Clocked-in at 10am - Clocked-out at 3:30am. Nothing to it!

Tyler (TXArkitekt) cleaned-up the engine compartment and polished the

exposed aluminum, lookin' just as pretty on the inside as the outside now

Everybody measuring twice - the front passenger frame rail must be refabricated to make room

for the A/C compressor, in Texas building a street machine without A/C is a hanging offense.

We determined that the climate control box needed modification to gain 3/8"

clearance behind the passenger's-side engine head, so out it came.

_DSC0221.jpg

Another tiny detail making a world of difference - the last coil in the driver's-side

coil pack had to be remounted to gain 1/4" room between it and the brake booster.

Plastic surgery :jester: on the climate control box.

_DSC0224.jpg

All-hands for another test-fit - by the end, this engine was in and out of the

engine bay for EIGHT (yes, as in 8) times. I counted.

_DSC0229.jpg

More trimming on the required frame "pocket" for the A/C compressor - we had no

idea that almost the entire height of the frame rail would have to go. Making a "notch"

instead of a "pocket" was not an option, the bottom of the frame has suspension

bolted to it so it had to stay; we just had to keep 'chasing' the clearance until

enough depth had been cut away.

_DSC0233.jpg

The rear bushing eye of the passenger upper control arm gave the passenger

exhaust manifold major heartburn - trimming was required.

_DSC0236.jpg

Dan had an enjoyable time with the BFH and the passenger exhaust manifold,

coaxing a little cooperation so it would clear the freshly-trimmed upper control arm. :smash:

Constructing the pocket in the frame rail for the A/C compressor...

Tyler took one for the team and spent an entire hour grinding slag and doing

the finish metal work.

Fiberglassing the climate control box.

Me: "Don't you need the fan on in here?"

Dan: "F#!@ no man - I love this stuff!"

* Obvious = Tyler's thinning hair. :jester:

* A little less obvious = re-contoured climate control box.

* Not obvious at all - Dan hammering the holy piss out of the firewall seam and

folding it back to make a ton of room over the top of the hellhousing flange.

The BFH got a lot of use and Dan a lot of anger management therapy. :smash:

OK, the 5.3's home for good; time to put the cherry-picker away. Frankly I was

getting sick of the cherry picker.

_DSC0276.jpg

Dan and Tyler installing the intake manifold and dressing the top of the engine;

we were very surprised at the amount of room on the top-side of the engine,

"serviceability" is fair-to-very good, some of the fasteners are easier to access

than on F-bodies, Vettes, GTOs, and even the Silverado in a couple cases. But

we all know the 800-lb gorilla is the exhaust manifolds, it will be the PITA, we're

not even going to think of that until tomorrow...

_DSC0278.jpg

All smiles now that the transmission is going in! :D Or maybe it's just getting loopy

wrenching at 2:30am?

_DSC0281.jpg

How many guys can you cram under a S-dime with a 4L60?! Yes many 'fouls'

were committed, there were more than a couple smelly moments. :wtf:

F'n thing of beauty right here.

_DSC0287.jpg

The 4L60 fits like a dream, easily access the entire bellhousing flange and the rear

mount is only 1" rearward from stock, so the crossmember will be modified and the

front-half of the driveline shortened by the same amount.

_DSC0289.jpg

On the ground - with the 5.3 the S10 now looks mean as hell IMO, everyone loves

how the truck looks, very sinister. Dan estimates that the 5.3L only weighs 20-lbs

more than the original iron 4.3L - handling and ride height will be unafffected;

rear tire wear OTOH is expected to take it in the shorts. :driving:

_DSC0290.jpg

Sick. ...don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me...

_DSC0296.jpg

A quiet moment alone - how can you not love this little truck now?
