  1. I vote no as well, Joe. And I even had my own 1978 Z28 hotrod in high school my father bought me and helped me build. But like others had said, by the time prom came around, I had it out of my system. I agree that even if he would be responsible with it, the stalling issue alone would tell me not to let him take it.
  2. All of the following have onstar and all of them should get better gas mileage and ride better than her old EB Explorer... Certified Buick Enclave CXL - mid $30's for a fully loaded one that MSRP'd near $50k...friends have one and love it, very nice ride. Certified GMC Acadia (much nicer than Traverse) Certified GMC Envoy Denali with 5.3L and AFM...super nice ride and around $20k now. Almost went with one before the G8. Certified Saab 9-7x with 5.3L AFM and AWD. Certified Saab 9-7x AERO AWD with 6.0L 395hp. Have seen them under $30k certified, but they are super rare. Talk her into this one and borrow it all the time. If she must consider the Jeep Grand Cherokee, she should wait a couple months if possible (probably not, needs transportation sooner than later I assume). Jeep is releasing an all-new 2011 Jeep in July I believe, The current JGC gen values will drop like a rock after that point and the body style will age quickly with the redesign.
  3. Great tips Stitches. I'm flying into Philly and driving to AC Sunday morning for a conference. They are putting us up at Bally's for a couple of days. I'll be sure to tell my co-workers about that Italian place.
  4. I might still roll by with the G8 if this gets going.
  5. I'll grab some pics soon, it's been raining the last 24+ hours and the weekend outlook isnt good. Its 100% stock. I will also pick up the GXP diffuser which looks a lot more sporty. MPG's? A lot better than the SS obviously. I was getting 13 average with the SS. I am getting 22-23 on the freeway at 75-80 and 18 around town. My DIC shows an overall average of 19.8. I run 93 in it even though it can take 87 with the stock tune. Some owners have seen 3 tenths improvement at the track just by switching over to 93 from 87.
  6. Well, I finally parted with my SS. After 106k miles and lots of fun, it was time to move on, especially with my changing career and needs. 13mpg just didn't fit the bill any longer. I must have test drove everything out there. I even had a momentary lapse of judgement and "almost" bought a Caliber SRT4. Thank my finace for talking me out of that one. I dont regret letting that one slip through my hands. I came close to pulling a trigger on a CTS V (2005 model), but was hesitating because of known issues with them and the miles on the one I was looking at (64k and they were asking way too much). Test drove SUV's, but those didnt make much sense any more with my fiance having a trailblazer to tow the boat etc. So what did I end up with? Well...two letters sums it up... GT Yeah, I had to some power and fun factor, but needed something somewhat practical. So I got a call this past Monday from the dealership we have bought cars from for years. The used car guy, Jim, has been there for 12 years (thats a miracle in auto sales, but he is good, real good at finding what people want). He told me I had to rush down and look at this car he just took in on trade (its a former Pontiac dealership, now a Buick/GMC). I get there and there it is...a 2009 Panther Black Metallic G8 GT. Price was right, color was right, and a 5 minute test drive told me all I needed to know. Picked it up Wednesday night and although I miss the truck...man is this thing a sweet car. I know its a little slower than my truck, but I don't care, it rides so much better, the handling, it definetly is a "best bang for buck" car. I will always miss the SS and I certainly miss the supercharger and AWD, but the G8 makes it a little less hard to miss. I will be getting a tune for it asap, exhaust, and LT headers, should get me back to the 13.0-13.2 range again.
  7. Heat works, Air works, radio works. Everything wrong was disclosed in original post. LAST CALL WILL BE TRADING IN ON MONDAY FOR $14k AT DEALER. I WILL TAKE $14,500 THIS WEEKEND ONLY, OTHERWISE, YOU CAN SEE IT ON A DEALER LOT FOR $16-17K NEXT WEEK!!!!
  8. My truck is still for sale...but it has over 100k miles. Thanks.
  9. $15k FIRM. I have trade in offers not much lower than that. Get it before some dealer slaps it on their lot for $17k.
  10. Now this one is a deal for the miles... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-Corvette-Z06-Immaculate_W0QQitemZ330425895126QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4ceeeb08d6 Of course though, its take it or leave it with yellow, you either love or hate the color.
  11. I think they will want $65k for that vette with the mods, or more. Reserve not met. A guy I know on the ski patrol picked up a brand new 09 Z06 with 15 miles on it for $60k and also got 0% financing on it. He bought the first week of March. Found it sitting on a dealer lot outside of Cleveland. 07 and 08's are going for mid $40's now.
  12. I also recently changed job titles within the company. I was an Immediate Counselor for credit and housing counseling. I am the new Market Development Specialist for the company now. Fancy title for salesman/road warrior. It will be great to get off the phone and out of the office on a regular basis.
  13. Nice. I was going to ask you how you liked it now that you had it for a while. I'm going to look at a 2004 Limited 4x4 in blue with 70k on it. The guy wants $11k. I'm hoping we dont have too many issues with them. I decided against the caliber SRT4 for a daily driver. Even though its quick, I really need an SUV even though my fiance has one too. I'm also going to pick up an LS1 F-body for around $10-15k as my go fast fix. A good cam selection, headers, tune, and other little items can get those buggers into the low 12's, some even have gone 11's with intake, cam, headers and other minor bolt ons. I'll be getting a manual. When you were thinking of getting a 78-80 vette, I was like "ok", but you realize that the L48's had around 185hp and L82 engine code models had around 225hp. The L82 had the 4bolt main block with forged internals. Your Jeep could beat them stock vs stock...lol. Also, even though they are a vette, they are dog slow and would need tons of cash you would never recoup thrown into them unless you found one already done. I think the LSx cars are the way to go. Heck, NADA on a hard top '99 vette is only $16k now. I might even look at one of those, C5 Z06 look without the price tag (or power, but a cam and intake could change that). And here is a great article about the 78-79 vettes you were considering... http://www.vetteweb.com/features/vemp_0102_1979_chevrolet_corvette/index.html
  14. I believe the man makes the opportunity, not the opportunity makes the man. I personally believe that people who are successful at something, would generally be successful in other areas as well. Its the man behind the piece of paper, hence why we have idiots with college degrees and brilliant businessmen with GED's or HS diplomas. With that being said, trade schools have good opportunities, but like mentioned, you get out of it what you put into it. Here is a great article I think you should read prior to enrolling anywhere so you have a full understanding of how the game works. They will promise you the sun, moon, and stars, but that is their job to do so. Some schools are better than others, but overall, I think many of the trade schools are turn and burn cash cows. http://finance.yahoo.com/college-education/article/109081/in-hard-times-lured-into-trade-school-and-debt My advice would be to get into a dealership or auto parts store at ground level and work your way up. I have an aquaintence/friend that I was on the ski patrol with his father who hated college and quit. He loved performance vehicles though. While we were wrapping up college and looking for $30-40k/yr jobs, he started working the parts counter at a Murrays auto store for like $7/hr. Within 2yrs he was an assistant store manager and then he was afforded an opportunity to work for a dealership as a oil change tech. Keep in mind however, for his success story, there are also people who failed along the same path for various reasons. He then worked his way up to earn several of his ASE certifications over the next couple of years and then moved over to be a service advisor. He continued his high performance passion on the side and grew his skills/knowledge on his own. He was then offered a position with Katech and at 29yrs old, he is the Drector of Aftermarket Operations and drives one real nice C6 Z06. Definition of the American Dream in my opinion. He didnt pay any tuition, but he did pay his dues at lower income levels for a while. Also, dont let my response discourage you from any trade school or chasing any dream, I just want you to be informed of all the pros and cons. I'm still chasing my dream job and hopefully it might just be around the corner for me.
  15. Found a car I want. Need this thing to move. Have a decent trade in offer in place, dont let me trade this in and some dealer charge far more than I'm asking. My price cant be too high compared to what I have seen sell.
  16. The SRT4 gets 22 city and 26-28 highway. It does take premium. I owe on my truck. I would keep it, but at this point, it makes sense to let it go and get something with better fuel economy. I will not drive the SS for work and I dont want to purchase a beater to drive daily and keep the SS. I want something I am comfortable in.
  17. Gorgeous car Jake! If it was a 6spd...we would be making a deal, but the toy has to be manual. Great looking car though.
  18. I'll see if I can find a link, it was in a physical newspaper, not sure if they have online postings with the ads.
  19. I did Joe. Its too small for my taste. The seats are uncomfortable for me. Also, I cant be the versatility of the hatch on the caliber. I know the SS/TC is quicker from the factory, but its just not that practical and finding a 4door is hard as well. Also, I see cobalt SS's everyday whether its the SC or TC version. I never see SRT4 calibers. Super rare. Matter of fact, there are only about half a dozen for sale in southeast michigan right now and I think its just time for something different. There seem to be zero issues with the SRT4's with mild mods also, no blown engines, no breaking trans, no failed differentials, etc. I've heard there are issues with the cobalts not holding up well. Maybe I was misinformed, I dont know. I still might just end up witha Saab 9-3 or Envoy too, but I'm leaning towards the SRT4. They suck out of the hole. Hell, even the 11sec SRT4's only cut a 1.9 60ft, but top end is just sick on them. I'll miss the AWD hole shots of the SS.
  20. Jeremy, there was a nice 1978 Anniversary vette in the papers up here and it didnt need to be restored. It was the silver with a 4spd. I think it was only $7800. To be honest, if you are looking for that generation vette, I would highly recommend finding the silver anniversary edition. Plus, get one that doesnt need much except trans and engine work. Paint and interior gets too time consuming and expensive in my opinion. However, you could end up with an end result like this one...I am a fan of this generation corvette. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-Silver...=item439e714bfb
  21. The gas bill on that boat for an afternoon is more than more than some people make in a week. Badass none the less. My boat does 75mph and I love it. going 75 on the water is like 120 on the road. I couldnt agree more about having that need for speed. I know that when I sell the SS that I will miss it. Thats why I'm looking at the SRT4's. At least I can have a car that can trap in the 110 range with just the stage 1 kit. I was going to get a DD with no power, but even if I got another LSx project, I wont always be driving it. Speed is addictive. It is our competitive nature. Even if I lose, I still enjoy a good race.
  22. I've had the Silverado SS up for sale and I will need a more economical daily driver...I had been looking at SUV's, but I just dont think they will do. My fiance has a trailblazer to tow our boat and I will need something more economical...so... I was looking around for something I could tolerate driving every day. And I found the Caliber SRT4's. Back from test drive. One word = Phenomenal for the price and category. Test drove a 2008 Orange Metallic one. 9k miles on the clock and they want $17900 for it. I am completely surprised as to how well I fit in the front seats. These are the most comfortable seats I have sat in for a compact car. I even fit in the back seat. If I want it, they will install '09 leather seats, heated seats, and sunroof for me for additional cost. I agree, the trans isnt the smoothest 6spd in the world, but its liveable. The ride was great. I hate to say it, I like it better than my LT1 camaro I had. Its just as quick, rides better, more comfortable, more functional, etc. I even like it more than the Grand Prixs. We are working on a deal on it. I actually like the orange better than the black. I'm tired of taking care of black cars. At least with this car and its price point, I could still get a LSx car for flat out performance. Let the flame wars and bashing begin. I've fell off my rocker...
  23. I need a 4 door car/suv for my new position at work which requires long distance travel with mileage reimbursement. I start May 3rd and need this gone before then. Once this truck is sold, I will be in the market for a toy like a LS1 SS or WS6, possibly a GTO also.
