So, my AC belt tensioner gave up the ghost some time this winter. It was squeaking whenever it was cold and then one day it went away. I didn't pay much attention. Long story short, I was changing my oil and noticed a belt. It was just dangling there off of the crank pulley. After some investigation, I found it to be the AC belt. The AC compressor spins freely, and the motor is fine obviously. The only culprit I guess is the tensioner. I imagine is seized and threw the belt. I went to the auto parts store and after listening to the guy at the counter preach to me about how "oh your truck is an SS and it deserves nothing less than the entire assymbly etc etc" I bought the tensioner pulley by itself, along with the entire tensioner setup. The pulley by itself is nice sturdy metal with a big sturdy looking bearing. The entire unit I bought looks like a cheap plastic pully and a not so sturdy looking bearing. Once I get in there on saturday I am going to check everything out and see what the real deal is. Do you guys think that i am doing my truck an "injustice" by just replacing the pulley or do I absolutely need to replace the entire assembly?

Back up to the top. I just got finished replacing my antenna. What a PITA that was. I ended up taking the top of the dash off so I could see and use more than 2 fingers to do the work. 1.5 hrs later and it's back to normal! Not that super hard, but it is time consuming. The hardest part was fishing the wire up to the top. I managed to do that with some .095 trimmer line and packaging tape! anyhow, the link actually came in very handy for taking apart the dash.

I have reused mine with no Ill effects. 20K plus miles on mine since I changed the fluid. I think that they are actually on their 3rd retorque. When I took my rear cover off, I had black goop that had to be ground off the cover and the housing. I'd reuse them in a heart beat!

How does one go about doing this? I really would be ok with doing that so long as my reception doesn't suffer. I have a used but perfect condition factory 03 antenna assembly from wire to antenna. Can I crimp an end onto a piece of wire and use on of the 3 bolts from the antenna base to hold the wire in place? The of course connect the free end of the wire to a factory antenna? To be quite honest, I'd like to replace the antenna and make it factory again.

Simple answer. NO My 03 has the digital climate control.

You won't notice a big gain in horsepower. Gains are minimal. Somewhere around 1-2-3 horsepower is all. Nothing noticable. I had the same thing happen. I ran a crow bar through my cats and then had my pcm tune accordingly. Mine got to the stage of causing the misfires. Not fun.

Ray, thank you for that link. It's very confusing however. KC, I may take you up on that. I tried to get behind the glove box and it was a royal mess back there.

They will definately be collector cars. Look at the Chevelle SS, Camaro SS, Impala and Nova SS. They were you average man's car. They were nothing special when new. Sure they were "performance" cars but they were your everyday car. Just like the SS Truck.

Long story shot, I snapped my antenna off at the base. No threads left. I need to replace the base, and cable. Anyone done it? More inportantly, anyone have any detailed pictures? I purchased a replacement off EAD performance from a black 03 SS. it's complete. I just am baffled by all the dash there. How do you get the cover with the hold in it off the cowl. The one that's over top of the antenna base?

Just an FYI, I did my rear brakes today in the snow... and it took me less than 30 minutes from the time the wheels left the ground to the time they were back on the ground.

Do you know why the brake line kit will not fit an SSS? Just curious.

I just picked up some Belltech 6400 drop shackles to level my truck out. I just wanted to see what it may look like.
