  1. I have been researching and only found my question asked, but not answered. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/76-gm-trucks/83-interior/346033-aftermarket-seat-heater-elements-using-factory-harness.html I'm hoping somebody here might have an answer for me. Basically, my stock heated seat elements need to be replaced. From researching online, it seems the aftermarket carbon fiber heater elements are much better and flexible than the factory stuff. Both the factory stuff and aftermarket elements have two wires (positive and negative). So, I'm wondering if I can use the aftermarket elements with the factory wiring and switches. I really don't want to add an addition heated switch just to use the aftermarket stuff. I'll probably just end up ordering new GM ones but I figured I would ask the question.
  2. I recently had to replace my 10 year old battery. I spent countless hours online reading about batteries only to leave myself more confused than when I started and learning more about car batteries than I really wanted to know. The one thing that seemed to come across on everything I read was to avoid Exide batteries and the ones made by Johnson Control are good. So, I decided on a Johnson Control battery. A lot of people recommended the Everstart Maxx (made by Johnson Controls) from Walmart, to include Consumer Reports. I don't normally like to give my money to Walmart but it was midnight, I had a battery that wouldn't start the truck and Walmart was open. Damn convenience of a 24hr store. $100 for a battery and my warranty paid $65 so it only cost me $35 out of pocket. The first thing I did when I got home was to throw the battery on the charger and give it a nice slow trickle charge. I'm not really expecting 10 years out of this battery but it was cheap enough. One thing that really surprised me were the horrible reviews the Optima batteries are getting. Apparently the company has been sold and they now make the batteries in Mexico. They were previously made in the US (Colorado I think) and were a great battery then. It seems now they are making an inferior product and trying to ride on the Optima name from years ago.
  3. Tampa Bay here as well. Welcome. Always liked the Arrival Blue
  4. Just paid the SS off Merry Christmas to myself :)

I would have had mine paid off 4 years ago but my dumbass refinanced it because of credit card debt... But now I am finally under 10k left again...

  5. When were the fluids last changed (cooling system, transmission, front/rear diff, transfer case, power steering, brake)? I'm due for most of mine right now as well.
  6. The number one thing I miss about New England is riding around in a blizzard for no reason other than to drive in the snow in my jeep. This makes me jealous, you can keep this 80 degree year round' climate that never changes. Hopefully one of the two jobs I applied for come through and I'll be moving back home to New England within the year.
  7. Need a part number: 2003 AWD Escalade ESV LQ9/4L65E w/ Stabilitrak. Need a wheel speed sensor and really don't want to join another forum to ask. Apparently there are different sensors for this vehicle.

  8. Anybody have any tips or suggestions on where to mount a rear view camera that looks somewhat factory?

id put in in the factory pumper where the peice is that hides the lock for the spare

  9. Not looking to get rid of mine but I am very happy with it. Shoots pretty good. I got it from Sports Authority for around $200 a few years ago.
  10. Finally bit the bullet and put a new battery in the SS. The factory one was all bowed out and bulging on the sides. Guess it was really time to change.

  11. Loving it on the black, not really sure about the red. I wonder how white would look against the red... There was a VR SS with white racing stripes on here that looked pretty good.
  12. I wouldn't be afraid of something with high miles if you know the history and owner. I am probably going to be buying a 03' Escalade (same drive-train as a SS) from a good friend in a few months. It has 133,000 on it and although it isn't the prettiest thing since it has been a family vehicle with three kids and two dogs, it has been mechanically maintained. Oil changes have always been done. Whenever something breaks, it gets fixed. He just had the A/C and all the suspension (including the air suspension components) replaced. With the miles on it and the battle scars already on it, for $5k, this will be my new DD. Would I just go to a corner used car lot and buy something with no service history with those kind of miles... probably not. If the records were in the glove box then I might take a gamble. As always, you can tell a lot from the condition of the vehicle. Just check it out.
  13. The original battery from 03' is just about gone. Chevy wants $140 for a new battery w/ 700 CCA. Am I better off with something else? I really cant complain with the life of this battery.

Agreed with the Optimas. I'm not impressed. I am a used car tech at a dealership, and every single vehicle that comes in with an Optima, it tests bad. The red top in mine needs to be replaced too. It's about 200 CCAs short.

      90zxdriver

The dealer says 700 CCA is the max amount of any battery they offer. I'm probably going to be moving back to New England within a year and want to make sure the battery can take the winters.

Mine is 800 CCA, 110 RC. 7yr warranty.

  14. Could also be the rear window leaking. I have a buddy w/ an 05' CC 2500HD that just had to have his rear window re-sealed due to the gasket material drying out causing the leak.
  15. I am kind of freaking out and worried right now. The truck has been sitting for about a week. When I started it this afternoon I just happened to be looking out the passenger side mirror and noticed a white puff of smoke from the tail pipe upon start up. After the initial puff at start up, there hasn't been anymore smoke that I have noticed. I just got back from a 4,500 mile road trip and had no issues whatsoever. Oil pressure is about half way on the gauge (40ish psi). I have not noticed the truck leaking or burning any oil nor have I noticed the coolant level dropping. Oil is changed every 5,000 miles and I only run Mobile1 gold cap with a Mobile1 filter. The truck has 92,000 miles on it. I have never had any issue with this truck, especially any issues with the engine. I am obviously going to monitor the fluid levels and exhaust upon start ups extremely close from now on. I live in Florida and the temps have been 85-90 during the day and 75-80 at night. The coldest night he have had within the last week was 68 degrees, so no crazy extreme temperature changes or anything. Am I over reacting or should I be looking for a new truck? What could this potentially be, hopefully nothing catastrophic. I guess the next test would a to run the compression. I know in the colder weather condensation is common but this looked like smoke and it was 86 degrees out.
  16. Thinking about buying an Escalade as a DD/beater to keep the miles off the SS and the dog out of it.

Yeah. Escalade beater. Good friend is about to trade in his 03' ESV Escalade with 130k. He is only expecting to get 5k out of it and doesn't care if the money comes from me or the dealer.

A friend has a 12' Sierra Denali w/ that combo that I have driven several times. Awesome powertrain. This Escalade has the same ol' drivetrain as the SS

  17. Just completed a 4,000+ mile road trip in the SS. Truck ran beautiful the entire time, no issues but he $1,300 in fuel really hurt.

I had considered renting a car but with the cost of a 3 week rental plus gas, it would have been just about what the SS would have burned. Plus, I would much rather drive my truck than a economy car.

No joke, pulled up to a toll booth and the older woman says, "WoW! BEAUTIFUL truck! Is it new?" She couldn't believe it was almost 11yrs old and had almost 100k on it. The truck isn't perfect but it cleans up well.

  18. First road trip in the SS. Florida to Massachusetts and back 3 weeks later. One state down so far!

Made it. No issues whatsoever. Truck ran great. Drove side by side an arrival blue SS in Virginia for about 10 minutes around midnight. Wonder if it was member on here.

  19. I FINALLY got around to ordering a set of articulating headrests for the SS. They came out of a 05 H2. I managed to get the factory H2 covers off and get my SS covers swapped over. It wasn't easy because the H2 headrests were slightly larger than the SS ones, however, I managed to get them on there. Now here is the issue. For some reason, the articulating feature is not working at all on one head rest and will only work on the first two positions on the second one (won't stay in the third position). I took them both apart and they are pretty simple in design, yet, I can't figure them out. Does anybody have any experience with these articulating (tilting) headrests?
  20. I run Mobile1 gold cap with a Mobile1 Corvette filter. I buy them whenever they have a sale at whatever auto part store. It usually always seems to be Auto Zone though. It is usually a 5 qt jug of oil and a free filter for $30 plus an addition 6 qt for these trucks. Somewhere around $40-$45 for a oil change. I change it whenever the DIC says to (approx 5k miles or so). I'll be changing the oil tomorrow come to think of it.
  21. Had the power steering system flushed and the brake fluid flushed/bleed at the dealer using the Tech2. WOW! Rock hard pedal with amazing clamping force. The truck stops effortlessly now. It was expensive (very expensive) but hydroboost and Z06 conversion was worth it!

      90zxdriver

It cost me right around 3k for everything, including Hydroboost

  22. I agree. I did this before I did the Z06 conversion. Night and day difference. Made me wonder if I even needed to do the Z06 brakes but I had already bought the parts. I used the Ebay plate mentioned before. It was $20 and I though it would save me from having to change the pedal out. Nope, still had to change the pedal later but I did run the stock one for a week or two. The little 'key' in the Ebay plate had to be ground down to make it fit the hydro-booster. Looking back, the Ebay plate was not needed but I didn't have to drill me firewall since the Ebay plate lines up with the firewall bolt pattern perfectly. For me, not drilling the firewall was worth the $20 the plate cost. I still think I have some air in the power steering system because every once and awhile the pedal seems to go further down than normal but it isn't consistent.
