  2. I want to say from what I have found its the head unit usually that makes the bass and treble really muddy sounding to my ears. With those stock decks you can never really get bass or treble or any clarity to the sound so my suggestion would be to replace the head unit first of all. I know it made a world of difference in my SS by just changing the deck. Also in my regular cab long bed truck I owned for a bit I changed from the AM/FM base radio to the single CD and the sound quality went down when I switched to the single CD so I assume that is also the cause in your 1500HD.
  3. Very nice! That 454 LSX has to look good under the hood and sound even better! Congrats on the new truck!
  4. Pretty crazy that someone could live like that. I'm not sure how many hours I spent on it but I do know it was a couple of weeks of my time to get it back into shape. As far as the original engine, I checked the oil and it was at a good level so I tried to start it but it would start just cranked over sounded like it only was compressing on like 4 cylinders. So I pulled it and sure enough blown head gaskets the worst I have ever seen. He kept running it with the blown gasket on the passenger side and the firing of the engine eat though the aluminum of the head into the coolant passages and out the side. Also it was missing the drivers side o2 sensor so it looks like the plugs on the driver side fouled out since that side had compression. Now that the truck is gone, I messed with the old motor, and pulled the pan and everything looks fine. My friend had an extra 862 head so I cleaned up the pistons and mating surfaces on both sides. Then I stuck some new head gaskets on for the heck of it so one day I'll test start it and see if I can make it run.
  5. I thought you guys would get a kick out of that. I still can't believe I even thought of taking on this project. Bad bowtie, it was a 5.3L truck originally believe it or not that is one of the reasons I decided to fix it. This definitely tops the list of nastiest NBS style truck interior that I've ever seen! I need to post up some of my other projects too, like the 57 Bel Air, I never posted up finished pics of it here.
  6. Now its time for the after rebuild pics. I ended up finding replacement white loaded doors matching for both sides, white used fender, new front bumper, light mounting bracketing, gauge cluster stepper motor rebuild, replacement upgraded factory radio, completely new dash plastics and covers, new nice cloth power seats, windshield, rear view mirror, used white long bed, and rear chrome bumper. Also had to paint the cab corners because there where some minor scratches and dents. Now onto the engine, I found a really nice 2007 5.3 with low miles so I dropped that in, added gas to the bone dry gas tank and she fired up!! Ended up running perfect and driving fine after I added some stock alloys and tires. Somehow the truck went though all of this and only had 130k miles and a clean title which I could not believe. Anyways here's the after pics! The replacement doors came with tinted window too (eventually removed it when I sold it) Also tinted the rear window Inside was very nice for a work truck after I was done, nice seats and power windows and locks. Only strange part was it had the AC delete option factory. Lastly the engine.... Anyways hope you enjoyed my random story, I ended up selling this truck for pretty cheap since I had no use for it but I had my fun with it. Went to a construction company so I'm sure it will be used for a better purpose.
  7. Well you guys won't even believe what this truck I found last summer looked like. I bought this truck for the heck of it sight unseen because it was so ridiculously cheap I couldn't not buy it. All the guy could tell me is that it stopped running about two years prior during the winter and it was an 2004 and he was the original owner and bought it new. So I figured how bad could it be. Wow was I wrong. This is what I was faced with.... First shots of the interior after it was unloaded at my house... Interior Before: After extensive hours of loading out trash and crap and some washing out of the interior with the hose this was the result. ^^^^ Exterior Before: In addition to this the bed was completely sideswiped and had a dog musher box on the back. The guy said he worked for a dog company for a couple years and also drove it to Canada many times, and to the lower 48. Obviously he was not the best driver. The story: From what I can tell the guy lived in and out of the truck for probably 3 or 4 years or maybe more at least up until the motor "stopped running" I can not express how nasty this thing was. Just unbelievable!!! I have never ever ever seen something this bad in my life. Surprisingly enough mechanically the truck was solid other than the engine. What I found was it had a brand new exhaust cross over pipe, cats, and a new driver side manifold. The transmission, axles, frame and steering also all seemed in great shape so I decided to give it a shot on resurrecting the truck from the dead. Next I will post up pics of the finished "Restoration" if you want to even call it that.
  8. I say keep it and rebuild it once again, even if it is salvage title its just a piece of paper if you plan to keep the truck a very long time it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Also looks like it can be repaired pretty easily I've definitely seen worse.
  9. I think someone photoshopped that.... I could be wrong but heres a print screen from Back to the Future 2 it shows they go to OCT 21 2015. LOL Maybe thats from a different part of the movie though I forget.
  10. Looks like a very salvageable project truck to me, just needs a few parts replaced (grill and such), wheels/tires, and a paint job and it would look great. I'm sure the interior is trashed too but with some work you would have a cheap SS if its a legit vin (not a clone).
  11. I'm running 4300k's in my truck and they are the brightest 3five watt hid's I've ever had.
  12. I think it does have some kind of keep cranking feature, my truck has done it a number of times where I've bumped the starter and it kept cranking till it started.
  13. Wow sorry to hear about your truck.... Does look like the top corner of the frame where the bumper mounts is a little tweaked. Did the bed hit the cab? Anyways good luck in your search for a new truck!
  14. Mine went missing as well, got one from SAE as well about a year ago.
  15. Any LQ4 from pretty much 2001 to 2006 Should interchange for a block the sensors are all in the same spots. The only difference I can think of is the head bolt design changed in 2004+ to a different design which is no big deal just get the bolts for the year of engine.
  16. That sounds like a good video lets see it!
  17. Theres a white one up here that I've seen before, its been repainted white. Think it might have used to be red.
  18. Nice find, the new truck looks great! Sounds like you made the right choice to get rid of the high mileage Tahoe for the low mileage nice 1500HD.
  19. Go to Car-part.com select your truck and find a used one at a salvage yard near you. I looked up your truck on there and location and it shows a couple at Carolina salvage for $550.
  20. Wow thats cold I thought the occasional -10 here and there in Anchorage was cold!
  21. I'm curious on what the best method to removing some of the cladding is to. My drivers door piece has been loose since I've owned the truck and I would love to remove it and reinstall it with new double sided tape. I've removed regular Silverado trim with fishing line and a heat gun to remove the double sided tape. I would imagine the SS cladding would be a similar method, just first remove the screws and clips holding it on.
  22. I've bought fenders from the dealership for my friends 06 truck and they weren't too expensive considering they where GM metal vs some cheapo ebay repop version, although those ones on ebay look like a good deal too.
  23. Wait that truck was from Alaska? From the looks of those plates it must have been bought new up here because those series where only around for a couple of years.
