You should be good to go on all the WOT pulls you want, just monitor your oil level.

I figured, thanks for the reassurance man, don't think I will be doing any pulls I want the truck to last me as long as possible, I am predicting that I am going to be it's last owner, though it's a big stretch considering the truck has 35,000 miles on it currently

The weakest (major) link in your truck is the transmission. But I could say the same even if it was a plain Jane 4.8 Silverado...

    Richard

Yeah I figured that as well, these trucks with a 4L80E would have been a better combo but I know that's strictly for HD's

You're not going to hurt the 6.0.

Nice to know, I knew the Vortecs in general are very good engines that last a long time if taken good care of, maintenance wise, my father has a 97' Silverado that he's had since 02' when it had 43k on it, it now has 172k miles on the odometer and still runs like a dream with no major problems

Lol not really I just wanted to gather wether or not these motors can take a bit of abuse I don't plan on doing that anymore just because but I wanted to know if me having brought it up to that speed a couple of times already did harm..

  3. Hey guys just wanted to gather some input as to how durable are the motors on our trucks.. I find it hard for me not to floor it or get going whenever somebody pulls up next to me on the highway, I raced a ws6 the other day and got beat by half a car i maxed out at 110mph, my basic question is as dumb as it may seem that is it bad to constantly be doing this to the engine? Reaching high speeds, I feel good because i beat someone on occasions but then i feel bad because it's a limited edition truck and i don't usually abuse my engines in my trucks like this...

Well I do have EBC pads and rotors for sale for $50 plus shipping - can't get much cheaper than that.

Baer and Brembo are cheap compared to the Wilwood set I can't afford - $4k an axel!

Lol well Baer has a kit that costs that much I think it's the Extreme 1 or something like that it comes with the 15' rotors and 6 piston calipers, Baer does sell the Eradispeed rotors for 695 for front and 645 for rears I figure that's a start

Added new GM rims wrapped in new Goodyear Eagle Sport tires. Installed new powder coated calipers and ACDelco Professional epoxy coated slotted rotors. Looking quite clean if I say so myself.1e38ecf76f55c0ce110a141a3fa9500c.jpg8c767a47ddf5cddeb28f4e2183a42cfd.jpg

AC Delco makes slotted rotors? lol didn't know, how are they? I'm looking to upgrade my brake system with something else but Baer and Brembo are out of the equation because of not in my budget..

When that many mods are done, usually a tune is done too. A reputable tuner will be able to let you know the state of your tune when they look at the parameters. May need one, may not, may just need "touching-up". If it runs good, shifts good (firm) and the converter doesn't engage and unlock all the time, it's probably been previously tuned.

Yeah runs like a dream  although the previous owner did relay to me that a tune was not done by him since he was the one that had all those mods done, he said he just never got around to it and that a tune would really wake the truck up  I already feel like i'm flying when I mash on the throttle lol

  7. Congrats! I have headers, cold air intake, and throttle body spacer installed from the previous owner and i've been contemplating on wether or not to tune it being that i don't know much about that..

  8. Lmao i raced a ws6 on the freeway yesterday. saw him reving his car so i pulled up to him on the farthest left lane and my pipes screamed at WOT he still beat me but by like half a car, felt good considering that it was 5,000 lbs. against 3.500 lbs. and only .3 more of displacement :jester:

I just talked to the company who does the Lanyards as he doesnt have the equipment to do them where they wont fall apart with use or wear off.

They have a minimum order of 100 to get the price knocked down to $5.00 each for me. Otherwise Ill have to keep looking.

Same goes for the hats to be embroidered. Any color change or change in the design is a additional $25 charge as they have to swap colored thread and start new.

shirts and hoodies can be done as a image or lettering is just pressed and ironed on

The Silverado SS shirts would be a good start i'd be up for one but a universal design like the one you showed as that will provide a t-shirt that's unique to only forum members, I haven't been here for very long like you or some of the other guys but I don't want to see the website die out, we should do it as a means to spread it's name

All year SSS's basically have the fog light harness since the factory isnt going to remove that just for the SS. I did my fog lights with mine. You can buy the fog lights on ebay for nothing, then just have to make your own brackets to hold them and your done. You will have to buy a new cargo switch box with the fog light button.

I have mine that i cant use anymore as I have a blower and the intake is where the one fog light would be. Thats a simple pop out the old one, and plug in the new one and snap the unit back in the dash and your done.

there is a thread about the fog lights and I put up pics of How i mounted mine, and what I used with measurements. Its here somewhere. The whole install to get things perfect took me like 2 hours since i wanted it to be perfect.

Heres the foglight assemblies you need. Do not use the bulbs if they come with them. Mine turned black and broke. Just a heads up.

A link to the thread would very much be appreciated! I'm like you and want things to be perfect lol, Thanks

  11. I have an 04' and I'm wondering the same thing as well, i would like to add fog lights but i haven't checked underneath to see if the wiring is there, is it just 06' specific? only people i've heard that have done that mod have 06' trucks..

You wont be able to tear them off and restick them. They will be destroyed when you remove them.

I was thinking of using a heat gun and then resticking them with an adhesive anyone have any ideas? I need to do this because when I bought the truck it had shorty headers, a throttle body spacer and a cold air intake, the new part only comes with the warning label not the catalyst or belt routing either and I need those stickers to pass smog in California.. anybody have any ideas for the adhesive to use? Any help would be greatly appreciated as to go about this since ive never used a heat gun before

I’ve still got my stock one not in brand new condition but it has all the stickers they came with in 2003 I’ll take a picture next time I get to my Garage and see if your interested I only removed it to install a Carbon Fiber one a member here was making awhile back.

Thanks man I appreciate it though I decided to just buy an oem one for cheaper on ebay and I'm just going to peel the stickers off my original one and stick them back on with superglue or something

  14. I was replacing the manifold cover on my SS and i accidently put my knee on the plastic baffle piece that goes over the radiator.. anybody have a spare one or any idea where i can get a good replacement? Dealer wants $100 for a damn piece of plastic plus 30 bucks for the belt routing sticker  , any help would be appreciated, Thanks

RCA wires are a big thing if they are cheap or run to close to the positive wire. Then you will get that noise. Or worst case it could be the RCA inputs at the amp or the headunit.

Yeah i don't think it's the deck as I've been having this noise with the JVC single din i took out to put the pioneer, probably the RCA wires, getting to the amps is a pain since they're behind the bench seats in the rear, and i don't want to try that hack of cutting the tabs either, only option would be to remove the whole seat to get to them

  16. I am having a static noise coming from what seems like the left side pillar tweeter on the drivers side, when i bought the truck the owner told me that it had JL slash audio amps 300/4 & 500/1 and Arc audio series 12's under the bench seat, and i just installed a pioneer avh-4201 nex head unit with a backup camera. It seems that it does it even more when i go over bumpy roads.. guy who did the stereo installation said it could either be the RCA because it was a cheapie, the crossovers or that something is not connected right in the amp, they're behind the seats hard to get to, or the tweeter itself, any thoughts?
