tayldss replied to NORCAL SS's topic in Events, Gatherings, & Rallys
I'd make the drive but my sister is getting married that weekend... and I'm in the wedding. Hopefully next year?! -
I think there's a switch activated by brake pedal that turns off cruise control... maybe it's outta whack?

Leaking transfer case
tayldss replied to CoolBlueSS's topic in AWD, Differential, & Transmission Tech
Thanks for the post. After changing seals, I ended up finding a hole and replaced the whole transfer case with a rebuilt w/1yr warranty. If it starts leaking anytime soon... I'm gonna flip. But will check that plug! -
intimidator sss 4x4 swap/lift?
tayldss replied to Blazin' 93's topic in AWD, Differential, & Transmission Tech
Might get more help from a 4x4 truck site... notice there's no "off road" section on this forum. Intimidator SSS's are hard to come by... you're lookin at a lot of work. If you're not lookin for speed but 4x4 with SS styling, why not just get a 4x4 and make a clone? You would get more for your truck before you mess with it. Don't give me crap for my "opinion" either - I don't care what you do and I use my SS as it is too- a truck. I'm no help in the how-to part. good luck. -

Confused, leaking NVG149 T/C
tayldss replied to analyte's topic in AWD, Differential, & Transmission Tech
Well, I still have a pretty bad leak from the rear output shaft seal. After a 4 mile drive it's about empty and has sprayed all down the underside of the truck. My yoke looked ok but that was going to be next in the troubleshooting... then if that didn't work they wanted to pull the T/C and rebuild it $$$$. I couldn't justify another lump in labor costs after the seal didn't fix it. Analyte - keep me posted if your yoke does the trick... I might be more willing to jump at it then. My transmission is just as old - I'd be tempted to try and find both new/built transmission and transfer case and be done with it. I don't plan on getting rid of the truck for a very long time. Any recommendations? For now, I elected the cheaper route - bag of oil dry for the puddles and a few quarts of fluid to top it off once a week or so. The fluid leaking after dealer service is sorta clear, almost like new motor oil. I bought GM Part #88861800 Manual Transmission and Transfer Case fluid from the same dealership's parts department that same day using my VIN and that fluid is red. My question now is, am I using the right fluid? Or could the dealership have used the wrong fluid? -

I'd had my drivetrain serviced earlier this week and now my transfer case is leaking too - I'm back sitting at the stealership right now. Rear output shaft seal is puking fluid all over underneath. They're telling me it could just be the seal or the yoke or bearings are bad. "With such high mileage on an older vehicle are you sure you want to fix it or get a new vehicle?" I hate that lazy sales-pitch. I'm ONLY at 198,000mi on an '04 and YES I am keeping the truck and want it fixed. I'm having a new seal installed now. Hope it stops the leak, my DD is on the fritz. I see you've already had your T/c rebuilt and your yoke/seals look good...and you're in a newer model truck... How much do new transfer cases cost if we can't figure out our leaks? (No other issues) I had a wicked vibration and narrowed it to a bad u-joint. Just my 2cents. Sorry I'm more questions and ranting than help,Goodluck! -
that's pretty cool! I've driven portions of route 66 across the country and hope to someday make a trip out of it and drive the whole thing!

x3 same thing happened to me when my alternator went. the computer shuts down the power brakes as it begins to lose power. Think of it has your heart stopping blood to your limbs as it tries to keep the rest alive.

Happens all the time ... I had parked at a Burger King away from everyone, next to a light pole. I was one foot out of the truck and an older guy comes whipping around in a dodge caliber hauling a trailer...turning left... but looking right... and swipes the ass end of my truck ripping the fender off his trailer with my bumper. It would've been even worse without my 2" ball sticking out of the hitch I hate stupid people.

it's not required to upgrade the alternator to do an e-fan upgrade... is it?
-
i've seen this kind of stuff a lot more out in Utah for some reason.. I like the "because we can" idea haha
-
if you're starting at 12mpg BEFORE hauling then you're really getting crap for mileage... get a good tune.
-
Nice! I'd seen a black SS with hand controls/chair lift for sale in northern WI a while back... props to you and those who go through the additional work and expense to DRIVE something other than a hideous minivan! Sure did a number on that CTS... 88mph... did you go back to the future?!

Happy birthday dude! you got me my 100th post haha that's when I got my headers last year DO IT

I took a rental there once, will definitely take my truck if I ever drive down! Fun stuff.
-
I get that a lot too. For some reason it's thought SS=supercharged... and although it SHOULD and that would be AWESOME.. no dice. Someday I'll get me some boost!

I'm over 193,500 miles now and get on average 15-16mpg, 19mpg on long hauls. Just some small leaks, squeeks, and wheel bearings. Truck is solid.
