Let's think about what "SS" means.... Hmmmm....looks like GM will be wasting this badge on yet another poor performance vehicle (wimpala, monte carslo). DrededSS
Well here is a guy after my own heart---MrBBchevyCar looks like it can do some serious damage to the Ford guys!!! There was a Yenko Camaro at the track last night. It was a very clean car and ran pretty well. He seemed to have a worse limited slip rearend than my truck though.... MrBBchevy
This year Sneak Previews takes a look at GMPP's announced ZZ572 due to be released sometime in the near future. GM Performance parts was kind enough to provide us with the specifications to share with everyone. Ok, we've looked. All we can say is it's the stupendous! Not only is it a dream big-block engine, but GM has two versions. One suitable for street/strip and the other one we can't imagine being used for anything but the race track. Be forewarned though, you will need your sunglasses when you take a peek at this beaut. It's BRIGHT red color just might be more then your eyes can handle at first. Gm plans to use the marketing names of ZZ572/620 and ZZ572/720R. I can only assume that the R in ZZ572/720R stands for "Race" and race it will, that's for certain. ======== 572 C.I.D. - 9:1 Compression Crate Engine Technical Information Horsepower……………………………………620 @ 5500 RPM Torque………………………………………………650 Ft. hotrodwest
I joined this group for one reason; promote the production of the SS regular cab as shown by Chevrolet at the SEMA show in November. I would buy one of these pickups as it represents what the SS should be- a performance pickup that can go head to head with Ford's Lightning. Come on Chevrolet, lets get this one into production exactly as it was shown at SEMA. Dave West

I'm 20.....and I was on track to be a lifelong chevy man.......but Ford, here I come. Dred I will continue to post this data until it sinks in: As I read all the entries that everyone has put in the site, one thing rings out, and that is horse power and beating out Ford or Dodge etc. A vehicle is a personal thing and everyone has different requirements and everyone wants something different. I feel that one thing has been overlooked, that is that Chevy SS stands for style as much a muscle. I will give a few examples: 1965 – Chevelle SS the regular production model engine was the 327 with 300 BHP, the L-79 sporting 350 horses, 72,500 sold. 1966 Chevelle SS – 396 getting up there, however the standard engine delivered only 325 bhp. That same year the Chevy II Nova SS had a 327 350 bhp engine. 1967 – Camaro SS had a 350 which had 295 bhp, later in the year a 396 with 375 bhp was made avalable. 1968 the Chevelle SS was 396 with 350 bhp, a special order 375 was available as well. The Nova SS was up to 375 bhp as well. 1996 – Nova SS had a 396 with 375 bhp. 1970 – Chevelle SS had a 454 with either the LS-5 360 bhp or the LS-6 460 bhp. Most were 350 bhp. 1971 – Nova SS 350 with horsepower lowered to 270 (Wow and SS???) 1972 – Camaro SS base 350 listed 200 NET hp , the 396 had 240 net bhp. The Chevell SS had a 307 130 hp (Worse) 1974 – Chevelle SS had a weak 454 and a 350 cu in engines. My point is that over the years the SS has represented STYLE not always HP! In conclusion, 345 hp is not bad for a pickup huh!

In conclusion, 345 hp is not bad for a pickup huh! Correct not bad, BUTin the 60 If you walked into a dealer and asked for a Chevell or a Nova you awould get a base line car, in-line 6 banger....etc... OR you could have gotten a Fully Loaded Chevell or Nova with 289/305 a once again for about $2,000 more or less. NOW if you walked into a dealer and Said you wanted ball's out power they would point you at a SS with sometimes a Rubber floor mat No A\C No Radio Bucket Seats Cowl Hood Gauge Package Lower Rear End Gears Bigger C.I (I.E.350 to a 396\454) Suspention upgrade Painting and Stripes You could notice the differance back than. Now, you can buy a SS emblem on anything and look @ a lower model car and it will look the same. This is what GM has Lost of over the years. I am by far a GM fan, and always will be. One thing I would Like to see is a real monster motor in the new SS like a 8.1 or keep the 6.0 but make some major ponies out of it, not like I can buy in a standard pick up. If Gm plans what they are they will have out in a few years a reg cab rear wheel drive Monster. Or a very base line truck with a monster motor with no A\C or Rubber floor. I will be inline. in the 90's they did just that. The only 2 wheel drive truck you could get with a BB was the SS. That was not a great truck or a SS for that, but it was the only way you could get it. IMHO Don
