creaker
You are probably going to get many different answers on this one. Do a search here, there's already been a ton of threads about this. As a heads up, Beltronics/Escort just updated their top-o-the-line detectors recently. Bel's is the RX65 and Escort still calls it the Passport 8500 but with X50 tagged on. I've read good things about both of them, but they haven't been out long enough for a thorough review (that I'm aware of). You'll probably notice both detectors look almost the same - it's because they are (some minor differences such as X50 being offered in blue LED & the RX65 has voice warnings). For a laugh, check the street address of both Beltronics & Escort (hint: they are next to each other). The Valentine 1 has a loyal cult following around here as well. Beltronics RX65 http://www.beltronicspro.com/rx65.html Escort Passport 8500 X50 http://www.escortstore.com/x50.htm Valentine 1 http://www.valentine1.com/home.asp RadarTest.com http://www.radartest.com/ ConsumerSearch http://www.consumersearch.com/www/automoti...adar_detectors/ MotorTrend's 2004 Radar Test http://www.motortrend.com/features/consume...112_0402_radar/ SpeedZones http://www.speedzones.com/ SpeedZones seems to give the best review of pure detector range performance and if you look at the results you'll see what I mean - "There is no one detector best at everything." Unfortunately, they don't do any testing of detector falsing, which is a prime concern with those top-end models due to their extreme sensitivity and range of detection. rdss
I have the Solo Passport S2, it is wireless and works great. If a cop is running his radar, I usually get him about a mile in advance. I recommend it. C.K.
TBSS
This is a timely topic for me - got my first ticket in nearly 20 years earlier this month by a CHiP with radar....they didn't used to use radar here, but now they do. To top it off, because it was in excess of 90 mph, there is no eligibility for traffic school...
slimsoftball
I guess I am part of the Valentine 1 cult. I love it
I CORNER
I have not had a ticket since September 1979. I have 4 Valentine 1 Laser/Radar Detectors hard-wired/mounted in each of my 4 vehicles (2004 Silverado SS, 1996 Impala SS, 1994 Z28M6, 2003 Ford Focus ZTS [The Focus will be my daughter's in 8 months]). The oldest V1 is over 10 years old now and has developed somewhat annoying a periodic single beep. However, it still works fine under alert. I started with Escorts, then Passports from Cincinatti Microwave. Then I moved to V1 when the creator of Cincinatti Microwave sold he biz and started Valentine. In my earlier days, I had been know to exceed 145mph on occasions. I have much more controlled over the last decade, but still travel above average speeds (but very safely). SSminneapolis
There is no substitute for Valentine 1!! thats what i got. but some how my dad ended up with it in his car...i'll have to steal that back ASAP...never really use them though. they usually only tell you when it is to later anyways... the valentine 1 has a great sound for laser. almost like you are in the cockpit of a fighter jet and your enemy has you in his sights... deezel
There is no substitute for Valentine 1!! Can it be mounted inconspicuously? See Vince's (vdrumright) install thread above... someone has done the same with a Valentine.
lgetz
You won't go wrong with a V-1.
schklege
Since buying a V-1 six years ago, I haven't even looked at anything else, and won't even consider other makes until they offer the directional arrows and radar counter features of the V-1. No matter what claims are made about early detection range, etc., I find that knowing where the radar is located makes all the difference in the world. IMHO, the V-1's only drawback is its rather homely appearance.

Lee
only drawback is its rather homely RATHER?.........C'mon big guy. I like the V1 too but to say it is "rather" homely is a little like saying that Arizona is "rather" warm in July. Truth is that if you value how your vehicle looks on the inside the V1 should be attached to a small chain and dragged 20 feet behind the truck.
