  1. Lol. I love the SSS, but I love my crew cab too. Cant see myself trading a crew for an extended, especially with kids and child seats, those extra few inches are nice.
  2. Yea...most on here have 91/93 tunes. I am a 1 mile from Conoco and 1 mile from Citgo (the refineries), so we have access to lots of different fuels around here, we actually dont have 91 around here...its 87/89/93 everywhere down here. And why the hell isnt my precious Murphy USA on that list? Lol. I actually get gas at Wal Mart or Sams because they are less likely to have water in their tanks (especcialy super, since it typically stays in the underground tanks longer). They sell a ton of gas so the tanks are constantly being drained and refilled....so as long as I dont see the tanker dropping off gas, I always go there, or the 100% unleaded at Conoco.
  3. 11.4 mpg's of 93 octane lol
  4. These are complete sleepers. Low production, cheap, and fast. They actually have a better suspension than the tbss. It was a day late and a dollar short for saab though. I would trade my truck for this in a heartbeat.
  5. I gotcha, i really dont think it will end up being sold, I just wanted to make sure that the car would be able to be titled properly in case it ever did need to be sold, but I really dont think it will get sold. I have read a lot of threads where people get flamed for dropping LS motors in stangs, but truth be told, we love the idea of doing it. I know it can be done, it wont be cheap, but it can be done and I think it will be cool as hell once the bugs get worked out. We might just paint the LS ford blue and put a mid rise intake on it, hide the coils and most people would be none the wiser lol. It makes sense to us to use a proven motor with a huge aftermarket, that is readily available and can handle power. Not shooting for making anything more than 5-600 hp with it, likely supercharged to get it there so should be pretty reliable. But honestly, we are a long way away from dropping powertrains into anything and a lot of research will be done beforehand on integrating and wiring the motor and electronics up. And the main thing is we are shooting for ease of driveability, so it wont go anywhere until it cranks, drives, and rides with all the creature comforts of a new car. It will not be cheap though, you couldnt be more right about that lol, but this will take a long time to build, and it can be done in stages. Right now, the concern is on getting the body squared away, it needs some quarters and floor pan work.
  6. 2500$ for that old motor is good, especially considering the motor and transmissions were basically freebies the guy threw in with the car since we just went up there for the rolling chassis. And with 500$ tied up in machine shop stuff, that is a damn decent profit.
  7. Yea, the coyote would help resale, but it is stupid expensive to mod (1500-1700$ just for cams) and the motors are still much more expensive, and way more difficult than an LS. And with a little over 400 hp, it is not nearly as appealing as spending the same amount of money on an LS motor fully built with all the goodies. Its gonna be set up pro touring style so the market for the car IF it is ever sold is already small, and ford purists are gonna be pissed the second they see that shock towers are cut out, aftermarket suspension front and rear are welded in, and numerous other things have been done to it. Its value as a mustang will suffer but it should have good value as hot rod/road racer by the time it is all said and done. screw the purists. You know what hot rodding is all about, you build them.
  8. Screw the Regency style stuff, if you have to have a dealer upgraded truck, the Callaway is a good looking truck, and will haul ass to boot.
  9. Ok guys, Rebuilding the 351c that was in the fastback, dropped it off at the machine shop today. It was done about 15 years ago, and never ran, so it needed cleaning and needed to be rehoned. They are going to re-ring it and change the rod bearing and main bearings as well as take the heads down and check all the valves and lap them. They are replacing rockers and fulcrums. Turns out when it was rebuilt, they replaced the oil pump, water cooler, and the cam, lifters, and timing set. They are gonna mic and polish the crank. This is a 351c 4v with closed chambered heads. Want to sell it since this is gonna be a "bastardized" 68 GT fastback (LS powered). Going to sell it with Edelbrock 351 Torker intake manifold, a flexplate, and harmonic balancer. Gonna paint it and throw the beat up longtubes back on it to keep the exhaust ports closed off. It will have all new gaskets and oil pan bolts. This a pretty rare motor, so how much do you think it could bring? I know its a Ford motor, but I am sure someone on here has some insight into the hotrod motor market. It wont have a distributor or carburator, but those are things that people would want to choose themselves. The cam is a comp cam 270h, 224/224, so should make the new owner happy as it makes power from 1k to 7k rpms. Not trying to sell it here, just looking for advice on what to ask for it. Saw one on ebay with 10k miles on a rebuild, same deal, no accessories except for an intake manifold and they are asking 2500 for it. Also have a small block c6 tranny and a world class t5 that could be sold with it.
  10. Yeah, they are tubes, but I would think that they would be a better option. They would fit perfectly around the tubing, and with small crimp style hose clamps on each end to secure them it would make for a nice clean install. It would be worth it to disconnect the lines for a short time to run them over the tubing.
  11. Supercharge it. 6.0 in rcsb is awesome but you are not gonna get great gas mileage with it. You would most likely end up with worse than you have right now. The supercharger will make your truck loads of fun and if you can keep your foot out of it you might get a few extra mpg's. And you arent limited down the road to making more power. It may not be cheap but you technically can stroke a 4.8 to a 5.7 so there is that option later down the road. Whats nice is that you can roll like that and when you stroke it you will be rebuilding the motor so you end up with a basically new iron LS1 with a supercharger. Win win. Blown ls1 in a rcsb will make for a fun rcsb. Now that I said that, 6.0 rcsb's are bad ass. My neighbor and his son each have one. The dad has a ls2 rcsb and his son has a lq9 rcsb. They are both stupid fast n/a.
  12. Orion cooker....google it...amazing
  13. Drive my vmax pretty much daily, or my wifes 2012 Maxima. Depends on if the kids are with me and if they are whichever has the car seats in them lol. Might put 6 or 7k miles a year between the two.
  14. Thanks bud...caught a wild hair about 830 and decided to tear the 351 down...by 1145 everything was stripped off the block and all the tools were put up lol...wrapped the cam and crank in trash bags covered the crank in grease and the cam in oil cuz i dont know when we'll get around to putting it back together. First time breaking into a Ford engine so it was pretty cool..thing hasnt had oil in it in years so it was sticky as hell and dirty too. Gotta go get some more ziplocks tommorrow so i can wrap up the pistons.
  15. Well we got the car last weekend, its definately rough, but a great project either way. Sold a jetski that hadnt been ridden in two years and went on a tool shopping spree so that was fun. Got the 351c 4v on an engine stand, trying to figure out if we are gonna rebuild it for performance and sell it or just do a standard rebuild and sell it. Gonna rebuild the c4 transmission too and sell it. Here are a few pictures. Gonna be weird working on an old 351 Cleveland Ford motor when I am so used to fuel injected sbc motors Fenders are good but the rear quarters look like a third grader did the work lol, just gonna order new ones
  16. I agree with this...When I did my headers I said to bell with cats...love it but the fuel smell is definitely stronger especially on cold starts.
  17. Any engineering field is good. I work in the chemical industry as a production operator, and the engineers in our area do pretty good, somewhere in the 65-100k a year. Most of the petrochem, chem, and power plant operations industry has resorted to hiring people with an associates in process technology. I got lucky and moved up in the plant I work in. The majority of our lead and b operators are all making over 100k a year and actually making more than the engineers. We are one of the lower paid plants in our area. Most operators in this area are starting out at around 30 an hour and climb significantly with each promotion. I am in Louisiana, but if you were to relocate to the Houston area, you could find a job with one of the refineries there. Great money opportunity, but if I had my choice of job in a plant setting I would get an associates in Instrumentation, they make anywhere from 35$ an hour to well over 40$, are in high demand, and typically work lots of overtime.
  18. Talked to the title place down the road....they said that I would have to have unaltered bills of sale from each purchase, and an affidavit of fact from the original title holder because he scratched out his name in one of the boxes because he had signed the wrong box at first. I figured we were screwed, but I actually found the original title holder on google and called him up and he is gonna send a verification of identity notarized to us as well as an affidavit of correction for the mostake on the title, i drafted up new bills of sale for all the transactions, and sent him one of those to sign as well. We mailed it overnight to him today with money for a notary and to overnight it back. We will still have to go to Conroe Tx to get with the first buyer to get a copy of his DL and to let him sign the original bill of sale when we get it back from the original owner, then we have to get the two subsequent purchasers to give copies of DL and sign bills of sale for each sell and purchase. Talk about a hell of a lot of work, but owning the car with no hitches is the most important thing. Here are a few pics of the car as it sits, going to pick it up Saturday.
  19. Found the car, comes with a 351 cleveland motor and five speed stick, not getting used, but cool none the less, oh yea, and a complimentary 89 5.0 GT to source the rear end and other little knick knacks. Think I am gonna take the foxbody for all the work I have been putting into getting this damn car. The fastback had been sold twice since the title had transferred the first time. The guy that bought it, signed the title but never ordered his own, when he sold it, he just gave the next guy the title and handwrite a little bill of sale. That guy then sold it to the guy we are gonna buy it from, and once again just handed him the title and did a piss poor bill of sale. We were worried about how we would get the damn thing titled. I had the guy text me a pic of the title, googled the guy that had forgot to order a title when ownership was transferred to him, got lucky and found his home number and said what the hell, i called him up. Left a message and got a call back about thirty minutes, good old texas guy! He bought the car 19 years ago when he left the military, it felt cool to hear him go down memory lane talking about how that thing had a hole in the hood for the blower to fit through lol. Awesomeness!! Anyways, he said he has no problems transferring the title over if we buy the car from the old man selling it. Best of all, the car is only 2 hours away so we can take two trips to get the 68 and the 89. And all in a morning and afternoon. The guy that will sign the title over is only about 2 hours away too in Conroe. Completely lucked out. Got everything, including the original trim and interior and under dash ac motor/trans and complete 89 gt for 10k. We were outbid on 2 different cars that were just rolling chassis today. They kept going over 10k, and then bam, a complete original car and the luck to find the guy on the title to sign it over to us. Fate was on our side today! Cant wait to roll it in the shop and start taking pictures and writing a checklist on a big dry erase board lol. Just for the curious:http://www.cars-on-line.com/65074.html
  20. So my best friend and I are planning a really cool and fun project. The idea is to build a dream car, learn a lot in the process, and piss off the Ford fans around the country. We are looking for a 67 or 68 fastback roller. We have bid on a few, been outbid, and gonna try our luck on last second bidding on the one we are watching now. It's gonna be a pro touring car. We have found a company that builds chassis to set the uni body on so it should be much more rigid not having a motor and suspension bolted to sheet metal. Found an Eleanor body kit for 4k and a really cool Modern style Shelby hood(can't stand the Eleanor hood). Oh and for the pissing folks off part: LS 2 T56 combo will be pushing it around. The company that makes the chassis is going to let us ship the motor and trans to them from whomever we buy it from, they will even store it if we find a good deal before we are ready to get the chassis, so that they can mock it all up and mount the mounts and cross member in the right spots. This is going to be a blast!
