  1. Art I'm not trying to downplay your skill level. Sure there are lots of people who suck at laying CF. Heck there are lots of people who suck at laying fiberglass too. And I am sure there is an equal amount of people who are good at both as well... I know the one picture I posted is no where near your quality... I was just showing this forum that we were not the first to invent CF bowties. Nothing is new or original in the car world these days... Everything has already been done somewhere by someone else... Now with all that being said, make some ss badges to go with those beautiful bowties so I can throw my monies at you
  2. Navy. I am supposed to be on vacation duty here is SC but lately all I've been doing is traveling between here and Norfolk VA and Jacksonville FL escorting prisoners around... We still have to organize a meet!
  3. like I said, for the size we need specific to our trucks, there currently aren't any floating around... But in the car scene, real carbon fiber badges and bowties are nothing new which means it probably wouldn't be too terribly difficult to send off some parts and get our sizes made. With that being said though, I agree, I'd rather give a member here my monies (hence why I want Art to make the SS emblems too) but to think there is only one set of hands skilled enough to lay carbon fiber and have it look good is just plain silly. Hell, if I wasn't active duty military with the most jacked up schedule ever I would tackle such a feat. Playing with CF can't be too much more difficult than making fiberglass parts for race boats (what I did for a couple years prior to protecting all your crazy asses)
  4. Eh not trying to poop on this thread but I have to disagree with your last statement.. for our specific truck size bowtie emblems and as far as this site goes, you are probably right about these being hard to come by, but there are a lot of Chevy brand enthusiasts out there though and real CF bowties are nothing new and go for 65 bucks or so... For me its kind of an all or nothing type of thing and 145 bucks for one piece of the puzzle is too much knowing there are other skilled hands out there creating this stuff for cheaper
  5. if you guys can convince him to do the SS badges too I'd be in whatever the price ends up being... somebody get to convincing!!!!
  6. if we can convince him to do the SS badges as well then I'm in for the whole kit and caboodle. Gotta get the truck re sprayed later this year and all CF emblems would be the boobies.
  7. just like anything else, prepwork is key. I have seen people use DC and have horrible results that chips easily... A good degreasing with a scotchbrite pad and the right mix of hardner/DC makes a world of difference. The tan rifle has been on many many outings with thousands of rounds. That thing has gotten DIRTY, but a quick wipe down and it looks good as new. Next I plan on trying a different product called gunkote. Supposed to actually penetrate the first few layers of metal (think microns) and can be used on everything because it doesn't add any height to the working surfaces. Only problem with gunkote is that it's heat cured unlike the DC which doesnt require baking.
  8. kiss... in interest of seeing you be safe and getting the job done. PM me your address and I will send you the torsion bar unloading tool i have to use, you'd just have to pay the return shipping back to me. Just so you have an idea of what i did with it, I correctly used it to relieve the tension off of (1) set of torsion bars on a 2005 Silverado SS. No air tools... Although......... after reading this thread I am inclined to tape my oxy-acetyene torch to a broom stick effectively putting it further from my beautiful face therefore making the whole cutting process safer HAHA for real though, I'll send ya the tool if you need it... Here's a picture of the one i bought...
  9. This makes me think of that book... Tools and their uses...
  10. So I was doing a little spring cleaning and found a box of parts I had accumulated over the winter. Took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and sprayed everything Duracoat flat OD green and slapped her together. Nothing special... PSA lower/LPK, Ace stock, Hogue grip. Comments welcome
  11. I have one I have only used once because I couldn't find one to rent either. I ended up buying a nice one that you can slip a wrench on to keep it from moving while loading/unloading the bars... 50 bucks and you can have it. Thing still looks brand new. If you're interested, pm me your number and I can send you pics
  12. Yeah that's what i am saying... I'm sure a deal will come along sooner or later... just gotta keep my eyes open for someone who got a set and gets tired of running those wheels...
  13. I know there is a guy in AL that can get his hands on these fairly often but 750 for a set is a little more than I'm willing to pay... anybody else scoop up a set somewhere that decided not to use them?
  14. this got a laugh outta me. figured I'd share. http://charleston.craigslist.org/pts/4441100733.html
  15. Wait, are you guys saying this isn't a good deal?
  16. is that the chevy lean i keep hearing about because of the offset gas tank?
  17. I don't everything chambered in 20mm, but I know we used them to function test the CIWS on our ship. I have a couple laying around somewhere still linked together...
  18. also, TBSS manifolds use 29.9 lb injectors stock, not 34... heads up for everybody buying complete intake swaps...

  19. so i've learned when using LS2 car injectors on a NNBS intake manifold, GREEN bottom o rings are required. thanks FIC for the hook up!

  20. I don't have anything against the clean builds. And at the same time I don't mind poking a little fun at the not so clean builds... Or the guy with the huge 'avalanche ss' stickers across his front and rear windows. What erks me though is the guy who tries to make a quick buck off of 'fellow enthuiasts'. I bought 250 'you suck at parking' business cards not that long ago for like 6 bucks... When did we replace comradery with petty personal gains??
  21. damn 40 bucks for 100 of those things?? how much you making off that stuff STL? somebody should upload these onto that vista website where business cards are 10 bucks for 100....
  22. Now I need one from 2004 and 2006...
  23. Im still not sure what HERO stands for (maybe its a dealership term) but there is one more listed on ebay right now from the same seller. he seems to have lots of these for various chevy trucks throughout the years...
  24. picked up these "hero cards" off of ebay last week... paid 15 bucks shipped for both... they are roughly 8x11... I think they are pretty cool... I mean not poster cool but I guess this is the next best thing for now... only problem is they are two sided...
