  1. Where in Illinois are you from?
  2. It happens. A guy came up to me after I got out of the SS in a parking lot and asked me if it was a Chevrolet. I replied, yes...Chevrolet does make super sports. He told me it was too bad I didn't buy a Ford Lightning. When I replied Oh yea, its too bad. A friend and I bought our trucks at the same time, I bought an SS and he bought a Lightning for around the same price. Winter came around and I use my truck daily through the snow and all. He could not use his Lightning and had to buy another beater for the winter. I had some extra cash as well so I Magnacharged my SS and did a few other things. I spend less money than him, kept my DD, is now faster than his Lightning, and in the end he has blown his engine 3 times, and I have blown mine once (because of a methanol accident, not reliability). He told me that Fords still look cooler. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

    Wtf

Why did they say the water pump was "bad?" Is it leaking? Is your truck overheating?
  4. It sucks that you are having a hard time selling it, I've seen it on eBay a few times as well as seen you selling it for quite a while now. To be honest, I think most individuals are looking for a reliable vehicle today, and most not needing a toy they can't quite use everyday. So my opinion, if you stripped it down, transferred parts and/or sold parts, you would have more serious buyers who want a good looking, reliable, luxury truck. That's my opinion. If you are asking 19 for the way it sits now, I don't think you are off price.

    Roll Pan

That goes bye bye! No more ugly looking spare tire hanging down
  6. I wired it to the LG wire coming out of the steering wheel harness.
  7. Well thanks for everyone's opinion, I do intend on 2WD (of course with a step notch). I am not doing a tube chassis and just boxing it for street applications with a step notch and cage. I have considered the LSX but I would like some more torque to get the big old thing moving a little easier. Keeping the interior is still a good possibility. I will have to chop it up pretty good to fit the cage in but it will be progressive. After the chassis is done I will drop the stock body on it and install the cage, thereafter the powertrain. Get it certified and run it a few times to see what times I get to see if I want to go farther at that point in time. (Inevitably I will want to go faster just a matter of when.) I will consider some bracket classes... but thats for when the Camaro gets pieced out or sold. I'll try to keep you all updated
  8. Well not exactly what I was going for haha... I was planning on keeping the body but I was going to strip the truck down for a drag truck. I understand that it will never be as fast as a car but thats not what I'm going for, I want a huge SS pickup truck to make sports cars look silly . But I still want the title of a Silverado SS... when all really I'm keeping is the body and modding the stock frame.
  9. I like the way you think Mr. P. Hopefully we aren't the only two with this in mind.
  10. Its soooooooo easy for a double din. Its not much work at all. Most work is driving to best buy, getting the harness and bracket and driving back home haha. And if you really want to get fancy getting and programming the steering wheel controls.
  11. After some drinkin and thinkin, decided there is virtually nothing new I can do with my CSS, its all been done. But what about the SSS... So I decided on a possible build I will do if I get the money out of the Camaro, but where to draw the line? I had a discussion with another guy in Motorsports Chassis Fabrication with me about the build, mentioning some ideas of getting a clean straight frame off a SSS, boxing it, and step notching it. Start fresh with a narrowed Moser 12 bolt, TH400, and a possibly 632ci BBC (smallest I would go for a big block) with somewhere around 14-71 to 18-71 blower. And I'm sure you get the rest... cage, (probably stick with DOM or maybe chromemoly depending on price)...etc Now he argued that many would no longer find it a Silverado SS anymore... Well I replied a modification doesn't make the car not the car anymore. A supercharged or turbocharged Silverado SS is still a Silverado SS... is it not? Chase, for example, is using an LSX block with twin turbos (if I'm not mistaken) and as far as I know we all consider it a Silverado SS. His arguement was not the frame box, step notch, rear end...etc. It was the engine. He replied the entire difference in the vehicle is "stock style" engine. And maybe it is just me, but I don't understand why a BBC no longer makes the car, and an LSX does. Again, he replied it is the stock style...(If I'm not mistaken he is referring to the LS Series). By all means I am not excluding doing a SBC build but I'm sure you all understand it takes quite a bit of torque to get our trucks moving. IMO the vehicle is no longer the vehicle if its along the lines of a funny car with a stock looking body and nothing else stock. I am interested in building a Silverado SS drag truck and I would like to hear some opinions, if you think the LS Series makes the truck, the body, the chassis, or whatever. Or if you draw the line at all. Thanks
  12. Looks so mean ... I drool every time I see a stock one, and yours is wicked. I definitely envy you for your Camaro.. haha Sig looks good too! Keep it clean
  13. It could be the exhaust or the flexplate! Since automatic transmissions don't have flywheels! haha
  14. Squirt some oil in your cylinders that you are doing the test on. Wet compression tests are the most accurate.
  15. Silverado SSs don't have flywheels. It could very well be your exhaust or flexplate. Just get under there and have someone rev it up and listen to exactly where its coming from
  16. It might take you a while to bleed your rear brakes pneumatically, our trucks are "required" to bleed the brakes with a scan tool to circulate the fluid by turning the valves in the ABS module on and off. I have done it without, and you may very well damage your ABS module, I luckily didn't but it did take me about 30 minutes just to bleed the front and rear.
  17. Haha yes you do need to plug the wiring harness Autometer supplied for you.
  18. Well it says its a standalone, not just a gauge. So if you bought it brand new it should have came with the harness for it. That should plug into your gauge and O2S and you should be alright.
  19. The new O2S should be fairly close to the Upstream O2S. It will not work by itself, it needs harness for the wideband.
  20. Unless you tuned out your O2S you need your stock ones. You need to a weld in a new bung and need a wideband controller, you can't use your factory wiring harness.
  21. Wow! Congratulations! Thats a nice house! I'm green in jealous rage right now! haha
  22. Wild? Drive-ability? Sounds like you need a power adder! I would say if you want it crazy for dirt cheap and got a place to fill a bottle get a small shot of nitrous. Don't go too big because SSs come factory with hypereutectic pistons and they can't take much detonation and nitrous is a good way to blow it up, but its cheap! I would look into N.O.S. NX or Zex kits. If you want to spend a pretty penny and get the power on demand and not need to keep filling it up with a little more reliability try some boost. STS turbo kits have some nice bolt on apps for our trucks that gain up to 200crankhp for pretty cheap. Magnacharger released their TVS not too long ago which has some amazing performance gains and a super easy install almost anyone can do it, and for an AWD SS the launches are insane . With any of those I would suggest a shift kit to increase line pressure of your transmission so you don't burn up your clutch packs, and with that a custom tune from zippy, wheatley, or blackbear. Or you can just go all out and get yourself a 454LSX with a couple 40mm turbos and some juice haha. Maybe a TVS2300 on a 408 stroker? lol Just some ideas to do some research about for what you want.
  23. I couldn't have said it better myself
