Is The 06 Ss And Hd Hood And Grille The Same?
budhayes3 replied to therokie0070's topic in General SS
Actually they are not the same, the 06 hood is a little longer than an 03-05, and will hang over an 05 grille. If you want to use an 06 hood you have to get an 06 grille or it won't line up right. There was a guy on PT.net who tried and it looked funny. You can however swap an 06 HD hood with a regular 06 hood, as they will line up fine (and I believe are actually the same thing). -
I really like the RST spoiler also, there's a guy on Ebay who's selling them color matched to your truck with a 3/36 warranty I believe. It attaches with 3m 2-sided tape though, but the folks who I talked to (there's a thread about it in the GM General section on PT.net), say that the tape holds up great with no problems. I believe that it will work with some tonneau covers also.

I'm a fan of spoilers as long as they aren't too gaudy. The ISS and RST spoilers both look nice to me. Pretty sure that you can use the RST spoiler with a tonneau, depending on the style of tonneau that is.

Here's an old rule of thumb in reference to header primary size: 250-325 CID 1 5/8" 330-415 CID 1 3/4" 415-500 CID 1 7/8" 500-550 CID 2" 550-600 CID 2 1/8" ADD 1/8" for every 50 CID over 600 For every 500 RPM over 6500 go up one primary size If going FI, the larger primaries will benefit instead of being a hinderence. Seems like the GENIII LS engines aren't as confined by these old guidelines though. For instance, I have a 5.3 that is very mild, so according to that list I should be running 1 5/8" primaries on my headers, yet I'm doing just fine with 1 3/4". I didn't gain anything down low though, yet I didn't lose anything. Over 3500 rpm's the headers really seemed to help, and since I plan a 6.0 swap, I didn't want to buy headers twice (not to mention 1 5/8 LS truck headers are hard to come by)

It all depends on the specs of the cam. A cam with larger duration will definitely benefit from a converter, but many have gotten by without one. To optimize the cam's powerband a converter is a must, but if you have to piece work the job, you can get by with a larger cam without a converter, it may just be a little soggy down low. Then when you do finally get a converter, you'll love it that much more!! FWIW, my mild cam in my 5.3 does just fine without a higher stall converter, but a mild converter would definitely help it more. My future LQ9 is going to have a relatively mild Vinci Trucker in it (216/224 .551/.551 115), and I could probably run it without a converter and it would still be fun to drive, but I plan on a 2600 rpm stall verter to get it up to where the torque curve is meatier to get the most out of the cam and still have a mild dd.

You could also check out CircleD if you're concerned about Yank, they have a street series that's about $450, and a few billet offerings also, the cheapest of which being a StageI converter for $725 I believe.

Your time seems pretty right on for your mods, and you still have alot of room for more mods, you haven't even broken into the engine yet. The scan cable tune should definitely help, then I'd be thinking about a cam and some long tube headers. Throw a nice set of p&p heads on there and you've got low 13's no problem

Yea, stripping the bumpers would be a hard long process, might be better off just buying some WT painted bumpers and getting them sprayed or color matched to your truck.

What Is The Loudest Deepest Dirty Exhaust Out There
budhayes3 replied to JohnZ1234's topic in General SS
It all depends on what brand you get and if they're stainless steel or not...mild steel coated PaceSetters are about $500 I believe, whereas stainless steel DynaTechs or ARH's with a catted y-pipe run around $1400 -
Cleaning the throttle body is definitely a periodic maintenance item, I do mine once a year...I should clean my MAF one of these days though. Glad you got it fixed!
-
I agree, most of the CAI's all seem to perform about the same
-
I think the 4.8-5.3 is single 2.75" single in/out, but you're correct, the 6.0 exhaust is totally different, no y-pipe but dual in, single out

Slp loudmouth is supposed to be obnoxiously loud -
I've heard good things about the Belltech Street Performance shocks.

I've been using Mobil1 since my truck's 1st oil change, ran Amsoil for a few thou, then back to Mobil1. They're both good oils, I use either

I don't believe that a TechII is capable of that, I've definitely never heard of it being done.

Whats Your Choice of LT Headers Poll
budhayes3 replied to CaliChevyV8's topic in Bolt On Performance
I've been very happy with my StainlessWorks -
The longblock will swap right in, he can re-use his old harness, pcm, and accessories. He should also use his old flywheel so it will bolt up to his trans w/o problem. Easiest to re-use his old intake, fuel rails, etc. All that he will need done is PCM tuning which can be done by one of the sponsors here like BlackBear or Wheatley

Is the tire wear even, as in both inner and outer edge? If so the wear is from underinflation or lack of rotation. If it's just on one edge of both tires, then you have an alignment problem, worn suspension components, or both.

I liked the old SS's, they were kinda cool, but they only ran 17's from the factory...not quite what you'd expect from a big block SS
-
Wow, that's pretty scary, I hope that Earl's is aware of the problem, that should be a safety recall. I did Russell ss lines on mine about a year ago, but I can't remember what kind of washers it came with...I believe (and hope) that they were copper.

LOL, thanks! To be totally honest, I keep getting bumped off PT.net when I'm at work (downloaded Firefox at home and I don't have any problems), so I started creeping my way over here. Now I'm enjoying myself and visting even when PT.net is working, this place is great I think my post count is going to start rising over here.

This contradicts what PI has on their website...now I'm confused

Another Cam/torque Converter Question.
budhayes3 replied to se_shlock's topic in Engine Tech And Modification
I like the specs on the Vinci Trucker cam (216/224 .551/.551 115) with about a 2600 converter for a daily driven LQ9 that hauls a load. Not too much duration and overlap to move the powerband up where you don't need it, but still enough to give you nice gains over stock. Just my .02 -
Curious as to the benefit of locking it in 3rd at that speed...sounds like it would lock as you're going through the traps (if you run it in the 1/4) (not trying to be an ass, just trying to learn something new )
