  1. I don't think this is the same thing... I've heard of high temp baking of already dried parts to help harden the finish, which will help prevent some swirls & marring, but in no way will aid in cleaning or protection from surface contamination, oxidation, etching, etc.
  2. I'm still a maybe... tbss front end needs some love, so maybe I'll make this drive BEFORE doing any fixes rather than after.
  3. The key of course is to correct the problem before laying down a protective coat. Nicks and cracks aren't gonna be corrected by polishing, that sounds more like defects in the chroming process. Personally I've had excellent results w/ Mothers Power Polish & the Powerball. As was recommended above after the problems are corrected lay down a coat of Rejex to keep them sealed. EDIT: after reading your post again, you mentioned your SS wheels... did you have yours chromed or are the factory finish? If they're factory finish then DO NOT use a metal polish. They are clear coated and you'll mess them up using a metal polish on those.
  4. LMAO... I love the names they come up for this crap... same song and dance, different name. I bet they told you you'd "never need to wax your paint again" too right? Complete and utter BS... the stuff is nothing more than a synthetic sealant, something you could buy and apply on your own for $25-$30 and an hour in the garage. As for the durability don't be fooled. It breaks down just like anything else and leaves your paint exposed. The best sealants I have won't last much more than 4-6 months on a car that sees regular environmental exposure. The false sense of security people have with this shit is laughable. I've had so many cars come to me where the owner is shocked how bad their paint looked b/c "I paid extra for the dealer to put that protective coating on the paint when I bought it" and of course they haven't waxed it in 2 years. Don't waste your money on this scam.
  5. WOW... how did I miss all this?? Honestly, based on reading the meet thread he sounds like a guy with some serious problems, and I'm not referring to his affinity for powdery white substances. I almost half expect to find out that he killed himself after all the truck forums have shunned him. It just seems weird at how desperately he was seeking validation that everyone had a good time and thought he was cool. I will say I'm glad I didn't go and witness him doing something... I wouldn't have even hesitated for a second to call 5-0 down there and end that shit real quick. That garbage has no place in the truck community and I certainly wouldn't have stood for it.
  6. Honestly I have no clue if he details and if he does how much he would charge. I'd assume as the owner of an extremely successful company that sells detailing supplies he doesn't really offer himself up for detail work. BUMP... c'mon guys... free detailing tips... a chance to hang out on a Saturday... whats not to like?
  7. Lemme double check the date... I thought it was Saturday so maybe I fat fingered the date.
  8. Bump... c'mon, where are all the socal peeps?
  9. Not feeling it, but if you like it thats all that matters.
  10. Thats funny b/c I've seen that one a ton too I think. Always stands out b/c you see so few locally that have black accents like that.
  11. STFU!! Matt got married? Isn't this one of the signs of the apocalypse or does that not happen until your first child is spawned?? Just kidding matty boy... congrats and welcome to the club
  12. Adams Polishes is hosting a detail clinic at their Torrance warehouse 5/16 and I figured I'd see how many of you fools were down to go. Edit: I fat fingered the subject... it should be 5/16 Great chance to check out the products, get a demo from the man himself, and just hang out/shoot the breeze. If you are looking to start doing your own detail work this is the ultimate chance to get started as you'll be shown the proper techniques to start caring for your paint the right way. If you're an old pro its also worth going b/c they almost always give away free stuff!! Post up if you're interested and if you're rolling from out my way (inland empire) let me know if you wanna caravan out there. Hope some of you guys can go, should be a good time, maybe we can plan to hit somewhere for lunch afterwards.
  13. Adams has a new product designed specifically for headlight correction: http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2363
  14. soft bristle tooth brush and a little dilluted apc will do the trick. Problem w/ using back to black or similar stuff is that its really only hiding the problem... when it dries out the wax is still there.
  15. Be a nice truck for someone to pick up and do the LQ9 swap into it... or go balls out and swap in an LS7
  16. Yea... I think you're in the blooddrag coverage. Guess I won't be seeing yer SSS for awhile since the new build is underway... LMK in advance when you want it worked on... I got something really special in mind for its next treatment. Hommie hookup as always
  17. Have you tried resetting the memory again?? Make all your adjustments and then hold the position 1 memory button down. If that doesn't work maybe try setting driver 2 to your presets and see if the same thing happens.
  18. I wish they hadn't used "filtering" as a term in that (I didnt' do the writeup BTW) I use the mitt to diffuse the water to a slow flow, it helps sheet the water off of the paint on the final rinse, reduces the chances of water spots and makes drying easier b/c theres less water resting on the paint. You can get the same effect if you use a watering can and pour the water onto each panel at the end, its just easier for me to throw that mf mitt over the end of the hose.
  19. Bump for a great deal... these rims looked great on my SSS
  20. A few weeks back I wake up in the morning to a bunch of text messages from friends and customers: "Hey man... did you know you're in this months Street Trucks Magazine?" I had almost entirely forgotten I had worked with them on a "how to" article months ago. Heres the scanned images... I have to go get this framed for the garage. BTW: My pseudo celebrity status now means theres a 100% increase in my pricing
  21. Sheesh.. the spots are one thing, but OMG those swirls are bad... if thats fresh paint your body shop needs to be retrained on how to buff out a new paint job IMO.
  22. unless they're really severe theres no reason they couldn't be corrected by an experienced detailer with the right tools.... just an FYI.
  23. Start with a good washing. Follow up with a medium to heavy grade claybar. Attack it with a deep cleaning polish like Adams Revive (on a DA polisher if you have one) To prevent future problems lay down a coat of a durable synthetic sealant (Optiseal or Rejex) Finish up with your preferred wax to bring back the shine and a little added protection. LMK if you have questions.
