Also, after tearing my old motor down. My diamond pistons were out of round. I am no engine builder, but I am assuming that after 50k miles of being turbo'd the heat was hard on the pistons. So hopefully the sprayers help keep the pistons cooler. That is the point of them! -EDIT I just read through this whole build. This thing should be a rocket! Look forward to seeing it run! I wish I had gone with the bigger heads like you did.
  16. I always use vasoline on the o-ring when I reassemble. Just my advise, it has worked well so far. I have had 4 motors in and out of my truck. And I don't know how many times I have pulled the dipstick with my turbo pipes.

    My turbo build

    Any updates on this?
  18. Looks good! Now come up to Ak and remodel my house for my wife! Lol
  19. Contact Akslowroller. He still has his for sale. If you scroll down you can find his add.
  20. Second on the trunion kit. That's what I did. But replace any rockers that show an signs of wear on the tips.
  21. Here is a short clip of the new motor and turbo setup. Zippy is working on getting it dialed in a little better! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyDjTz0nTO8 And here is short first drive clip. I was a little excited but it shows kinda how loud it is. IT is STUPID loud with no exhaust. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amghNjSzh-s
  22. I just got to tell you! This is an incredible and timely build! I know the kinda time it takes to do all the things that you are doing! Good job on this build. I am now wishing I had done everything I have done to my SSS into a Std Cab NBS. Good job so far on your Truck!!
  23. I actually drove the truck up to sourdough on Friday night. Feels pretty good so far! Finally some real progress. Poor truck didn't know what to do outside. It has been in the shop for two years!
