If you can do dyno that would be ideal. Only thing special I really want its the shift points at tip in at 3000. Im tired of being on the brakes all the time in parking lots and main street cruzes lol (im used to a manual valve boby). Besides, the motor spooling down through tthe corsa sports sounds sweet. I already have a zippy tune, but it needs to be optimized.
Okay. I'll need to get you in pretty early then in order to have time to do Art's testing as well. How early can you make it down?

Justin, got room for one more? I'm gonna try and roll out there with Art on sunday.
Yep, I can do one more on Sunday. Are you wanting to dyno tune it or on the street?

If i would have more warning i still have my old intake laying around somewhere
I THINK I still have mine, but not sure I want to lug it across country just for this.
-
Cant wait to see the end result, not sure if i would switch out my intake or just upgrade for a blower...haha. Are you guys going to do a stock intake pull?? just so we have something to go by as far as what will be gained over stock???
If we have one, I intend to.

I guess what I am saying is that you cannot truly judge whether a CAI is really picking up cold air from the IAT log, because the MAF is so succeptible to heat soak on extended idling - you gotta have a separate "thermometer" inside the air cleaner element itself to judge if the air cleaner is picking up cold air. Now if *both* the thermocouple as well as the IAT report high temps then yeah the CAI kit is failing to pick up fresh air.
From what I see there are a few basic designs of CAI - "headlight breathers," "fender breathers," "bottom breathers," "underhood breathers," and "cowl breathers" - and inside of each group I would expect products to have similar performance (heat wise) i.e. I would expect all headlight breathing CAI kits (K&N and similar) to behave similarly...
Mr. P.
All pulls will be done with similar operating conditions. Headlight will remain in place, dyno temperature probe will be in the same position for each set of runs. Data will be recorded from vehicle IAT after rolling for at one minute at moderate load to get substantial air through the MAF to mitigate heat soak. Power will be spot-checked at various cruise cells as well as recorded at WOT.
-
This may be pin worthy material. If you can save the scans as well, it would be gravy.
Maybe a pull without a filter? I showed gains in that configuration although I was pulling some alot of air.
Did that before with Art's truck. 8hp gain up top over the dry filter he has now.

shouldnt take more than 10 min each swap, but if for any reason its going to mess up your schedual please let me know, i dont want to interupt your tuning sessions
Not a problem, bring it on over. Might have you and Reynaldo working on it while I'm off on the street if need be.
-
Yep. The only problem right now is finding enough time for them all. My Saturday is now full, Friday is mostly full. Sunday AM has some time. How long for each CAI swap?
-
hey justin, im looking to get my truck re-tuned, im totally down to go out there as long as i have a spot and can re-tune it. thx
Looking for dyno or street?
I've got a bit of time on Saturday and Sunday.
-
Im game.....Im stock except for my GMPP CAI...I would like a tune though..
Josh
Prices are $200 for street, $300 for a dyno tune. Lots of time slots available.

Hey Guys,
I'll be out in Temecula doing some dyno tuning (and street as needed) on May 2-4. Anybody interested, let me know. I'll be using a Dyno Dynamics load bearing dyno and fully tuning spark tables, not just WOT. Also, Art (12'SROCK) will be coming by with his truck so we can do some CAI testing.
Thanks,
Justin

Fuel prices are going through the roof, oil companies are setting record profits, all while the small gas shops are being goiung out of business. Supporting my local economy and went E85 this week...
I can't wait for a non-big business president to get into the whitehouse. It's been a loooooooong 8 years... Oh, by the way, did anyone see his, uh, dance... the other day?
Sorry man, but the oil company profit argument is a bullshit one. Sure, their absolute dollar profits are high, that's due to the sheer scale of their business, but their profit margins are slim compared to many many other companies. A 10% margin is not something that the government should step in and stop. Otherwise, we need to get on Microsoft, Google and eBay (to name a few) for having margins above 25%.
I was discussing this topic with a friend yesterday and that prompted me to pull up the historical gasoline and oil prices from the past 18 years. Plotted out, it's clear as day that the price of gas is directly correlated to the price of oil, not some price gouging by the oil companies.
-
It's around 3.79 here in the DC area. As long as the price of crude oil remains high, we'll see high gas prices. The worst part of that is a lot of that price factor is a bunch of institutional investors artificially forcing it up. That and the fear factor. If a sheikh in Saudi Arabia sneezes, some big bank gets scared and bids the price of crude up.

Are you doing any data-logging? Could hear the engine acceleration reduction due to the spark retard shortly after you dropped into 3rd.
-
I'll take it. Email sent as well.
-
Are you guys over-tightening them? Tighten to 90-ft lbs, unless you've got ARP hardware...
Mr. P.
Tire shop overtightened our tahoe's... They even broke one there at the shop. Should have been a hint that they were screwing it up.
-
Yeah, just replace it yourself. Had to do two on my wife's tahoe this week when replacing her rotors and pads. Naturally, I didn't think to engage 4wd and lock the front differential... Was a real pain trying to hold the rotor in place while tightening the lugs down.
$2 per stud at advance auto, dealer offered to replace one for her for $17 + $103 labor (had to go in to get a new instrument cluster).
-
hey Rey would u or .justin. mind me tagging along for the dyno day???
-Rob
This really depends how my schedule looks. I'll be out in Temecula tuning from May 2-4th and hope to be as booked up as possible. I'll have my schedule posted up on GMFullsize.com and z71tahoe-suburban.com
Justin
Edit: But by all means, feel free to come on by, I just am not sure about how much dyno testing time I'll have. If Reynaldo is available, I plan to give him some more time operating the dyno to get that experience.

The fuel level senders reported inversely on the 04+ models when compared to the 03 and older. The bigger concern is the injector flow rate table. Being set up for an 04, the PCMs definition of your injector's flow characteristics is incorrect. Fuel trims are now learning to be high for you at part load and likely carrying into full load, causing you to waste fuel, albeit only a few percentage more than needed.
-
Good Data Reynaldo.
Want to bring them out to the dyno at the end of April?
-
Wow. They claim 22+ft-lbs of torque and show everything in the graph to disprove it!
Check out the air/fuel ratio. The low power pull is running in closed loop by the looks of it, and the high power one is in PE mode.
Peak HP is identical in both as they're both rich at that point.
-
The metal in your headers is quite a bit thinner than the stock manifolds. As a result you do hear a lot more noise through them. Definitely annoyed me the first few times I heard it, but you'll eventually get used to it.
-
I am thinking I need a case relearn to get it started. I will wait till the zippy is in town. He is really working with me to get this fixed.
You have to get it running before you can perform a case relearn.
Does the truck fire and then die, or does it crank and not fire or does it not crank at all?

03 silv SS 6.0 pcm is fried from inproper tuning from hp, we know now what not to do. anyway my question is: is the pcm vehicle specific, or can i go to the junk yard and get a pcm from another chev truck and will it be compatible? If so what needs to be done after its installed as far as writing the tune and so forth. TIA
Any 03-07 classic PCM is compatible with your truck. With EFILive, you'd have no issues, but I'm not sure if HPTuners will allow you to change the VIN and operating system on one though...

I really think the only way we can ensure that the CAI tests get complete is if you can roll up at 9am. I realize that's early, but maybe you can convince Art to get down there at the same time.
