  1. Oh yeah I should have noticed that. Sylvania's website lists them as a different part number, but when I receive the bulbs I will slap the white LED's in the DRLs and if I like it I'll order some more for the reverse.
  2. I'm not sure if this site is already known, but I just placed an order from www.v-leds.com. I purchased LED brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights and license plate lights. I wanted to buy DRLs also, but I think I may need to modify one of their other bulbs to make it happen. I went with the more affordable bulbs since times are hard, but they have tons to choose from. They even provide a fitment guide through sylvania so you can be sure you are getting the right part number. As soon as the bulbs arrive and I install them, I will post pics. If anybody has wanted to convert the stock tailight housings to LED, check this site out.
  3. Ok, so I wanted to conduct a little test to see if the j-tube is actually helping me out. I used a temperature probe wire connecting to a multimeter set to read the average temp. I drove around town and hopped on the freeway and then headed home. When I checked the meter it said the average recorded temp. was 116 degrees, the max was 131 degrees and the min. was 94 degrees. Before I do the test without the j-tube, can someone tell me if have the probe too close to the throttle body making the readings high? I have included a few pics to show how I set it up. EDIT: So yesterday I took the truck out again in 100 degree weather. The average temp. reading with the j-tube was 119 degrees and with the j-tube sealed off it was 116 degrees. This was with mostly city driving and 3 mile stretch of highway driving. I still need someone to tell me if my probe sensor position is good or not. Once I get the positioning right I can test city driving and highway driving separately to see if I should install a cut out that I can close while in the city and open on the highway. I can't wait for cold weather to see if the j-tube works better when it's cold out. Please let me know if you guys think I should move the sensor further down the intake tube so I'm not getting high readings from the throttle body temp. Thanks.
  4. Damn. I was hoping they had the single scoop style. I seen an 05 SS with that style hood and it looked okay. Thanks for the link.
  5. Now that is bad ass. Very nice work and the color is perfect. Someday I hope to find me a project 69 camaro. I admire all the hard work it must have taken to get that stepside into the gorgeous condition it is now.

  7. Do you have a part number? Are they going to be functional?
  8. That is weak! I really hope your truck is found and all in one piece. You'd think the thieves couldn't get very far without somebody noticing a Bad Ass Silvy. Do you know how they did it? I have an alarm and a brake lock, but I fear someone with a tow truck stealing my truck. I live up in the Bay, but I'll keep an eye out for your truck because you never know where they'll take it. Good luck and I hope it's found.
  9. Yeah you got me beat on that. I have no actual numbers for IATs. I calibrate medical equipment for a living, so I'll see if I can't rig up one of our temp. testers right at the filter to monitor the temps at different speeds. The SS only gets driven to work one day a week and it is primarily highway driving so I have noticed some gains. The biggest gain I've seen is when accelerating from around 40 mph. I drive on a one lane road called Vasco at the beginning and end of my commute that only has two areas to pass and when I gun it I feel a lot more pull than before. It never fails, but every time I begin to pass, the person I'm passing tries to not let me. The other day it was a new Tundra that was slowing coming up on the red light and he was probably around 35 mph. I was a good 2 truck lengths behind him still going about 40 mph and the light turned green. I could see he could tell I gunned it and he tried to as I was passing him. I let up around 90 mph and I had a good 4 truck lengths on him. I won't make the claim that it worked until I have some actual numbers. If we can get rid of some bills, I would like to do a 408 stroker kit and FI and then I'll get a retune and hop on the dyno with a fan blowing in the j-tube and not blowing and see the difference. If there is a major difference, I wonder if I could some how install a cutout that I could control to open only on the highway.
  10. Please let me know your bottome line price. I had a garage sale today and was going to sell a guy my stock tip for $5, but he wants two. Will you part with one for $20 shipped?
  11. my first silverado (non-ss) my wife and I called black betty, but she says the SS has a boy feel so we just call it the SS. Secretly I call it the black beast or punisher since I have a punisher skull in the rear window. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has to hear shit from their spouse about how much we love our trucks. Last weekend I spent 7 hours detailing the truck and near the end I looked up into the garage and my wife was in the doorway giving me that evil stare. She'll just never understand.
  12. Ok thanks Zippy. That is exactly what happens. As soon as my efans kick on the temp returns to 190. I'm glad I have nothing to worry about.
  13. This is very true. I had done a lot of research before moving ahead with this project. I originally wanted to make it true ram air by sealing the K&N filter in a box, but I realized I would only be forcing hot air into my engine. The way I installed it I believe my engine is sucking the air in from behind the headlight and normal speeds and then I get the benefit of cold air flowing in the j tube at highway speeds. I only notice temps below 190 at highway speeds. I believe I noticed a gain today as I was merging onto the highway behind a Toyota Tundra that had just cut me off with no blinker. I stayed behind him up until 60 mph and then punched it. I feel like I reached 100 mph a little quicker than I did before the j tube, but I'm not too sure. All in all, I'm glad I did the mod and would recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about doing it.
  14. Here are a few pics of my custom j-tube mod. It is comprised of 4 inch diameter tubing, 4 inch rubber couplers and the end piece is a plastic 4 inch diameter circle to a rectangle from the gutter drainage section at Lowe's. All I did was cut a 4 inch hole in the stock metal plate that was under the airbox and welded a 4 inch long piece of tubing to it. I then connected a piece of tubing in the shape of a j to that 4 inch long piece with a 4 inch rubber coupler. Next I connected the end piece to the j tube with another 4 inch rubber coupler. When I mocked it all up I noticed that the wheel would make contact with the tube when turned all the way to the left. I pounded down the area that touched until it cleared completely. After it all looked good I gave it a coat of black paint so it would blend in. On Friday, I left the commuter at home and took the truck out for my 120 mile round trip commute to work and I believe I feel a slight difference. As you can see from one of the pics, there is space to the side of the scoop that allows air to pass and cool the brakes. Do ya'll think I should leave it that way or find a way to force all of the air up in the tube? Let me know what ya'll think.
  15. Did you do anything different a week ago, or this just came out of nowhere? I'm not too worried about it since it's not overheating, but I just feel comfortable seeing 188 degree temps.
  16. As far as I know, my tuner did tune the fans. Should I get him to retune or since the temps aren't high should I just leave it alone.
  17. So I have a 160 T stat installed and recently did a coolant flush. Truck runs great at a solid 190 degrees (around 188 on the highway with new custom j-tube installed), but every once in a while when I'm idling for a few minutes the engine temp will slowly creep up to 200-205 even in a normal 70 degree day. Once I get going again the temp will lower back to 190. I'm wondering if this is normal or if my t stat is failing to open correctly or if I got the coolant/water mixture wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Here are our dogs and our cat Chevy who recently ran away. The brown and white one is Zeus and he is a husky coyote mix. The black and white one is Kaya and she is a husky wolf mix.
  19. Are you anywhere near Roseville? If so, I'd go over to Force Fed Performance and see Keith. They do very good work there.
  20. It was an amazing night. Dan Henderson's knockout of Bisping was one of the cleanest I've seen in a while. I loved how he knew that viscious right hand knocked Bisping out, but he had to shut him up with an even more viscious elbow. I don't think I've ever seen someone catch air, rear their arm as far back as possible and just smash the living hell out of someones face between their elbow and the mat. That was just beautiful. Brock is a force in the UFC, but I don't like how he still acts like he's in the WWE and show boats. Of course it sells tickets and brings in the money, but most UFC fighter have enough class to touch gloves in the beginning and shake their opponents hand at the end. All in all, he beat that ass with ease so he sure is a badass. I was hoping to see the fight that but all that blood on the mat. It looked like someone got murdered, but it must have been one of those local guy fights.
  21. My family and I have been on vacation in Kansas City for the past two weeks and I've seen two red SS's on I-35 and yesterday night and saw one black SS parked on NE 76th avenue in North Kansas City and then another black SS driving on Roe avenue and around 10:45 pm in Mission I believe it is. Just wondering if those trucks belong to any members here and wanted to ask how hard it is to maintain your truck in this climate. Living in Cali, I pretty much just have to wash off dust every once in a while, but I've seen the snow and heavy rains out here and am sure the truck will get very dirty. We are thinking of moving out here as soon as we gain equity on our home in California and hopefully we can afford a home with a nice large garage to keep my baby safe. So to all you Kansas City SS's, another black SS may join you in 4 or 5 years.
  22. That's exactly was I was thinking. When you see a cop just turn the DRL's off. Sorry I didn't notice your red calipers but it looks like we think alike and you're already on the right track. Nice work. I had a P1sc on my LS 4.8 and I honestly feel like it would beat my SS that I traded it for if I hadn't ruined the tranny. Definitely relocate the intake. When I got mine I thought I was missing tubing because I couldn't understand why I paid so much for the kit only to have it suck hot engine air through the intake. I used 4 inch exhaust tubing to fab up an intake back at the stock location I just never got around to powdercoating it. Good luck with modding the intake, you'll definitely be glad you did. Thanks for the bulb info. I'll definitely have to check that out.
  23. That's honestly a nice touch. What if you tied the red theme into the rest of the truck by doing a thin red outline on the bowtie and red calipers? I was actually thinking of going that route since the cops out here in Cali hate tinted tail lights so I have to leave them stock red. Where did you get the bulbs and what part number? A little of topic, but are you running a P1sc or a D1sc? If it is a P1sc, are you satisfied with the power?
