This may explain my situation better
http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/topic/87441-4l80e-pressure-drop-during-1-2-shift-only/
For someone who's supposedly been building transmissions for 35 years, tell me he's changing my trans. to a pre '97, then not tell me a different dipstick goes with the trans, then I fill thinking everything's fine but burn the clutches out because the correct dipstick would have had me put 2 additional quarts to make it full, I think would piss anyone off enough to bash that incompetent F@@@
-
-
-
Both fittings that go into the trans are AN adaptors that just screw in - Chuck from FLT installed them when he built the trans so I don't know if the male threads that screw into the trans are different lengths. Then I used 2 Russell 90's to the -6 hoses as 45's interfered with my headers.

My first 80 I went to Chevy and bought stock 80e trans lines and ran those. This one I'm running -6 AN lines and fittings + eliminated the stock, vertical secondary radiator cooler so it just loops through the 40k, which I had to move down into my bumper grille. Here's a pic just before we installed the Russell 90's. Temps are very cool down there - I'm seeing around 130 degrees cruising down the highway but did get up around 180 yesterday when I got caught in traffic...it was around 80 degrees outside too
-
did you ever try clearing those tap cells? im really curious the end result
Yes I did, no improvement. The clutches are glazed from not having the proper amount of fluid.

These would look right at home on your intros....

Lmao yeah they would or could get personalized RB
You guys are hilarious
I just dropped all the parts off and the SSS is going in this Sat. Hopefully he'll getter done sooner rather than later. I'm dying to hit the track

Best luck with this one Randy. Your due some good luck.
Thanks Johnny, I sure as hell hope so!

All the more reason to get the F out of Dodge lol. When 1 door closes another 1 opens. Florida is nice this time of year. Oh lots of women in Bikini's
:)
Jason's absolutely correct! I lived in Pompano Beach for a year and it was an all out f**k fest, lol...TITTY BAR!!!!!

Sorry to hear that bro. I went through the same thing with my x only we were together 8 years...sometimes it's time to just move on. Cheer up man, this sounds like all the more reason to move down to the lower 48 and score some hot babes with that sweet SSS you have
NOW HURRY UP AND GET THAT THING FINISHED UP!!

Sure doesn't sound like it is all your fault. I would think that the dipstick info is very critical and should have been given to you right at the start of the deal.
That's what I was thinking too....oh well. I've already bought a junkyard trans and a bunch of good parts so hopefully I will get her back on the road in a couple of weeks.
-
Mystery solved - at my own expense of course! Chuck from FLT suggested the pre '97 80e but failed to tell me the dipstick was a different part number. Just came in today from Chevy - a special order.
Note the witness mark I made last weekend after pulling the pan and marking the correct fluid level on my old 80e dipstick

Thanks James, I needed a little assurance that I chose a good rebuild kit! It's good to hear those alto's can withstand some heat too just in case. Since I installed my 40k, my temps stay around 130 cruising down the highway and usually no more than 175 max when it's hot out.
I can't say I'm a fan of the Borg Warner high energy's that were in my 2 FLTs since I roasted the fist set with cool tranny temps and this one is already slipping right out of the box. I really have my fingers crossed I'll get it right this time so I can enjoy my ride instead of having to worry about the trans slipping.

Unsure what's causing the issue, so I bought a new trans that my tech's getting started on rebuilding tomorrow - Modded intermediate drum w/36 element sprag, 34 element overdrive, billet shaft, Coan low planet gears, transgo hd2 and alto red eagle performance rebuild kit w/kolene steels. Just curious if anyone has good or hopefully not bad experience with those alto red eagles??
Here's the rebuild kit I bought off ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191289795885?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
And here's the intermediate drum & sprag: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171631165039?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Take a look at this beauty out of a '95 GMC 2500

I'm pretty sure I wanna do a 150 shot and possibly a 200. GL can't wait myself
w
1. it will hopefully supercool my intake charge and significantly improve my old mp112 heat soak on top of my meth kit that's already installed and #2 the extra kick in HP on top of that from the Nitrous...

righton...a bottle baby!! Can't wait to see that!

Yeah, I'm sure you guys up there have pretty muddy conditions when everything starts to melt.
Next weekend the trans is coming out AGAIN! Yesterday I bought a '96 junkyard 80e which I'm picking up tomorrow, Zippy's sending me a shopping list of rebuild parts, clutches, steels, etc. (hopefully by tomorrow). My tech is pulling out the billet shaft and low planet gears from the FLT, installing them in the junkyard one then rebuilding it from scratch along with a good ol fashioned transgo hd2. Says he'll have it finished up in two weekends. There's just too much proprietary shit going on inside the FLT to attempt a rebuild on it - especially since we don't know for sure what's been causing this issue. This way my guy knows the trans inside and out + I don't have to worry about shipping it off to FLT for a month at a time if there ever is another issue.

Way righteous bro...you'll be on the road soon!
-
Good job RB!!!!!!!!!!!
lol, you know it takes a RB to afford a sweet SSS that runs as good as that! Great kills RB, lol!
-
Is this why the truck sputtered a lil bit at like 4500-5500ish area ... if you get what I'm trying to say lol I heard in the videos 2nd gear toward high rpm it sputtered a slip second ...I hope you figure it out as I'm doing the 80 swap soon
That's the converter locking up your hearing AFTER the 1-2 shift (:42 into the vid)...that's normal. Listen to how the truck sort of "slides" into second gear at :40 when it should have been a crisp clean shift.
-
Wow man, that sounds incredible...great job - I know you've been working on this a long time. Glad to see you're getting everything ironed out just in time for summer!
-
Damn Randy if it's not one thing it's another. Hopefully you can get it fixed up here soon. Sorry to hear the bad news.
No shit, I hope so too but it's not looking very promising right now - no one seems to know exactly what the problem is. What makes it even worse is, the launch is so freekin awesome with those new gears, I'm dying to drive the shit out of it and can't!

Thank you Johnny, the fact that he didn't pick up the phone and apologize is what really makes me mad...mad enough to say things I probably shouldn't have. Everyone makes mistakes, but when you screw up and don't own it, is someone who's severely lacking in the character department, but that just my 3.2 cents
