  1. Yep, the radio(amp) runs all that stuff including onstar. If I were you, I'd pull the amp out and take it apart and clean the pop off the internals with soap and water, dry it off and stick it back together. But, I'm cheap.
  2. Does the hu still work, if it does and the 2(radio and amp) fuses are good in the fuse box, chances are the amp is dead. The wiring shouldn't be affected by a little pop, other than being sticky.
  3. It's supposedly more eco friendly than the green stuff is what I've heard. I've also heard it's more aluminum friendly, I don't believe that one though.
  4. Very common problem, hear it all the time on gmt, replace the evap vent solenoid and relocate it. Simple google search. Answer. And yes, you're right on as far as location. Don't confuse the canister for the vent valve though, the vent has a big hose that runs from the canister hooked to it along with some wires and usually sits on top of the gas tank.
  5. If it was a type-r, it would be fast. R is always faster-better.
  6. Maybe it's just me but the front fender looks of a lighter color in those pics. Why didn't they just paint the whole side?
  7. You ever get that whole stereo situation sorted out?
  8. Why not, it's his truck, he can do what he pleases with it.
  9. Haha, that argument was three days ago, I have no interest in arguing about that anymore. So take that as a win, that's fine with me.
  10. I like number 3, give some people some help and they'll only want more from you later on. 3. Help someone when they are in trouble and they will remember you when they're in trouble again......so true.
  11. There are three types of bose related programming. None-bose or full output from hu. Bose non-lux or low line outputs to a bose amp that increase when the volume is turned up kinda like rcas on a aftermarket hu. Bose lux or constant low voltage outputs from the hu where the volume is changed only by a signal sent between the radio and amp for the amp to turn up the amplitude or volume. But like I've already told you all factory decks are physically the same (less 6 cd changers and whatnot), it's the programming that makes them what they are. Discussed that here.
  12. You, your na escalade and grand national. That's nice that they're fast but totally beside the point. FYI, that's also bragging when you bring up stuff like that when it has no relation to small displacement blown engines(what we're talking about). And you think I need to grow up? What exactly have I said that didn't make sense? I understand that, but the cost effectiveness of making some engines fast doesn't make sense. And no I don't nor ever will think anything that is fast is cool, that is just straight stupid.
  13. Umm, ok. In case you didn't notice, I'm not the one bragging here, you totally missed my point.
  14. Let's not get carried away now. And a car is a lot lighter than a pickup. And no, putting a turbo on a old iron duke won't make it "haul ass".
  15. Needs bigger brake discs. And the little antenna needs to go.
  16. I don't know how you call that a clone, but it is a nice color matched silverado.
  17. Umm, no that module can only be used with the gm radio and it's proprietary lan system, with a satellite ready aftermarket HU, you will have to buy another module to replace that one.
  18. The xm part of the radio is still in your truck, it's located behind the glovebox. The xm should automatically work when it's plugged in. Keep in mind that you WILL have to take that hu to the dealer to make it work with your vin. All the radios that look like that are physically identical, it's the programming that's make them different. When they program it to your vin it should change all the settings in the radio to work with your pickup even if that radio was previously used in a non-bose(hi HU output) truck.
  19. This one looks cool, but if you want cheaper, you can get one exactly like that but without the cassette.
  20. Does yours have a six cd changer or a tape player, or is it it just the cd player with a blank space where the cassette would go?
  21. Buying another factory deck would be more cost effective, especially for someone that doesn't want to do an all out redo of their sound system. Because with an aftermarket deck there's so many things you have to buy to make it work, especially on a bose, xm, onstar, steering wheel control equipped truck. All those adapters plus a HU will add up to 300 or so, easy. A used stock deck can be had for around 50 bucks, then another 50(give or take) to get it vin matched to your truck.
  22. 03-06 switches run off the gm lan system. However, 99-02 switches are more self contained and easier to wire.
