  1. Yeah I was looking at some AZ comps but they aint cheap and I was hoping to find it locally for cheap, possibly used. I bought everything else pretty much 50% off just looking around. Just got a brand new never installed SD 3link 99% bolt on for $300. Keeping the funds down is the game plan. I am trying to make this truck my local DD to and from work and still be able to throw my kx450 in the back and drive to the track or trails.
  2. I bought all new lines, bags, tank, 3link and drop spindles. I am looking at a pair of viair 480's locally and after that I am pretty much set. If I can get a stocker in good shape, I can notch it myself and just put the new stuff on that and be done with it and have a reliable daily, would just have to weld a few brackets, panhard bar and shocks.
  3. To drop the pan the motor has to come out anyhow. I may be going another route though. I sold off a lot of shit so basically the truck is free as it sits, I may sell the rest of it off and keep all the new air ride gear and buy a running s10 that is stock and bag it while it still looks stock. We'll see though, just ideas for now.
  4. With the battery charged back up it fired back up. Now its sqeeking and knocking, geeze. But on the other hand I have it back up on jack stands and was able to get under it better with the stethescope and right at the front bottom pulley it where the main noise is really loud. With this being the crankshaft I'm not sure where I stand. Sounds like a bearing froze up
  5. it might not be all that bad but I am trying to keep the $$$ down as much as possible
  6. Its weird though, right before it shut down on me the knocking went silent and it sounded almost like a bearing froze up somewhere. I put the battery on a charger for now and tried to crank it over and had no luck. I pulled the belt, let the batt charge a little more and it turned over but the battery gave out it seemed. Its a newer battery, only like 2 months old so who knows. Will see what happens in the morning I guess.
  7. pretty sure the motor is done. Put some Mystery oil in it and let it run for a little went to shut it down and before I got to the key it died, won't crank over. The motor will turn for a second then game over. Oh well, maybe a 4.8 motor is in the works.
  8. sounds good, I do have a little more info as well which leads me to think it has to do with the lifters and rockers. I started it up with the valve cover off on the pass side. Only two rockers are pushing oil through. The very front rocker which is cylinder 2 and the rear second most rocker for cylinder 6. Should all of them be flowing? The two that are working are steadily flowing out of the rocker arm holes.
  9. Nothing like a good friend to bring you some speakers, ha. I sure and shit hope I found the problem and its not something else major. The rocker arms have side to side play as where I can easily turn them back and forth a 1/8" or so. I can also tell a few of them arent snug onto the rod.
  10. with hydraulic lifters should there be any movement at the rockers at all? I pulled the valve covers and 4 out of 6 rockers I could wiggle easily side to side while the others were tight. From what i am reading if you have gydraulic lifters they should be all tight with no lash. Can anyone confirm? SSplaytoy, after my comp crashed I can seem to get anything to work right, my ipod doesn't connect, my camcorder isn't being seen and my phone won't connect either so I will keep trying so I can shoot that vid over to you.
  11. P, did he live in one place and have a shop in the other? Laveen and Queen Creek area about 40 miles apart?
  12. I think it username was AZfastestSS
  13. Sorry for not getting back to you ssplaytoy, my comp crashed after the newest firefox update for some reason and I have been trying to get it back to where I had it so I haven't been able to get the vid emailed to you. I planned on pulling the valve covers this weekend but I started a kitchen remodel last week and after majority of it was all done we ran into major issues so I spent all week re-doing a bunch of things. Its been hectic but I should be able to tear into it tomorrow and I will try to shoot you over that vid. You have a cell that accepts VIDS? I could send it that way if you wanted to PM me the #, just a thought.
  14. I always liked the snow, I moved to AZ because it would 15 degrees and windy back in PA with never any real snow. I'll my 70-75 degree weather now though
  15. Dude its cool to welcome someone but damn man, you just replied about 50times all in the same topic to new members, quit post whoring, all I see is your handle at the end of every NEW MEMBER TOPIC. Sorry for the rant but it irks the hell out of me when i see that.
  16. so can anyone else provide input on the noise?
  17. yeah picked up a brand sd 3link locally off some kid for about half of cost. The reverse four on this thing is weak. The bars aren't beefy at all and like you said the welds of the tabs are ass. I want to get it running properly at least for now, I am selling the bed, cover and rims on it now, by the time I am done with it my way I should have less than $1500 in it all together and still have a nice ride to drive to work. Everything is getting pulled and redone, the notch looks like crap, the BOA brackets connected to the notch are upside down so when aired out its still about 4in from the ground if not more. The panhard bar is cast and rusted through and snapped so the whole rear I will be doing myself here and there but it shouldn't be hard or that expensive as long as I search around. Selling the rims on it now and the bed will put me at about even besides the $300 clutch so its a process.
  18. everyones telling me a spun bearing but I have great compression in all cylinders, oil pressure is good, no metal shavings in oil or anything. I never had an exhaust leak but when I had the trans out and fired it up with open headers the noise was there but barely. After putting everything back together the noise got 20x louder. Going to pull off the valve covers and go from there but any ideas on what the noise sounds like is welcome.
  19. lets play a name that tune, who can guess it first.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK6M2KrylMo Oh yeah got everything else for the truck now except the motor situated, got me a 3 link, new rims, drop spindles and some new air management. Motor is my next step.
  20. the SS will go through snow like butter, I had to pull a cop out of 16" of snow the one year back in PA and he couldn't believe I was just mowing though it all. Nice vid
  21. I think mufflex is where I got mine done when I lived back east as well, Ric (dounome) who was a member on here pointed me that direction and it was worth the drive at that time.
  22. I believe when you buy the open home app for 3.99 you are getting the actually software, if you look there are a ton of skins for it that you can download for free. Because of how many screens you will now have the skins must be able to render all screens and fill them in. You will see what I mean if you try to set one of your pics as a background, looks like ass because it blows itself up to fit 3 screens in a sense. Robo defense it sweet, I played that for a while at work last week. I been rockin Pandora at work when the boss isn't around so i can listen to some godsmack cranked up to keep me busy.
  23. well i think I figured it out and I pretty much shit the bed on this one. The recommended tq for the pressure plate bolts are 30lbs, well apparently with the lock washers that are on it I hit the 30lb mark fairly easily and there was still more tightening that is needed. I had my roommate jump in and press the clutch while was underneath and could see the free play the bolts were giving up not being tightened all the way. I can access the bolts from the access holes underneath and got 3 of them so far with a closed end of a wrench. I am not pulling this crap apart again till i know I won't be pulling it all out if the motor is shot. Just doing it by hand now and wrenching them down tight but not overhill. Any ideas how I can get the flywheel to spin easier so I can access the bolts quicker? I would assume I need to pull all the plugs then should be ok but was hoping there was an easier way. :banghead:
